And She Rises!
27 July 2019
Hillary Swank plays Erin, a high school teacher, teaching a class that consist of different races. It's mostly a class of high school kids with history of violence and betrayal. This movie is the story of how she stands by her students at the cost of her own personal loss.

Erin takes two more part time jobs to provide her students with books and a trip to a holocaust museum. She uses the Nazi story to bring back light and respect among her students. She gives every student to read, " Diary of Anne Frank." They even meet the holocaust survivors. And then writes their own stories in a book called, Freedom Writers."

This is a true story. A story of faith, beleif and conviction of one teacher that changed the destiny of a class. A must watch.

The Boy With Leaves
23 July 2019
A childless couple buries a box wishing for a child. And presto Timothy appears. Let's first clarify. It a Disney movie, so you get your dose of fantasy. Both his parents work for a factory that is in trouble.

The movie unfolds with other minor characters, like Timothy's mothers sister, his grandfather. Everyone has troubles in relationship. Also the need to be Timothy's perfect parents. Everything blends together in this movie and we learn that gifts are meant to be given away.

This movie is a delight and will make you feel good about life. Go for it.

When You Can Go Back In Time
23 July 2019
Tim is a young man of just 21 when his father reveals that he has the gift of travels back in time. And that changes almost everything, until he learns to live in the present.

It's a beautiful bright movie. Tim marries his girlfriend Mary but over time constantly uses his power to go back in time and fix life. But then can we really fix everything. Isn't living life for the moment itself is traveling in time. Aren't we all time travelers at the end of the day.

Watch this delightful movie just to find that. It will warm your heart.

A Woman Who Never Goes Anywhere
23 July 2019
This movie is about Anna, who never steps outside the house. That's her phobia. She takes care of her sick brother, until one day he dies. The story begins the day of his funeral, when she still stays at home. Not expecting her, three men intrudes to a burglary. But they are in for a shock.

The movie makes you wonder at time and also makes you feel sick as Anna tells her part of the story. The movie had much more potential than was exploited. It's a sure one time watch.

Not great but good enough.

It's Charm All The Way
21 July 2019
This movie is about a multi millionaire, Hugh Grant and his efficient attorney, Sandra Bullock. The movie stands on the charm and charisma of both these two actors. It completely rest on them.

The moment these two meet, you exactly know what the movie has to offer. You must have seen so many rom coms like this. Still you are glued. You want both of them to fall in love. You want the movie to go on forever. The charm to continue.

This movie is like a good afternoon siesta, you know it will end. Yet you want more of it. It leaves you with a smile and you feel refreshed to take over the evening. Watch it for the charming ride it will take you for. And if you are a woman, it's Hugh Grant all the way. Atleast it was for me.

Scaring Without A Ghost
18 July 2019
The moment the movie opens something eerie sets in. Nothing is shown or said, yet you just don't feel right. The movie sets its tone in the opening sequence already.

Jack Nicholson, takes the job of a caretaker of an isolated hotel for 5 months with his wife and young son. He is an aspiring writer and hopes to use this time to create art. The hotel remains closed all this time.

The movie has long shots of the corridors, the hallways or the rooms. It is shot in a way, that it haunts you. You keep feeling uncanny, though technically there is no ghosts or gory scenes. In fact the movie hardly has much violence.

Jack Nicholson as the crazy husband , the little kid and the scared wife makes you feel uneasy each time they appear on screen. The huge spaces in the hotel itself scares you as the background music hums along.

It will scare you long after it is over. One of the finest movies of all times. A must watch.

Hello Mother!
18 July 2019
This is a movie about two little girls aged 5 and 8, abandoned in a hut in a forest. They almost turn feral. Their uncle keeps searching for them, until one day he gets them back, with his girlfriend who sings in a rockband. But the thing is that they don't come back to the civilization alone, but with someone called Mama, who according to them has taken care of them. Victoria the older girl still has her language retained. The younger one can hardly speak. She still lives her jungle ways.

