Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Visually amazing
A long film for 182 minutes but I would say the time passed well. Good sense of pace, action and strong character development amongst some visually beautiful scenes. The story was bland though, it didn't build on A1 much and the same reasons for being there and the protagonists are a bit boring. For money, this time randomly something from whale brain rather than a precious ore. The colonial didn't need bringing back. You've travelled light years to get there and you just want a row with the natives. It could have been so much better would be my final conclusion although Avatar 3 should be a hoot.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Underwhelming
It's a good yarn with a nice tribute to Chadwick.
The story was far too weak and a shame because the swamp people had a bad ass leader who deserved a bit more screen time.
The Black Panther replacement and the ending was predictable and underwhelming. The new Tony Stark was annoying.
Basically the two parties needed to sign a non-aggression and mutual assistance pact and give the uni student a slap on the wrist.
The film could then have been wrapped up in the first15 minutes.
I'll give this a solid 5 as the battle scenes were pretty good but otherwise I would rush back to the cinema to watch this one.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Decent
The film had a lot of twists and the multi-versing actually worked well. I thought it would turn into a right mess but it's well handled. It's a bumper 2 hours of action. If you love Marvel films you're in for a treat.
Essex Boys: Law of Survival (2015)
4/10 is generous
It's pretty bad. There is not a lot of substance to this film. A dubious link to the Rettendon Murders and lots of people being whacked. It tries to have the same gritty vibe as Rise of the Foot Solider but even then the acting is poor. The Canadian lass is pretty fit.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
7 revised to 5
It was a good yarn, my 10 year old loved it, but perhaps that says it all. For us older Star Wars fans these trilogy films just don't cut the mustard. The characters are OK. The story is just an utter mess. It felt cramped and lacked direction from the outset, The Force Awakens in fact. Palpatine, where did he come from? Rey, oh Hi gramps, that was too left field. The whole massed army of unflyable ships, each with bigger design fault than the death star (have they not learned!), I was kinda pleased for Kylo at the end. If Rogue One taught us anything, strong, simple storylines, with good character development, and some CGI and action go along way. Each of the films in this trilogy lack that. It was an average way to bow out and has all the hallmarks of a Disney politically correct, marketing machine led fest, soulless, misses George Lucas. Sorry.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Don't fall for the hype
I don't get all the hype.
Just over 2 hours waiting for something to happen.
Film was good for 10 minutes.
Once Upon a Time in London (2019)
Football Factory meets Gangsters
Basically the guys from Football Factory become really bad gangsters.
3 is generous.
Stag (2016)
Good Yarn
I stumbled on this and really enjoyed it.
Black comedy and a good yarn.
Good twists towards the end.
Robin Hood (2018)
It's not very good
Great cast and I loved Eggsy in Kingsman, acting is ok, but storyline, wardrobe and the scenery is utter trash. For a medieval film, the actors looked like models out of Primark and H&M with make up out of Boots. They have really mangled a legendary story. For the love of god, stop making terrible remakes.
Derek (2012)
It has everything
It makes you reflect on life and what really matters. A masterpiece.
Aladdin (2019)
It was fun
Will Smith makes this film as Genie. Aladdin and Jasmin were a little average but were cute, I liked Jafar and thought he played a decent baddie. Sound track was good but felt like they were not hitting the high notes to make it better. Good visuals, the monkey, carpet and parrot were great. Overall it was a good remake and doesnt spoil the original with shoddy story changes like they sometimes try and spring on you.
Chernobyl (2019)
Outstanding
Nuclear meltdown is scary.
There were many heroic Russians.
Fantastic series.
Rim of the World (2019)
1 is generous
I honestly don't know what Netflix are playing at.
Not sure what age group this is targeted at?
Plot is standard alien invasion but with no real plot.
Kinda Independence Day meets Jurassic park but so bad you'll finish the film demanding a refund for the live hours spent watching it.
Darius or whatever his name was - just needed to die very early on. Why give the kid such a stereo typical black role, he wasnt funny.
Literally thrown in with the silent karate kid and geek kid on audition day.
Fusion lasers from the cold war - wtf.
I think I'd rather die in a car crash then watch this again.
