Spirited (2022)

Rated high out of pure enjoyment

Not perfect but highly entertaining - I could watch Ryan and Will banter all day. Background dancers were amazing and the singing from the leads was decent, particularly Octavia and Ryan. Will struggled with the singing the most and had the most solos but it was easy to give him a pass because he embraces his character so well. The singing is still less annoying than the live singing in Cats. This doesn't have the memorable music of The Greatest Showman but the first big number will stick in your head. Definitely a feel good Christmas movie with an original take on the classic story.

Clever twists make for a surprisingly fun ride
21 July 2021
It's always a crapshoot watching a low budget horror movie, but this one has enough strong writing, production value, and solid twists to make it worth your while. The film uses its budget well, mostly contained in one location. Touches like red walls add to the building tension.

So how far would a couple go that wants a baby? The movie answers that to the extreme, acknowledging the ludicrousness with self-aware touches of humor.

It begins with a slow burn, but when things go off the rails in the third act it's a wild, delightful ride. Definitely recommended for horror fans, but also easily enjoyable for those who favor suspense movies. There is a lot of interesting universe set up to explore here with The Foundation, so I hope a sequel is in the works!

An engaging show with great acting and set design
15 July 2020
I read the book so long ago that I came at the show with zero expectations, I think low reviews because it's not like the book are unfair--it's an adaptation.

Peacock gives you two free episodes and I was hooked by the end of episode 2. Demi Moore is excellent, and I was surprised by how quickly the action got going. Six episodes in and I'm still engaged, it is very reminiscent to a Black Mirror episode, but that's not a bad thing. While the action and suspense lessened, strong acting still carries the show. Henry Lloyd (recognizable from guest roles on Game of Thrones and Doctor Who) plays his role extremely well. Jessica Brown Findlay is also a standout, and it was nice seeing Joseph Morgan in different setting from The Originals. I hope they continue on and expand the universe as they did with The Handmaid's Tale.

I recommend going in without too many preconceptions and enjoy it for what it is, a well made, character driven dystopian sci-fi series.

The end justifies the movie

A very slow burn with a story you feel you've seen 100 times before, but when it finally gets where it's going it has a refreshing twist and decent commentary on elections.

Good idea but I wish you didn't have to wait an hour for the movie to pick up.

Never seen the show, but the movie is stands on its own

The chemistry between Elizabeth Shue and Val Kilmer makes this movie. Super enjoyable and nostalgic watch for me. I find Val's characters endearing, and overall a good mix of romance, action and comedy.

Highly recommend this, smart, funny and truthful.

Aidy Bryant is outstanding in this, it's raw and honest and weirdly empowering as it goes along. Not nearly enough episodes, it feels it's just getting started at the seasons end - I blew threw the six episodes in one sitting.

Terrific well written time travel show
19 December 2018
I can't understand why this show doesn't have the hype of Stranger Things - I guess an 80s theme goes a long way!

This show blends time travel with personal drama really well, weaving between the missions and them coping with present day lives.

Plenty of twists and turns keep each season fresh, and each season is better than the last! Season 3 will knock your socks off, and leave you an emotional wreck - and I mean that as a compliment!

I think all Stargate fans should also give it a go, Brad Wright created this and all the Stargate series' and you'll recognize a ton of actors.

It's also great to see Eric McCormack in another drama role, as fun as it is to have him back as Will.

Amazing cast through and through - special shout out to Patrick Gilmore whose character David is the emotional heart beat and humor of the show.

Watch it and spread the word! We need hype for renewal!

Couldn't stop watching

Yes this is a trashy guilty pleasure show - but it has excellent dark humor, and the relationship twists manage to hit soap opera levels while still making me care. Like others have said it reminds me a bit of drop dead gorgeous - a compliment indeed! As someone who has struggled with weight, I did not find it offensive and didn't think there was any fat shaming - her inner dialogue seemed authentic. Anyway give it a try - the Bobs (Auggie!) make the show! I really hope it makes it to season 2! 8/10

High School Musical 2 (2007 TV Movie)

Lacking the charm of the first one, but still entertaining
18 August 2007
Just like the first one, I found I like them more and more the more times I watch them. They tend to be catchy like that.

