I just hope this inspires ppl to read Poe
9 November 2023
Fun series. It wasn't really scary but there were quite a few jump scenes. The actors did a good job. Mark Hammil was my favorite. I could recognize many references to Edgar Allen Poe's stories but I feel I need to go back and read his stories again now. I loved the direct quotes. I also thought it was very much in the vein how it was all wrapped up. There are consequences to our actions and our words have weight. I kept waiting for some of the siblings to get it on but it seems the title of the series was the least in tune with the original works. If you've read the work The Fall of the House of Usher, you know incest played a part but there was none of that. That's probably for the better. Modern viewers might not like that aspect. All in all, an amusing and interesting take that hopefully inspires people to go read some Poe.

Classic noir (true) crime vibes

Warning: Spoilers
But not really that dark. I felt it was a touch long and a bit unfinished but, all in all, a good movie with a decent cast.

I think Toro needs to help his support bounce a bit more. He can hold a scene and boy does he, but I felt I wanted a connection between his costars. Perhaps, there were too many which kept his interactions thin, idk.

Overall, I liked it. And I did kinda guess the plot early but it's still a rewarding movie in its delivery of our early diagnosis.

I thought I was done writing. However, I have to write more words for this review to be accepted. Maybe the movie was like my post; perfect and a little short. So, too much was added to be filler.

Bill Nighy's master class

What a film!

It's a window into another world at just the right time. Nighy was incredible; possibly his best work. The story was strangely upbeat and hopeful despite the fact that it's about a man's death.

I really loved the opening scene and sort of wish the whole film had been filmed on that old stock. (I miss the look of old movies, the new digital is heartless).

The story moves along cleanly and never feels unnecessary. There are a few great transitions but they don't overdo. It's artistic but not artsy and self-indulgent.

Actually the whole movie seems to portray something about that style of British life that is quite the opposite of modern times where everyone is focused on themselves and how special and different they are.

It's just a great movie and will outlast most modern movies bc it has a heart and a gorgeous story that is conveyed by stellar performances throughout.

Well done.

and now we have to wait

Warning: Spoilers
Not a cliffhanger, but cliffhangers.

First of all, Spencer HURRY UP! I have really enjoyed Spencer's journey so far and was really moved by the emotional change we've seen in his character. His story now has multiple questions to be answered. I did expect some mafia situation to play out but...

Watching Jacob realize his power is fleeting has also been well acted by the GOAT Ford.

I'm so nervous about Teonna and her dad. I really want them to get away from all the abuse. On that storyline, Marshal Kent is awesome. I think we'll see him be a multifaceted character who has enough wisdom to put Father Renaud in his place.

Lots of other great mentions; Whitfield is pure evil, Cara continues to ooze female power in a "man's world", Arthur got what he deserved, I'm so worried for Alice and the family,..

just a great show with a stellar season finale.

almost...

The same vibe but not the quality of the original yet. What i fear is that the sitcom format has lost its appeal and so the show is getting lukewarm reviews.

I've had many lol moments and really enjoy the cast. It does have the same feel as the original but perhaps can't be as edgy in today's overly politically correct environment.

I hope it gets a few seasons and has a chance to build the characters and story lines. Dan feels strange as a moral compass knowing how much of a womanizer he was. Gurgs is hilarious and is one of my new favorite characters. Olivia and Abby still need to be explored as characters. I want to like Neil but he just doesn't have anything interesting to care about yet.

It would be pretty cool if they could revisit old minor characters as a kind of, where are they now trope? Would also love a bit more gritty, complicated humor.

Also, they focus a little more on the court cases.

some good,some bad

Ana de Armas is the best part of this movie, hands down!

I enjoyed the gadgets, the cinematography, and Jeffrey Wright was good to see again as well. And OMG that motorcycle stunt work, amazing. Also, it's paced well and doesn't feel as long as its runtime.

Unfortunately, the premise was completely forced. I feel like the timeline was problematic. And Rami Maleks character was just flimsy. I didn't feel like he had any real motivation or justification. They tried to give him some but just like the premise, it felt forced and highly unlikely to justify such lofty plans for the finale. The final twist was great but i felt like that was the whole point of the movie; like they built the story around the few final details. Tbh, the more I ponder it, that's exactly what they did.

had to give up
22 September 2021
This was so boring. The plot was non existent, or at best confused and uninteresting in such a way that I couldn't care less how it ends. My only regret is that I watched a much as I did.

Yaaaaaaaaaawwnnn.........

If you know Japan pretty well, meh
22 September 2021
I might love this movie, despite it's being so completely predictable, if I didn't know Japan so well. Actually, it does represent aspects of the culture in a nice way only to rip apart those nods and ruin them completely.

The movie is entertaining, at least. One thing that really annoyed me is how the director obviously tried to make an artsy, indie Tokyo movie in some shots and then must have just felt uninspired for the rest of the movie. It just really lacked a consistent vision.

Also, the guns...... sure, there might be a few guns in the city but NOTHING like how this movie shows. I mean, it's practically a comedy in that regard. I know, I know, it's just a movie. But if you've ever spent any time in Tokyo, you will definitely have a laugh while watching parts of this film.

Fun with great choreography and cgi

I'm a sucker for mythical creatures and fluid fight scenes; this movie had both. The two main characters were very likeable as well.

This is basically a Marvel/Kung fu/fantasy mashup. It's not anything new but it IS a good time.

telegraphs every plot point but so what!
2 September 2021
It's predictable, simple, unbelievable and

freaking hilarious! This is not a movie you should think about. It's not deep or relatable. Just stupid funny with many lovable characters and impossible scenarios. TBH, we need more like this these days.

Not for kids though.

Don't ever count Mr. Cage out

It may take him 20 movies to pull something like Pig out of his hat but when he does, whoo E!

This movie gave me feels honestly. I loved it.

Definitely a few scenes that didn't make sense but it all lead to a very strong emotional response.

Nic, I love you man. You're a legend and movies like this prove it!

closer to ethereal immersion than "movie"
20 August 2021
I liked it a lot. It's right in line with the mythical expectations I had. It's a re imagining though so it won't satisfy most English teachers (besides me lol). It's also slow and driven by image and personal discovery. There is no real action to speak of and the character development is minimal with exception to the lead.

What I liked about it was that it was obviously allegorical, in that it is less about the green knight or Sir Gawain story than it is about the world changing from chivalric and hardy to self-serving and cowardly. It's one of those movies that is open to interpretation and allows the viewer a chance to breathe and if you let it, it will take you away from your own life.

I enjoyed the camera work and props. I highly doubt anyone will see a coffee cup in the background either lol.

Basically, there's a small group of us who will believe this is a masterpiece. Everyone else will obviously hate it.

Is time what's ruining this season? This season started out great. It has gotten more boring with each episode. Hope it gets back to earlier season pacing and plot development

It grows on you
19 March 2019
From the beginning, I wanted to dislike this movie. The lead just didn't strike me as very interesting to start. But like the simple plot and easy to digest acting, he gets better as the movie moves on. The ending was simple and endearing. Nah, it's not that amazing or groundbreaking in the least but it's fun and well paced.
