Stargate SG-1: The First Commandment (1997)
Worst episode of SG-1, followed by Emancipation.
This is meant to be Scifi, but this episode is a mess.
You have Samantha's Fiancé who was never seen or mentioned before this episode for no reason went power hungry and Homicidal.
Then the planet has sunlight so intense it can kill you before long, but that's more of a triviality.
Look, I want to see strange new worlds, not just some uncivilized humans worshiping an SG Team member!
Even given all those flaws the, witing is weak and actions taken are inconsistent with any kind of logic or procedure.
This is an episode about power corrupting in a way that is just not believable.
The episode would have made more sense if it had been a bit late than the 5th episode, while we don't know precisely how much time has passed since the fist episode this whole thing feels like it would have made more sense if they lost contact with a team for a year and they found them in this state.
It would have been totally forgivable if there was some Scifi justification for him becoming corrupted (Goa'uld symbiote, mind control, bad herbs/food, Sarcophagus, head injury) and it would also have been a lot more compelling if we know and liked him.
But this is just not really a Sci-fi episode!
It has noting that appeals to or related to Scifi.
It's captured by "power corrupts" (but the episode where the Harsesis shows Daniel how he would go wrong was much better done) and just makes me think the SGC are not that careful about who they pick for their off-world teams.
Stargate SG-1: Politics (1998)
A clip show for sure, but one with Drama and some setup
There are episodes I like to skip with SG-1, most all are in Season 1.
But this clip show actually has a pretty decent degree of drama to it.
It introduces us to thorn in the side character of Kinsey, who is easily the most easily despised Tau'ri human character on the show.
Heck, he's worse than a low of the Gou'ld.
So even on a rewatch I typically include this episode.
But it is hardly a normal episode, besides clips there is none of the regular cast no gate travel.
One thing I like about this and some of the other episodes
Where the actions of the team are questioned, if it gives an interesting and important perspective even if I don't ultimately agree with many of the points, some points are valid to a degree.
We know that if they never find the Stargate, Earth seems to be eventually invaded anyway but in the short term gate travel has many times endangered earth and only by the skin of their teeth have SG-1 managed to avoid calamity, and not in all realities, and not always the first time through (time travel can save the day).
If you want to skip episodes, skin ep 3, Emancipation, and skip ep 4 and 5 (Broca & easily my least favorite ep. The First Commandment).
Skip Brief Candle (I mean, it's kinda boing and very implausible) and most with Teal'C's family are not so great, I like Teal-C but don't like his family and it never made sense he left them to suffer the wrath of Apophis), and they are not good to him until eventually Rya'c comes around.
Game Night (2018)
This deserves more than 6.9!
I rated this a 10 and IMO it deserves it.
This is genuinely funny, thrilling and suspenseful, even on a 3rd viewing.
I began to check it out in preparation for showing it to someone and began to get hooked into it.
This is funny, well written and the cinematography is all kinds of fancy.
Jason and Amy are very enjoyable and have great chemistry.
I am putting it up there with Naked gun, Clue, Airplane and Blazing Saddles, Hot Shots.
I am trying to work out what else to show my friend and I fear from here it's all down-hill.
I thought this review was long enough, but it needs to be longer.
