Lola rennt (1998)
Unstoppable
What a great film, it has you hooked from the first minute to the last. The film is shot in three segments all with alternative endings with each part consisting of Lola running to the aid of her boyfriend. While the running scenes are essentially the same there are subtle changes each time which makes viewing surprisingly addictive. An already energetic film is complimented by a pumping techno soundtrack which fits perfectly. With it's simple plot I suppose you could argue style over content but in reality this is a movie that doesn't need character building or a script to die for. So to sum up, it's basically a love story that asks questions about fate and possible outcomes in life.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Tooooooo long
Problem with this movie is that it's just too long, maybe if it started when Neo goes to see the Oracle it would be 10 out of 10 but unfortunately we get a slog through the innards of Zion and the rest. I can understand what the directors were aiming for but it just tends to drag on until the point of absurdity, namely the 'rave' scene complete with Morpheus' cringingly bad speech. On the other side of the coin though when the movie does speed up it delights as much as the original with the freeway chase in particular one of the most memorable action scenes this year.
Nostradamus (2000)
Oh Dear Lord
Hmmm, started well, like a hybrid of X-Files & First Wave, unfortunately, if the mere notion of Da Vinci's lost time machine is preposterous to you, then the final 'battle' between one man with a pistol and 4 16th century monks armed to the teeth with automatic weapons will seem positively ridiculous equalled only by poor acting, poor script and screenplay, or, in other words, giggle factor 5 captain.
