Sound of Freedom (2023)
Powerful message
This movie hits hard. The negative critics of this movie most likely have not seen it and are motivated by politics. The fact this movie has hardly been prompted and is playing in only half the theatres that the current #1 (Indiana Jones) and #2 ( Insidious) movies are playing in while still holding on to the #3 spot speaks volumes of its quality and message.
You can't see this movie and not be moved, regardless of where you stand on your world views. It delivers a powerful message on child s** trafficking that can't be ignored. Bring your tissues, you're going to need them. This is a hard movie to watch but it's worth it.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Good movies are few and far between these days
Hollywood has really lost its groove over the last 5-10 years. The quality of movies has gone down, too much political stuff is inserted, and they are always just finding movies to redo (poorly) or making another installment of a dead franchise.
This movie, however, shows that there is still hope in Hollywood for a decent movie to be produced. Top Gun: Maverick was nostalgic, well written, action packed, and well acted. Politics and social justice issues were left at the door and a good movie was allowed to be made. You won't find movies like this made that often anymore. Definitely worth a watch, maybe even more than once! If you liked the first Top Gun, you will absolutely enjoy this one.
High School DxD (2012)
So good I had to start reading the light novels!
I honestly don't understand the bad criticism about this show. I guess the overly sexual nature of this genre (ecchi/harem) might be off-putting to some people, but if you can handle the constant barrage of cleavage and sexual jokes it's honestly a great anime! There's actually a story that progresses nicely through all 4 seasons (so far) and it's a decent story to boot. The characters are very likeable and you really find yourself rooting for all of them. The dialogue can be a little cheesy at times but the quality of the animation art and likability of the characters makes up for it.
I'm not a super serious anime critic and haven't watched nearly as much anime as some people who have written reviews on this show. But I can tell you if you're wanting a show with "tig o bitties" as Issei would say, as well as some fun battle scenes with a fairly decent plot and likable characters, this show is for you! I enjoyed it so much I bought the first volume of the light novels (and will be purchasing them as more come out in English)! If you want a fun show to watch, look no further!
The Outpost (2019)
Highly underrated
Without knowing anything about this battle or these men, I would guess this film does this story justice in their eyes. You can't say that about many other war movies. I think the reasons this movie has flown under the radar is because there are really no big name actors (except Orlando Blooms smaller role) and the cheaper looking CGI in some parts. However, the story told by the actors in this movie makes up for any lack of budget. This is worth a watch not only for the quality of this movie, but also in remembrance of the men who fought and died in this battle.
Catherine the Great (2019)
Disappointing
This show completely under delivers on what could be an amazing depiction of one of the greatest female rulers of all time. The whole show revolves around her sex life and nothing else... I would compare how I felt after watching the show to how I felt after watching "Alexander" with Colin Ferrall. If you've seen that movie (I'm sorry if you have) then you know what I'm talking about. It's an utterly disappointing and dull depiction of a ruler that reformed and westernized Russia, and expanded the Russian empire to the largest size it had ever seen. I gave it more stars than it deserves because it looked cool and the actors did well given the script and plot. Otherwise it is trash.
Frontera Verde (2019)
Worth a watch
It's definitely not a fast paced series but somehow it's intense in a subtle way. There is an intermeshing of reality and magic that fits everything together and is cool to boot. The story jumps back and forth between the two main characters timelines yet flows quite well and is easy to keep track of. It definitely has an environmental and political message but doesn't go too overboard with it. The whole story is pretty good, the actors are great especially for being unknowns, and overall it's very visually pleasing to watch. I can't give it 10 stars because there were some negatives for me and it did move too slow in some parts, but still a well done series and worth watching at least once.
Another Life (2019)
Space garbage
Absolute garbage. It checks every politically correct box there is while ensuring no common sense is used while trying to solve major issues on board the ship. It's like a bunch of middle schoolers who are going through puberty were sent on the most important space mission in mankind's history with absolutely zero training and expected to succeed. The only saving grace for this show are the hundreds of creatively awesome negative reviews written about this show that we all can enjoy reading. Do yourself a favor and spend time enjoying those reviews instead of watching the show, you'll thank me later! If you insist on watching it to see for yourself, make sure you're blacked out drunk when you do it!
