Sarlatán (2020)
It is worth it
Czechoslovakian cinematography is flooded with mindless romantic comedies, so it very refreshing to finally see something with a soul. And oh my, this film is something. Breathtaking acting, both Ivan Trojan and Juraj Loj showed what they can do when they are given space and great script to work with. Characters are deep and meaningful, even the smallest roles left me wandering: Who are you, what is your story? Main character, Jan Mikolásek, has an interesting and unusual personality and definitely can't be seen as "a good guy" but he is not "a bad guy" either. I don't know if i would even call him moraly gray. It is completely left on you, how you choose to see him. Personally I also loved how they choose to portray love between two men, how completely breathtaking and pure their relationship was. Couple of times I was very close to tears. If this is where our cinematography is heading, I am definitely excited and I am looking forward to more films like this. Definitely worth watching. If you are slovak/czech, grab your cinema tickets asap. If not, get hold of a subtitled version and watch it too. Great work of art.
The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
Hidden jem
Definitely watch this. One of the best cartoons ever. The storyline is great, originally written. I loved the personality of the detective and the final scene inside the clock is just stunning animation. If you are a fan of animated movies, definitely watch this. If you are not, watch it anyway.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
#1 marvel movie
This really took my breath away. It was super funny, super emotional and Mysterio is just the best. I really liked the new, tech-wibe he brought. I am not a fan of all that alien charecters that came with captain marvel (not a fan of her too) so the ending where it is revealed that fury is not fury feels kind of forced. The rest is just amaizing, love the movie. Surely I will watch it again several times.
Hamlet (2009)
Even David could not save this
Just... not. Weird combination of old english and security cameras made me very confused, I just don't get the time concept of this. Only and only one thing saving this (and also what mede me give it at least 4 stars) are actors. Their performances are just stunning! Especially David Tennant is breathtaking! Gives me chills everytime. So yeah, actors - grat job, tru mastery. Everything else - just awful.
Interstellar (2014)
Good, jut too long
Well, I am not a great fan of space-set movies, but I saw how great reviews this one's getting and I must say, it is something. The plot itself is really great, amaizing and original idea. Scenery and space itself is just insane. Beautiful beautiful. Two things I did not like was length and characters. It was just too long. Some scenes were just flying for 3 minutes or talking about nothing important for another 4. I thing characters were reather plain, I didn't really find a way to any throughout the movie.
Starter for 10 (2006)
Very relaxing and funny movie
Ach McAvoy and Cumberbatch in one move just spells good. Film doesn't have deep, moving plot consisting of three storylines. And it absolutely doesn't need it. This is the move you will watch after bad day at work, when it is raining outside, holding nice cup of tea. Very calming atmosphere with amaizing humour.
Jane Eyre (2011)
Solid and nice
I read Jane Eyre like ten times, it is one of my favourite books of all time. Film is... fine. I wasn't particulary disappoinded, I think it is very nicely written and actors did their job perfectly. One thing I dont like is that they messed up the timeline a bit, which I find very confusing. Surely there are thing that could have been done better (*cough* music *cough*) but Overall, very nicely done.
Atonement (2007)
Beautiful
Kiera and James is just win. They deliver both of their characters so beautifully. I havent read the book, but the film made me cry so hard. I dont particulary like war-themed films, but this one surely has unique place in my heart. Highly recommend to watch. It is just so universal - everyone finds their piece in this.
Filth (2013)
Greatly Exceeded my expectations
Ach brilliant talented McAvoy. What would we do without him and his beautiful scottish accent. Cast is just wonderful. Film is so engaging, I could not stop watching. However, as a person with slavic language as first, it was very hard for me to understand what they're saying, but subtitles helped a lot! Really grat film if you like deeper meanings and you want to stay up all night thinking and googling things ;)
Assassin's Creed (2016)
Was expecting nothing, got an amaizing fighting scenes
Well, I thing this really did not fulfilled it's potential. I have no idea what happened to the plot or where it got lost. I have literary no idea what the film is about. However, fighting scenes are really breath-taking amaizing job! Also camera is great. I just feel that the film is really good just because it has one of the casts it could have wished for. Casting Fassbender as lead is always a win I guess.
Good Omens (2019)
Really did the book justice
I am a big fan of Gaiman's writing and I also read Good Omens several times, so I had high expectations. Even highier when I saw David and Michael got cast as leads. And I was surely not disappointed. I have no words that can describe this masterpiece. Just stunning, breathtaking ride to the end of the world. Love love love. To the world.
Macbeth (2015)
Breathtaking
Combination of modern filming techniques, historical costumes and old english creates the best atmosphere. Add amaizing performances and you have this really great adaptation. Fassbender is again showing how talented he is.
