Ghilli (2004)
One of the worst remakes ever
Bad camera quality than original, bad music choices(good music but doesn't suit the tone of the film) the original movie feels like a classic with good paced editing, and classic staging of action sequences. Here the editing feels gimmicky( problem I face with many remakes) and many scenes are unintentionally funny. For example the whole Arjunar villi sequence, the fast paced thumpy music when Trisha is crying and the shirt removing scene by Vijay ( why god why) , and even in the final act the scene where Vijay becomes a windmill. All of these things drags down the film. The only thing which makes movie watchable is the story, but there is always the original with same story and better choreographed action sequences, music choices and doesn't have unnecessary slap stick comedy and the gimmicky editing. I always say that Vijay should never remake as he is very good in his originals like kaththi master etc.
Pokkiri (2007)
One of the worst remakes t have ever seen ( only saving grace was Vijay)
- The movie starts well with Thalapathy's entry fight as it is entirely a replica of original. And Vijay as always with his sway elevates the movie. But when ever Prabhudeva tries to change the movie from original it fails. The changes which Prabhudeva made to the film only makes it feel dated, be it the unnecessary camera zooms(which made it feel like a serial), complicate steps to simple feel good music and the comedy scenes with water tanker is completely cringe. The original Pokiri with mahesh babu still holds up as it doesn't have any scene involving leads which are cringe and has sensible fight scenes which almost makes it a classic gangster vs cop film. I hope Vijay never attempts a remake ever as he shines in his original content like Kaththi, mersal, master.
