Old Henry (2021)
Good not great
Solid and entertaining but restricted by its limited budget. Interesting premise that centers the movie. Tim Blake Nelson does a good job as usual. Trace Adkins has a throwaway role.
Falling (2020)
If you had/have a parent(s) with dementia or an aging parent
This film is very relatable and recommended. Its a complex study of the relationships between parent and child both in the past and present and how the process of aging including dementia humbles everyone. Realistic, gritty, hard to watch at times.
But it is also beautiful, heart felt and personal in its approach to life and the compromises and acceptance that come with it. Mortensen does a wonderful job of switching from past to present scenes and then back again.
Not everything is completely explained you get glimpses of why things have gone the way they have.
Memories can be like that and we never really know all the forces and incidents that shape another's personality.
I liked this film a lot. It is memorable and well done.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Noise, Noise and More Noise
Explosion after deafening explosion, like sitting too close to the speakers at a concert. Some cool visuals and battle tactics but that's it on the good side.
Disappointed in this result. While the original was spare in dialog also it was able to convey mood, emotion and a sense of the characters.
The hero here has his face covered for the first third of the picture and makes it difficult to connect with him.
Had been looking forward to this. This picture will not stand the test of time. Cant recommend you see it but will give them some points for the attempt.
This Is the End (2013)
Self Indulgent garbage
This movie had to have been conceived at a time when these guys were stoned. Just awful. A few laughs but the longer it goes on the worse it gets. The actors play themselves. It's like one big inside joke. Excessive in some of its violence and its lack of respect for its audience.
The monsters that appear as the world ends are borrowed from Ghostbusters and The Fellowship of the Ring. Its one of those bad movies that sticks with you the next day as you wish hadn't wasted your time and could flush it out. But its one of things that doesn't go down with the first flush.
Dedicated fans of these actors may tolerate it better than I did.
