Luminarias (1999)
Worth seeing repeatedly
I've see this movie four times and can't wait to own it on home video. Scott Bakula is wonderful in romantic roles, and its a kick to see Robert Beltran as the cheating husband rather than the self-controlled Chakoty on STAR TREK: VOYAGER. Lily's storyline is weak and Irene's and Sophia's could be covered more, but the friendship between these women is realistic and enjoyable. Its interesting to see prejudice from the Latin point of view, but this movie is not limited to race. One message is that we all need love and friendship and we're more alike than different.
Mary & Tim (1996)
One of my favorites
MARY AND TIM is a remake that out-does the original. The characters have pure motives and there is never a hint of impropriety. Candice and Tom are convincing and attractive in the roles of Mary and Tim. I keep hoping to find this movie available on home video.
Tim (1979)
Mel Gibson is the best thing about this movie
Watching young Mel in the tightest and shortest pants imaginable is the best part of this film. The remake by Candice Bergen for CBS called MARY AND TIM is much better. The characters have purer motives and there is no hint of impropriety.