There is a scene that broke my heart, where their uncle meetd them for the first time and Victoria mistakes him as her father.

The ghost is showed in bits and parts. The younger girl Lily makes it looks scarier than it really is. This movie scares you without giving you a heart attack or grossing you out. The ghost appears finally in the last scene, which really tugs your heart

If you are a horror movie lover, you won't regret this ride. Go for it.

A Father And A Daughter
18 July 2019
This movie will one of the best zombie flicks I have ever watched. It begins with a greedy capitalist wanting to have it all, until he takes a train journey with his daughter. That is when the zombie attacks happen. In the movie you are introduced to variety of characters including a husband and his pregnant wife. Two old sisters. A bunch of teeangers. The train driver and the train manager.

The movie is primarily about the father who is a hungry capitalist and his innocent daughter. The zombie attacks are shown in ways that will make you move in your seats. The train and the train stations itself looks like a poignant character in the movie. Amazingly shot .

Though a zombie movie, the transformation of the father will move you. Specifically that last few minutes, where the father thinks of the birth of his daughter, one last time. It will break your heart as well as leave you with goodness. Watch it. But do get some tissues.

A Movie That Awakens
13 July 2019
This movie begins with Dr. Sawyer (Robin Williams) joining a chronic hospital where most of his patients are in vegetative state; unable to move or speak. He meets Leonard ( Robert Di Nero) his patient who too is in a vegetative state. One fine day he finds an experimental drug that brings his patients to life. They can talk and feel . They go out on a trip too.

The movie unfolds beautifully. How does it feels to wake up after 30 years of being almost unconscious. Everything seems so natural. Nothing forced. Until one day the drug fails.

This movie will teach you one more time, that what you and I take for granted is actually priceless. That we can take a walk around can be a dream for someone. It's also about a doctor's helpless trials to revive his patients.

Robin Williams and Robert Di Nero deserved an Oscar for their performances. Beautiful, understated, tragic yet warm. Each time you feel life has let you down, this movie should be on repeat.

Fury Without Fire
17 June 2019
This movie was such a disappointment. The premise looked so promising. A clown kidnapping kids in an English neighborhood. But then it starts dragging and the fear factor that should have held you dies away.

Neither it could make you fall in love with the bonds the children have in the film, nor it could make the fear factor work. The opening scene is brilliant. Rest just drags along.

You can watch it once. But even if you won't, you are not going to miss anything noteworthy. Read the book, instead.

Much Ado About Nothing
16 June 2019
I watched this series with a lot of hope. But it falls flat on it's face. Either the filmmakers slept walked through the making or tried too hard. Apart from Karan Johar's movie, the rest delivers almost nothing. Anurag Kashyap's movie tries to ask a few important questions about love and existence. Yet it fails to make an impact.

Joya Akhtar and Banerjee fails to impress. It's Karan Johar who makes it watchable and puts across question of female desire and pleasure. Something not seen in popular media.

You can watch it once. But not something you will ever come back to.

When Life Gets Real
16 June 2019
Very often we glorify families. Family love is so over rated specially in our movies. But this small Pakistani movie chooses to show a family, that has cracks within and with time the cracks shows.

The movie opens with Aameena taking care of her aging parents. And when things get worse, her siblings comes home. There is love, but there is palpable anger, jealousy and grudges. The family has a secret that finally leads to a break down. And then may be healing.

This movie is about real life. That can be hard and healing at the same time. This is one movie you should not miss. One of the best movies I watched this year. In parts it is devastatingly beautiful. A must watch.

Feminism And A Ghost
11 June 2019
A small town tailor falls in love with a woman who visits his town for four days. And men are abducted by a ghost called Stree during those 4 days. That's when it gets hilarious. What is supposed to be scary turns a laughter riots. Rajkumar Rao is magic in his role as a tailor. But this movie in its own way holds the flag of feminism, Indian Cinema is unaware of. This movie will make you think about gender equality in a very subtle way. The small town that is being shown somehow talks to each one of us. It's a wonderful film, with a lot of heart and ghosts that drives home a point, that women and equality matters. My personal favourite is that scene where men are locked at home and women go out because Stree abducts men. On the surface it looks hilarious and weird, because men always had the streets for themselves. But on the other hand it tells us very gently that this is how women had to stay for centuries, which is unfair. It's a must watch movie of our times!

