Author! Author! (1982)
Every Movie can't be about Vampires!
Sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy something for the incredible richness of it's characters the story and the backdrop! NYC circa 1982. That fact in itself added to Al Pacino, Dyan Cannon and a sweet funny script make it pretty cool. This movie is hard for me to watch because I am from NYC and was a teen at the time of the release of this movie and it brings back so many awesome memories it's kind of hard to handle. Anyway I love you guys, pardon my sugary delivery but I'm in a weird mood. Watch this movie, just saw it in HD for the very first time. Ps, Al Pacino is simply the best actor of our time, no matter what the role!
Town & Country (2001)
I loved It. Don't know what people want for 9 Dollars...
I really liked this movie. Enjoyed the incredible locations (The Hamptons, Idaho, NYC in the Winter, The South) Fun watching all the Beaautiful women and the rich lifestyles of the main Characters. Jenna Elfman in her red Dress is enough for me to pay the price of admission. So I don't understand the haters. The scene when he gets a midnight snack is very funny and original. Not every movie is Star Treck. Sometimes Campy, funny humor is all some people need. Charlton Heston as the insane father of the nutter is also pretty awesome. And one last observation Goldie Hawn's tush circa 2001 still awesome!! So get a sense of humor and if you don't have one don't rent it. If you do you might like it. I know I did.
Hitman (2007)
Hit-man Movie is pure gold!
This movie lives up to everything about Hit-man, the game. It is simply a purist's delight. The acting is great. The locations are awesome. Everything about this movie is great. Stallone and Willis could learn from watching this modestly budgeted action gem. Timothy Olyphant is incredible in this role. Only Cristopher Reeves before is such a dead ringer for his comic book character. He brings the video game Hit-man to life. it's amazing. Olga Kurylenko is oh, so hot. If I ran Hollywood Hit-man 2 would already be filming. As a former US Marines sniper, I love the long range shooting scenes the most. Why can't Hollywood use actors like these more often?
Forever Fever (1998)
Great Movie!
Simply stated a feel good movie. Anytime my 10 year old will turn off the Nintendo and enjoy something that's a sign to me that something is at least entertaining. And this movie and it's characters are top of the food chain. From a male perspective born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, let me tell you my two biggest heroes growing up were Bruce Lee and Travolta do I need say more? Also the scenes with the Homosexual brother are deep and important. You must respect this movie. trust me you'll laugh. Also if you find Asian women sexy this is a great film to see some awesome hotties. The soundtrack is also pretty cool. When considering movie by egomaniacs like Tom Cruise this sweet movie is cool.
Enter the Dragon (1973)
Simply The Greatest Martial Artist of All time!
You have to go back to 1973 to understand the greatness of this film. No computer magic, this is all Bruce Lee. So real that in the scene with the broken bottles and Ohara he was severely cut and injured. The greatest tragedy of this movie is that it came out in The USA after his death. How could anyone enjoy the premier? Anyway as screen persona goes who has more? Bruce Lee or the rest of Hollywood? trust me, 3 cheap movies all under 27000 each, then Enter the dragon, 472,000 total budget and 34 years after his death i defy you to tell me of one Male star that commands the respect, affection and loyalty of Bruce Lee! A.Giancana, 5th Degree Black belt, 2 time Okinawan karate world champion. http://www.aikinso.com/index.html
When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts (2006)
You need courage to watch this documentary and not feel ill.
Let me explain this in terms everyone can understand. This is not an issue about Republican or Democrat, Left or Right. This is about justice. When a Government that is responsible for it's people turns it back on an entire State for immoral reasons someone needs to be accountable. This documentary explains in detail what happens when a government any government is not held accountable. There are no glass houses. Heed it's warning. One day it could be you floating down main street. Or burning up from global warming gone mad. This film is terrifying in the sense that it wasn't filmed in a Hollywood studio with some lame like Bruce Willis saving the day and all is well. This is real. And if you can stomach it, watch it. Invite a friend to watch it. And demand accountability from the people that are supposed to work for all of us. What does it say, when the richest country in the world lets it's most weak, sickest, poorest, young and old rot in a major city for over 7days? Watch this documentary and you answer that question yourself.
Nuyorican Dream (2000)
Brutal. Sad. Those beautiful children. I pray they are well.
What can I say? The grandmothers struggle broke my heart. Those beautiful little people, will they also fall victim to East New York? I was born in east New York. 1/2 Puertorican, 1/2 Italian. But thank God my family left when i was five! If you want to see what drugs can do to the inner city family, watch this film. One happy note, the Food! Oh, my god, It was awesome. pasteles, arroz con habichuelas and everything else. I hope someday all my people get it together and shun the street and all it's evil pitfalls. The only way out of the ghetto is through education. There is simply no other way. Well maybe through the consciousness that no matter what pulls you out there that if it doesn't pull you in the right direction you have to fight it with everything you have.
