It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To (2007)
Excellent special effects and scare
Another horror I got at Cinedoo which I think deserves a look at. It's a low budget film but special effects and make up effects are very good and the gore is great. Also I watched it on my iphone so I didn't feel like I was watching a low budget horror. The premises is nothing new - the house is cursed because of the massacre that happened there in the past but some teens think it would make a great place for a birthday party. Sounds familiar, right? However, it's the execution that makes it special. The movie starts slow but 20 minutes into it and you ARE in the horror house. Nothing cheesy or cheep. Acting is good and special effects can easily rival higher budget slashers. The scare is excellent and I can imagine it getting a theatrical release if it was done with a higher budget. Also Tom Savini cameo shows the creators know their stuff. Definitely worth three dollars I paid for it at cinedoo.
Gutterballs (2008)
It delivers!
OK, this movies was finally released in the UK at Cinedoo and so I got a chance to see this indie cult horror (as many people have already called it in external reviews). Take this movies seriously and compare it to a higher budget horror like Friday 13's latest re- incarnation and you will be disappointed. But take it as a cheesy slasher and you'll love it. Especially taking into account its low budget. Seriously. It promises the murders you've never seen before and it delivers! Each murder is so creative that I think you should be a horror genius to come up with something like this. Yes, the rape scene is a little bit uncomfortable but the rest of the movie is a fantastic 80's slasher payback. Some people mentioned bad acting in some places but I'm absolutely sure it's intentional. Overall, despite some minor issues Ryan Nicholson did a really good job here. Absolutely worth two pounds and something I paid for this. Recommended to any slasher fan. P.S. I've read that Gutterballs 2 is already in the oven.