Faith Can Move Mountains
11 June 2019
This movie is about a terminally ill girl and faith at the end of it. This movie has Christian undertones. However if you are not a Christian and a theist, you can still relate. In a divisive world that we live in, this movie is like fresh air. There are moments that will make you weep, especially when the little girl is in hospital. Yet there are moments of hope, when she meets the doctor and the waitress. The desperation the family to cope up with it is so real and raw.

This movie gives hope in miracles and things that we don't know. If you believe in God, watch this. If you don't; still do. We all need some sunshine. Also, if you don't know, this movie is based on real life incidents!

A Man Who Feels No Pain And The Karate Man
9 June 2019
What a delight, this movie is. Abhimanyu Dasaani plays Surya, a man with a cognitive disorder, which makes him feel no pain. His grandfather, Mahesh Manjrekar encourages him to take up Karate.

Comedy, action, pop culture, weaves the story. You can't really predict the story. Yet, it keeps you interested. Radhika Madan is so wonderful at Supri. Each cast is so well itched.

This movie will tug your heart and make you smile at the same breath. More power to the director, Vasan Bala for this amazing storytelling. Bollywood needs to make more movies like this. Kudos.

Jaya a young window meets Yogi on a dating site. Both are polar opposites yet end up taking a trip together, to meet Yogi's ex- GFs. This is a beautiful movie. Vulnerable, comic and real. It will make you laugh and reflect. Irrfan Khan shines. So does Jaya.

Go for you. It will leave a smile on your face.

A Blind Musician And A Murder
4 June 2019
I haven't seen something like this from Bollywood in the longest time. Ayushman Khurana is a blind pianist. One day he encounters Tabu and her husband on their marriage anniversary. That changes everything in his life. A string of murders follows. And he finds himself entrapped.

The plot changes in minutes without warning. Each character will keep you glued to your seat. The thing is throughout the movie you know the murderer. But you don't know who will come alive out of all it.

Tabu is the best thing in the movie. Ayushman Khurana is gold. So is Radhika Apte and other minor characters. This movie is a must watch. This movie reminds us, what good content does to the audience.

A must watch. Absolutely flawless.

The coincidence of two murders and a writer
4 June 2019
It's a thriller. Though it won't keep you completely chewing your nails, yet will keep you intrigued throughout. Siddharth Malhotra is a murder accused and so is Sonakshi Sinha. They both have their vesions of the story. Akshaye Khanna is the cop who has to find the murderer. The thing is that until the movie ends no one will be able to make a guess.

Akshaye Khanna needs to be seen more in the silver screen. He is fabulous as a cop. Rest all have done a good job.

This movie is a one time watch.

The girl, the con- man and a goat
3 June 2019
This small movie on Netflix, made my Sunday. It stars Abhay Deol, Mithila Palkar and Vijay Raaz. It's about a small town girl, working in Mumbai, whose car gets stolen. That's when she meets the con man played by Abhay Deol. Vijay Raaz plays the bhaai, who has a goat. The movie is breezy. You can relate to the girl and her office trouble. Abhay Deol is a treat to watch in his white shirt and blue denim. He needs to be more on the screens. So understated. So brilliant. Ofcourse Mithila Palkar fitted the role of Nirma perfectly. This movie will make you smile at the end of it. If for nothing, watch it for Abhay Deol. I watched it yesterday, which was a Sunday. It was a perfect weekend movie. I promise you won't regret it. You will walk away with a smile.

Who killed the wife?
3 June 2019
It's a good movie. It's scary in parts. It keeps you in hooks wondering if it's the ghost or the protagonist. The end is something you won't expect .

This movie deserves a one time watch.
