Spolier alerts lol
The sick and twisted Nick Cavanaugh (Julian Sands) is a professional surgeon who is unable accept the fact that Helena (Sherilyn Fenn) has moved on from a previous affair that they had. After Helena had a horrific car accident, Nick decided to amputate Helena's limbs and hold her captive in his aesthetically pleasing mansion so she wouldn't leave him ever again.
If you thought Anakin losing his arm in Star Wars was shocking! You haven't seen anything like this!
Despite the amount of backlash this film received due to the storyline and the infamous Kim Basinger bankrupt drama, I think this movie is a sick and twisted masterpiece of 1993 and I'm glad Kim Basinger dropped out because I know she wouldn't have been able to look as good as Sherilyn Fenn without limbs!
Anyway, I must confess that LOVE movies containing sick weirdos who have an unhealthy obsession. Julian Sands' perverted character Nick Cavanaugh has all of that! Before the movie ended, I thought he was going to get some kind of mental help as cutting off arms and legs is not okay! But then, the movie pulled the "its just a dream card" which I thought was a great idea as I didn't want the movie to end with sawing Helena's head off and I was wondering how Nick can keep Helena looking so good! Like he would have had to take her to the toilet, and do toilet business , feed her, groom her, keep up her hydrolytes! That would have been too silly!
The way Nick says "HELENA" is classic and Helena's constant screaming automatically touches the audience with disturbance. This film deserves a ton of credit for its originality. The creation of this film started controversy but I think its sick and twisted that Jennifer Chambers Lynch decided to follow her daddy's footsteps with creating something that the world has never seen before.
Fun fact about me: I love anything that contains raspberries and this film received a couple of raspberry awards that are looked upon as bad. But like I said, I love my raspberries!! XD
Overall, this film is a sick and twisted masterpiece of '93 and Julian Sands and Sherilyn Fenn kill their starring roles. Highly recommended to anyone that loves to be traumatized and freaked out by creepy surgeons!
Have a lovely day xxx.
