The Village (2004)
great movie..ignore the x-generation kiddie critics on here bashing it.
Let me start off saying this..To all of you that boast of how fast you figured out the twist(s)..STOP and get yourself a bozo badge RIGHT NOW! After this..take a deep breath(feeling all mighty and proud of how incredible of a movie buff you really are) and proceed to get a life. The problem is that the new breed of "movie buffs" raised on Hollywood "terrors" such as Scream and I know What You Did Last Summer are getting progressively worse and worse each year at recognizing true cinema and the elements that really make a movie a cinematographic experience and not just some sort of a sporting event where the viewer tries to figure out the plot while ignoring the movie elements themselves. People..PAY ATTENTION TO THE MOVIE AND ITS ELEMENTS. How about atmosphere, camera work, surrounding scenic beauty. Most of the clowns on here who bashed this flick probably talked to their buddy throughout the whole movie ignoring all of these aspects. Ending..(very good one here,by the way) is the icing on the cake and DOES NOT MAKE THE WHOLE MOVIE! Great flick full of powerful acting, fantastic dark atmosphere and twists that are not just there for twists-sake but actually make the story great.I loved it.I thought Sixth Sense was ok and Signs sucked by the way. I was raised on scary movies and have seen more then most people including many non-Hollywood imports. I saw this one at the theater tonight and it rocked me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

Come on folks..get a life
I read a lot of bad reviews of this movie mostly by simple minded idiots who are too attached to their Hollywood type predictability to ever appreciate a movie like this. I mean, why can't a movie be treated as art? Isn't cinematography supposed to be a form of art. The way an artist shoots the movie, the use of light, color (or lack of it),etc.. Come on folks..I judge a flick by how unforgetable it it.In the world of crap movies with nothing to contribute to ones life,a movie like this which shakes one up (with both plot and way it was shot) is a gem in my book. If you don't like "weird" (generic term used by unimaginative people) movies, see another Tom Hanks movie.
Ding tian li di (1973)
Horrible garbage..stay away from!
Now,I'm not a real huge fan of martial arts movies but love the well done movies with J.Chan (like both Drunken Master flix) whom I find to be simply amazing. Do NOT let this movie fool you..this is NOT a Chan movie eventhough he appears in it. Fight sequences are very bad along with everything else including totally unneccessary scene where kids are brutally murdered.Chan does very little fighting and when does,he is beaten down fiercly.Plot is weak (but that's ok if fighting is decent..which is not) Just a total blower of a movie. I got this for about $3 on dvd and I have to say,it was not worth one tenth of what I paid. PURE CRAP.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great stuff
I'm not a martial arts movie fan but after seeing this one,I have to say that I was very impressed. Even if you dont like the genre, you'll be hard pressed to find a more exciting movie. The way it's shot is also different and artistic, sometimes reminding me of Sam Raimi's work (Evil Dead,Darkman, etc.) Great flick.

Total waste of time.
For fans of way-over-violent blood soakers, this movie has absolutely NOTHING to offer an intelligent movie viewer. I guess it's just a sad sign of the times that a waste of film(as well as Woo) gain public acceptance. Woo,Tarantino and such are the reason why murder is totally accepted and cheered on(as if it was a sport) in today's movies. Yes,it is shot interestingly but so are 1000's of foreign movies nowadays. This movie is simply a vehicle for violence, which I don't mind except when it is THIS overdone. It's untasteful and WAY overrated. It was a total waste of my time and will be yours as well unless you think that spitting in a man's face right before you shoot him in the face in cold blood is pretty cool and very funny. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SAD FLICK !
Zeder (1983)
Great movie but definitely a thinking man's horror, not for teenage zombie addicts.
Reading some of the reviews for this movie really gets me going. Kids,STAY AWAY FROM INTELLIGENT HORROR MOVIES!! Go watch another "Smiling Pervert Zombies" or something of that nature. This movie is way above your intelligence level and you will NEVER get it. Don't hate this movie because there is not enough zombies in it! It never promised to be a zombie gore fest. Instead,it is a great horror movie with a wonderful premise and some really spooky scenes("awakening in the coffin "scene!) Great, original movie and I LOVED it!! Well recommended!!
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Could be so much better!!!
I just got back from seeing this one.Being a long time horror freak,I have seen a lot but my mind is always open to new horror stuff, even the mostly weak,Hollywood made flicks. I found myself enjoying the first half quite a bit as I found it frightening. The bodies in the chute and the mystery "man" in the truck were great! Then it was all downhill,I am afraid. Many Hollywood cliches were used and frightfest became a laugh fest.Unveiling of the mystery "man"'s identity was the biggest disappointment.Movie would not have suffered at all,if this identity was not revealed.Special effects were below average and unneccessary. Ending was very forgetable as well. Many people here, are raving about this one. Most are fans of Hollywood MTV generation horror which requires good looking movie cast and usually skimps on plot and scare-factor.Just like modern remake of House On The Haunted Hill, who was for the most part brilliant, this one also has no staying power. Many Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci movies are getting released on dvd in the States. Check out Susperia,Deep Red or The Beyond if you want a scary film without much unneeded special effects. Save your money and forget about this one.
Shock Waves (1977)
Very memorable imagery in this great and spooky film!!
Shock Waves managed, after only one viewing, to become one of this horror freak's top 10 all time flicks. Although I find Peter Cushing to have been a fine and very enjoyable actor, I am in no way a worshipper of his as those types seem very biased rating movies he appears in.This is quite simply a great horror movie with EXCELLENT imagery that will stay with you for quite a while. Wonderful atmosphere, some decent acting and a very original idea of artificially created WW II German soldiers who were for many years living on the bottom of the sea, coming up for air to greet the islands rare visitors. One hell of a movie and yes...Mr.Cushing,although older, still did a great job here. Harder to find on vhs but well worth the search. RATING 9 out of 10 points.
The Asphyx (1972)
Very well made, classy and EXCELLENT flick.
I have just seen The Asphyx couple days ago and must say that I was very impressed by it's classiness. Very well made with great acting and quite simply a superb and original premise for a horror/sci-fi movie.Plenty of drama and sorrow in this one.I have the DVD version of this movie and it will not have to worry about collecting dust in my house as I await another viewing already! Very cool movie.RATING 9 out of 10.
Eaten Alive (1976)
Disturbing, unique, macabre film that I find very surprising to see many Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans didn't like!! GREAT FILM!!
How fans of Texas Chainsaw Massacre fans could possibly dislike this movie is beyond me.At some point T.C.M. became a bandwagon-jumpers'dream.Incredible movie but please, there is only one Texas Chainsaw Massacre. No matter how awesome it is,get over it! Eaten Alive is a movie I STRONGLY reccommend to fans of Massacre as it follows Mr.Hooper's similar recipe.Great horrifying shooting and wild lighting.Incredibly dense sense of macabre.Total atmosphere of insanity and hopelessness.I don't want to comment on the plot(which I liked) but rather to encourage people to see(or re-see) this movie and try to absorb the atmosphere!! It is a disturbing and worthwhile flick(kind I wish Tobe Hooper would continue making) but people that just want to cling to the cliche that Texas Chainsaw Massacre has become, don't bother. You might never see another movie you like as long as you live. very strong 9 out of 10 rating(by the way I rate Texas Chainsaw Massacre a massive 10)
