Very uneven film
15 November 2001
The now out-dated expermental look of this film often detracts from the subject, and it was no wonder that this style in which it was filmed didn't stay around longer.

Forgiving that, it must be said that this film is almost entirely ficticious. It has almost no claims on reality besides some of the murders and the character names. Many of the plot points are made up entirely, or distorted by untruths and rumors.

But, Tony Curtis' protrayal of De Salvo is inspired, and he carries an uncanny likeness to the actual man. Unfortunately everyone else's role in the film feels stiff and unmemorable. But some of the mistakes regarding the characters themselves (most notably De Salvo himself) and their roles in the investigation are unforgivable and misleading, chalked up to a movie that sacrifices the real story for no palatable reason.

On the whole, a severe disappointment and a text book case of "Hollywoodising" a serious moment in history.

Completely disappointing and boring
17 January 2001
I have watched kung-fu adventures from a very young age. I have seen the flying, punching, kicking, blocking before. I saw the trailers before going to see this film. I am a cultured person and enjoy Good Movies. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.

Being a film student, I must say this movie smacks of cliche. There was no emotional drama, no entertaining characters. I was excited to see this film, and I suppose my feelings toward it are a summation of how far I was let down. That is to say... It completely SUCKED.

Although, as far as meaningless pieces of tripe go, Crouching Tiger was not the worst. The action sequences were well played, although the flying was very cheesy. Admittedly it is apart of the genre's tradition, but that doesn't make it good. It was like watching a boring episode of a fantasy television soap opera for 2 hours.

On all levels it was pretty much lame. Characters are forgettable or even hateful, for instance Jade Fox or her protege. Scenery is nice, though the cinematography was dull and gray. Action was iffy, split between great sequences to annoying flying and slow motion. Speaking of action, there is almost none! There is minute upon minute of bad conversation, were nothing is happening and I'm squirming in my seat thinking how much money I blew, waiting for the next action scene. This is no way to feel upon viewing a movie everyone is hailing "epic". Don't believe any of these people that tell you different. This movie is a waste of film. There is nothing in this movie that I can't see by watching a kung-fu soap opera on a late-night asian channel. And I have no desire for either.

Beastie Boys: Sabotage (1994 Music Video)
10/10
Hands Down, the best Music Video till the end of time.

What can be said. To see is to believe. Without viewing this modern day masterpiece of short-subject film making, it is hard to describe the energy and invocation of sheer hilarity that this video portrays.

A straight up, in-your-face farce on the 1970's cop sitcoms, rockets its way through your TV with the electrifying Beastie Boys hamming it up on the screen and rocking out on the soundtrack.

Socking it to the man as they tounge and cheek their comedy chompers around a nice fat donut, the Beasties "Starsky and Hutch"-it so hard you'll want to apply a fake mustache and bust some heads.

Likewise, Spike Jonez (director of critically acclaimed "Being John Malkovich") stupifies us with his stunning camera work, blending mood altering hand-held mastery with kung-fu action shots that contain such artistry it should be illegal. To say Jonez's style mixed with the Beastie Boys' lyrical stylings is the understatement of the century. Simply put, Sabotage is the pinnacle of Music in Motion.
