8 Winds (2021)
Suspenseful and unique
I really enjoyed this film! It was both a little unsettling and uplifting at the same time. I loved all the actors' performances and the film score was great. I found it thought provoking and a refreshing departure from all the cookie-cutter productions that flood all the streaming services nowadays. It had me on the edge of the my seat, I recommend this film.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
2 forced endings , no real finale
(SPOILERS BELOW)
Writers that are writing a show finale should watch a fireworks show before they write the final episode. Fireworks finales unload everything in spectacular fashion, this finale did not unload everything and felt anti-climatic. It feels like the writers were forced, in both season 8 and New Blood, to end it a certain way instead of letting the story and characters lead them to an appropriate conclusion. In the Season 8 Finale Showtime would not let the Showrunners kill Dexter then New Blood writers were constrained by Michael C. Hall not returning unless they killed Dexter. Could they have made better finales within these constraints, yes they could have. I really loved the New Blood series up until the last 30 minutes were they crammed down our throats an ending that did not add up from everything else in the season. The showrunners will explain the low IMDB rating on the fact they killed Dexter and people are sad about that but that could not be further from the truth. I think Dexter dying is a great conclusion but the death needs to make sense and be spectacular, befitting such a great character. There was no reason for Dexter to kill Logan other than to be a "prop" to serve the ending they already decided upon...it just did not make sense for Dexter to feel like he was dead to rights, the whole thing felt flimsy to me. It was also flimsy that a kid that stabbed a kid and framed him , who finally felt like he connected with another human being (his Dad) would suddenly be "well I just had some anger" "I don't have a dark passenger", would then have an epiphany about Dexter's collateral damage and then kill his father. Then Dexter say's now he feels love....rubbish, then turn yourself in and don't make your son kill you...and Harrison wants to be normal, huh? Makes no sense with the story arch of New Blood. Great Season other than episode 10. Just watch episodes 1-9 and you will have a great time, pretend it ends there!
