Until recently I had never heard of this show, and I am sorry for the upset I will cause, but somebody should have been.sectioned for inflicting this drivel on Japan.and America, plus anywhere else that showed it, but this has to rank as about the worst thing ever filmed. It makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Shakespeare. Rubbish is too good a word for it.

Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the best written and acted sitcoms going. One week you cheered for Harold, next week it was Albert you pulled for. If I remember right it was originally broadcast on Thursday nights and Harold Wilson wanted it pulled one election night in case the Labour voters stayed in. Also the final episode had Patricia Routledge playing s medium and ended with the disembodied voice of Harolds dead mother saying goodnight to him.

One thing I have to say. About four years ago BBC4 showed one episode of the American rake Sanford And Son. It was so bad that, to quote the Italian captain from Allo Allo "What a mistake-ah to make-ah.

A final little fact. Wilfrid Brambell played Rigsby on stage (then called Rooksby) in what became Rising Damp. Yet again he wad a "dirty old man" .

Why is it not shown on TV?

I remember this series very fondly and just have one comment to make. Why on earth do channels like Drama and Yesterday seem to have forgotten it exists? Actually I will make another comment. Whatever happened to young Kevin Moreton (Sam in series 1)?.

Welcome back old friends

After not seeing this programme for a while I am watching it again on True Entertainment and finding it just as enjoyable a watch as it was when first on. The setting, the writing and the acting were perfect Sunday night stuff as was Heartbeat and so on. What strikes you about it is how the young actors Ross Little and Polly Thompson really grew into their parts. Currently series 4 is on and in the one I saw last night 14 year old Michael was experiencing his first true romance and the young doctor gave him a fathers type talk and even mentioned movement down below in the rectory. Just good clean fun mixing the sad and silly perfectly.
