Busses Roar (1942)
Good example of Axis stereotypes in wartime
This is a most enjoyable movie, catching the spirit of the enemy as depicted by Hollywood in early WWII. Such a movie would be "politically incorrect" these days, as would "Outrages of the Orient" which I recently purchased. I remembered it from childhood, but found it now to be trashy compared to "Buses Roar".
Traffic (2000)
It's always better to be pleasantly surprised, than painfully disappointed
I really looked forward to this movie after hearing the "best picture" hoopla. When you go expecting alot it frequently doesn't deliver, and that's the case here.
Frankly I felt like I was in a 2 hour patronizing AA meeting. Based on the laughter and catcalls from some in the audience I felt this film might promote more drug abuse among those so disposed.
The acting was sincere. Catherine Zeta-Jones looked very good. (Did she have a subsequent nose job?)
But the story line was so predictable for me, and what was meant by the grainy Mexican footage? Was that Anscochrome shot in an Instamatic?