Paris Is Burning (1990)
I Love this movie.
First of all I am a butch, straight white male. But even with that handicap I love this movie. It's about real people. A real time and place. And of course New York City in the 80's. I had many gay friends growing up in New York in the eighties and the one thing about them i always admired was their courage to live their lives the way they wanted to live them. No matter what the consequences. That's courageous. You have to admire that. This is a great film, watch it and take in what it was like to be a flamboyant African American or Hispanic Gay man in the New York of the eighties. It's real life. Bottom line it's real life.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The best movie ever made!
Let me try. As a former Cop injured on the job in 1998 it's sometimes easy to despair. For many of us It's almost as if, we cannot see the blessings in our life unless they are taken from us or we lose them. This movie is about Hope. That's what makes this movie so special. there is a deep lesson in this film and like a work of abstract art, it's what you chose to take from it that makes it whatever it is. For me it's the message that no matter what, it isn't over till it's over. And to quote the film. Get busy living or get busy dying. That's a message. I'm going to try to live it out. Also the entire cast are incredible in their roles.
Surviving Christmas (2004)
The first comments were so obviously Affleck employee's
This movie good? 8 out of 10? please more movies like this Ben? Please! Good to see IMDb is that important in the industry that they are now coming here to write phony bi-lines. I actually consider IMDb one of the webs most important sights. But thats another subject. As to this movie; IT SUCKS! Damon is hands down the brains of this duo. I mean, Ripley, Bourne, the guy is awesome. Affleck? Nice guy, but this guy is cardboard. pure and simple cardboard. At some point Hollywood needs to put him and us out of it's misery. I couldn't watch the whole movie. Also Gandolfini, needs to stick to gangster roles, because he also is not an actor just a player, playing his type on screen in every movie.
Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism (2004)
Chilling to the core!
Chilling, terrifying. Scared the hell out of me. The fact that a news outlet (supposed news outlet) can be so one sided. So blatantly anti democratic scares me to the bone. As a former decorated US Marine and NYC Police Officer I swear to you here and now this look into the way fox news is run freaked me out more than anything I saw in the service or in 12 years with the NYPD! Simply stated it made me think of propaganda as media, without the ability of the masses to know they are being brain washed. When will this sort of thing be outlawed? By that I mean the practice of a propaganda arm of a political party presenting itself to the American people as fair and balanced reporting.
The Saint of Fort Washington (1993)
So realistic it's scary!
As a former NYPD officer I can tell you this film is so realistic it's scary. the terrifying homeless shelters of NY are one step above Dante's Inferno. Potters field on Hart's island is also portrayed exactly as it is.
This Matt Dillon is some kind of actor. How do actors like this get passed over while morons like Sandler and Stiller are so highly praised? This world is just a little upside down. I have a feeling we wont be seeing many more movies like the saint of fort washington now that shrek 2 has busted all previous box office records. Like I said this world is just a little upside down! Danny Glover is also great in his role. So sad that we can spend 200 billion in Iraq and not provide proper facilities for our own mentally disturbed people.
Sora no daikaijû Radon (1956)
Rodan rules.
This is a really well made movie. The colors are great and the effects are pretty coll for 50 years ago. I love to watch these sort of movies with my six year old. Todays kids cannot see horror movies anymore because of the gore. So I have introduced him to the classics and as such enjoy the hell out of watching these sort of movies with him. The modern world has really lost that special something that comes with engaging the imagination as many of us did in the sixties and even the seventies. Rodan is probably the best of all the old toho movies. At least I know it's my favorite. Now soon comes the last in the series this Christmas and it should prove to be waesome.
The Munsters (1964)
I Love the Munsters!
Simply stated the Munsters were awesome. A show that could only be pulled off in the black and white format (Made things look spookier) These characters were my friends in childhood and I simply love them. I first watched them in reruns here in NY all through the seventies, and now watch them with my six year old on Nik. A six year old who happens to have a universal munsters and monsters collection that takes up it's own room! It's weird that such a silly show could bring so much laughter to just one family now for over 40 years! I only wish they could capture the strenght of the original if they ever make another Munsters show. I at least think the Addams Family did with the two Christina Ricci starred movies. God Bless America.
The Station Agent (2003)
I love this movie. I really Love this Movie
I love this movie. If you care about people, if you have ever been lonely, if you've ever felt like the odd manor woman out,See this Movie. It can only enrich your life. It can only enrich your soul. How the lead actor could be denied an academy award is beyond me. Well, that's Hollywood for you. The people who give you american pie 2, European road trip, gigli, cannot give you a film like this.
Capturing the Friedmans (2003)
Horrific Story-They came for my neighbor....