The first had a quieter charm about it, more slower songs, and sweet moments. This movie was way more poppy, and full of dancing and choruses to the point that it lost a little of what made the first special. The whole baseball dancing thing was just strange, and didn't really make sense since we have seen Chad dancing lots, even during the song where he is saying he won't dance! That was a low point, as well as the filming of Bet on It, which is a great song, but a little silly to watch.

I thought the scene with Sharpay and Troy singing was a total highlight, particularly Troy's reaction to the whole thing! The opening number was really good too. It was nice seeing them back in the high school, I hope they aren't serious about putting the 3rd movie in a haunted house!

All in all, if you are already a fan, you'll enjoy seeing your characters again, although the focus is mostly on Troy and Sharpay, even more then Gabriella, and the rest of the cast are really extras.

Spare yourself the pain and suffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8 March 2003
This movie was excruciating!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was almost as bad as jeepers creepers, with even less thrills. Ben Affleck has now perfected his most pathetic acting in his history of bad acting. I'm a straight girl, and even I recognize the only redeeming factor in this film is looking at Jennifer Garner. Just watch Alias. This is the worst comic book movie I have ever seen or heard of. Just the memory of Ben trying to convince himself as well as the audience "I'm not the bad guy" makes me shudder. If you throw your 7 bucks down a sewer it will be better spent. 0 stars, 0/10.

For any Guy Richie fan it's a must, or for anyone looking for a fun breathtaking ride that is funny.. and makes you want a BMW. Wonderfully executed, it's a triumph of a short film!!!! Congrats to BMW for getting such talent together and sharing for free! 8/10

Powder Keg (2001)

what a powerful short film, completely unexpected and great
25 September 2001
I was very surprised after watching the other films from the BMWs films "The Hire", because although all were clever and entertaining, none had the emotional power of this one. Guy Richie's was great but in a humorous way, and more as an homage to BMW's cars.... Powder Keg was about as deep and attaching and emotional and real as you can get in a 7 min film.

Shot in a documentary style way in 16mm, it's a great look at the genius of an upcoming director. 8-1/2 /10

Entertaining movie, but with a terrible ending!
1 August 2001
Warning: Spoilers
Although the I didn't find the sets or general art direction of the film as fantastic and mind boggling as most of Tim Burton's films, the make-up and action alone was enough to keep you entertained. The sets were enjoyable and even the dialogue was survivable. **Very Light Spoilers** If you can set your frame of mind for utter fantasy, including how high apes can leap, their mortal fear of water, and their completely superior strength(when it serves the movies purpose), you can enjoy the film. The ending of the film was the true blight on the movie, which made us leave the theater groaning. My advice is to leave the movie 5 minutes to the end, and you won't miss anything and will feel much better about the movie. Up until the end they presented explanations/scientific facts to make the realm of the movie believable. then they tacked on an ending that didn't make any sense at all, as it was completely impossible even in the world of the movie. I'm a big Tim Burton fan, but this ending leaves a bad taste in your mouth. It was good up til then Burton, what were you thinking?? 6/10

an arnold disappointment
19 December 2000
Well, I have to say that this is not one of Arnold's better action flicks. I found "Jingle All The Way " to be more entertaining and believable then this one! In a slightly futuristic setting thats not all that impressive, the action and acting don't add up to much more then a B film with sorry attempted humor and unconvincing fight scenes. Fancy editing cuts don't seem to serve much purpose, and the premise of the plot as well as all of the characters besides Arnolds and the main bad guy could have used developing. The very cheesy or sappy ending made the whole thing even worse, so as both an action movie or sci-fi, it's one to wait on til it's off the new release shelf. 4.
