Astérix & Obélix : Mission Cléopâtre (2002)
Entertaining but no more
This movie is quite better than the first one "Astérix et Obelix contre César", but it is far away from perfection. The adaptation of the comic book is good, some of the pictures and the dialogs of the movie are the same as in the book. But there's few things that made the movie not as interresting as the animated movie released in 1968. For example the fighting between Numerobis and Amonbofis. This wasn't necessary or even credible, either for the little love story of Astérix. There were also some stuff missing, like the songs that are in the animated movie, and some other things... I am deceived by the movie because they cutted in the stuff I was expecting tho see and they showed things that I did not wanted or needed to see. I know that it would have been very difficult to make the movie exactly the same than the comic book or the animated movie, but that's what I expected. In conclusion, even if the movie is good, I still prefer the animated movie, wich is in my opinion, far better.
The Musketeer (2001)
It could have been good.
This is a movie quite entertaining, with a big deal of stunts. That is the problem in that movie. It is very spectacular, but it is nothing more than that...
First of all, this movie has from the classic novel of Alexandre Dumas only the characters name and the basic synopsis... Which is the young Gascon who wanted to be a Musketeer like is father have been before. As you may presume, the way to succeed is full of enemies and obstacles.
Second, some of the original characters have been deleted (like Milady) or completely transformed (like Cardinal de Richelieu who almost help young D'Artagnan)
In conclusion, do not go see this movie if you want to find it exactly like the novel, you will be very disappointed. This is a spectacular movie, with a great little love story, but nothing more.
Lulu on the Bridge (1998)
Good movie
This movie is good. It changes from the classical Hollywood style. I liked the story. Good interpretation from the actors.
The story is sometimes hard to follow, but it is interesting. I very like the division in two parts, the first one shows what happens if Izzy survives and the second shows what happens if he doesn't. It is interresting to see the idea of Paul Auster. That is good that Paul Auster adapted his own movie. This way, there is no interpretation, the movie is equal to the first idea of the writer.
That's bad to see that the independent movies aren't distributed the same way than the Hollywood ones.
This is a good movie in the style of Paul Auster writing