This is one of the most terrifying stories I have ever read about or seen on film. No child at the Friedman home was ever molested! I am a former NYPD patrol man (8 years) and it is so obvious that these Nassau Cops were criminal. They created a case out of nothing. Well, not nothing, the elder Mr. Friedman was a pedophile. But remember the heinous part of this case was the charge of molestation. And molestation did not happen. Jesse spent 13 years in jail for nothing. Nothing. This is horrible. But then again Nassau Count,y I have always believed is a moron's paradise. This is a great film that all Americans need to see so they understand how careful they must be about watching their back in a police state gone wild. Ps. One thing I can tell you from experience is that the NYPD does not operate that way. A more hard working bunch of men and women you will never know.
Monster (2003)
As a former NYPD street cop, let me tell you...
this actress made me forget she is one of the hottest women in the world and took me back to my days on the streets with junkies and the worst of society. If this woman doesn't get an oscar for this film it will be a travesty similar to Ralph Finnes not getting one for "Shindlers list" This performance by Theron is incredible! If you have seen documentaries that show wournos talking and such this movie will make you believe that's who you are watching.
Bad Santa (2003)
great film!
i am biased since more than twenty years ago i was a driver slash bodyguard for an unusual carnival group travelling through the caribbean and south america that had as one of it's members Tony Cox, the small elf who just happens to steal the show. A nicer man you will never meet. And a masterful drum player. Tony congratulations on your great performance in this flick and many others. But this one is the funniest yet. this movie is so funny and real it actually makes you think about the meaning of christmas in the age of buy, buy, buy.
Red Dragon (2002)
WHen is this scam ed norton going to fall of the list?
as most of you know there is a list in Hollywood. The A, B, AB and C list. And once you get on it you make movie after movies. This movie rocked except for this ed norton drone. His lines are always delivered as he was reading them right from a book. But like I said, he's on that list and as such we will be seeing more of this losers movie until he finally falls of it. I wont hold ny breath but I will hope for the day I wake up and ed norton isn't in anymore new movies or in any in production. That way I will know Hollywood is safe from this guys dead pan deliveries. For god's sake he makes my Postman's deliveries seem like Academy awards worthy compared to his!
Elf (2003)
I Love NY and Elf!
Anyone who knows me, knows I love NY more than life itself. This movie is set in NY, it's about an Elf in NY and It showcases Central Park to the extreme. I am a big tough guy but I still had tears in my eyes towards the end. This is a great Christmas movie. Thank you Will Ferrell, for this great Christmas gift for all of us that like, no love this kind of Schtick.
Friday After Next (2002)
I almost dropped dead laughing!
Man, to anyone that thinks this is highbrow art, please, please, get a life. This was supposed to be a ghetto comedy, and as such it is awesome. The scene with Damon and the pimp in the Bathroom almost put me in the hospital. And the Church ladies at the storefront. This is funny stuff. I mean real funny stuff. If you can't find the comedy in this, you need to take the stick..... I'm sorry, as I was saying this is really funny stuff.
Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
I LOVE THIS MOVIE.
As a former 2 time Okinawan Karate world champion, I like movies about sacrifice for sport. But this movie is about so much more. This movie is so good and so deep. I have recently been plagued by very serious injury and pretty much a disastrous lack of passion. Almost lights out for me. And this silly little movie touched me so deep that like out of a daze it reminded me about what life is supposed to be about. This is a movie about living. Living your life for yourself and respect for others. Empowerment. God, bless "Bend it like Beckham" I believe it is a true gem.
Swept Away (2002)
I did find some respect.
I have never liked madonna. Never. And at the start of this movie I just could not believe how horrible it was compared to the original. (a masterpiece) But as the movie went on I forgot I was watching Madonna and I have to tell you in the second part of the movie she is great. Say what you may about her, but in the second half of this movie she proved she can act. And act pretty good at that. It's to bad they didn't explain in the story more of the socialist aspects of Italian life that created the original story line.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Awesome!!
Jason rocks. I love him so much. I hate freddy because he kills children. Jason is number 1. Don't laugh those are my six year olds comments. he wanted me to post them here. Dont think I'm nuts for taking him to jason but since he was 3 that has been his hero. Found a hockey mask at a garage sale and has been playing Jason ever since. Don't worry he hasn't been exposed to the gore or nudity. I edit all that out for him. He and I both loved this movie. one of the best monster to monster fights ever! This movie was great. The whole crowd was applauding at the end. Applauding! Go see Jason vs Freddy.
Hercules in New York (1970)
Arnold Rules!
For a long time I didnt get the Arnold thing, and then I saw "Pumping Iron". Arnold rules! The one and only original Strongman. Nobody compares. Arnold is the undisputed greatest athlete of all time. And as far as I am concerned he cannot do wrong. Most actors ar phony balonies. Arnold is the real deal. I myself am a former US Marine, a 5th degree black belt. And I think Arnold is number one in this movie he's simply true to form. ZTo the Arnold purist this movie is number one.
