Palm Springs (2020)

The Most Fun Film I Have Seen In a Long Time
13 November 2020
Palm Springs is one of those films that has so much to it. If you are looking for a really fun and fast paced romantic comedy this is for you. If you are looking for a deep and philosophical film that makes you think this is for you. If you want to be sitting on the edge of your seat this film is for you. If you like a fun science fiction adventure this film is for you. Palm Springs is one of those hidden gems that blends so many genres in one film while flowing perfectly. The story is so relatable with the days in the quarantine but also what is most relatable is our two main characters aren't perfect people. They have to learn to become better people from how they have lived their lives in the past. There are so many ways to look at this film but I will leave that up to you. The acting from Sandberg and Milioti is top-notch. The direction is fresh with a blend of beautiful cinematography. What really got me the most though is the music. The blend of old alternative music with a beautiful and almost euphoric score. This film is just an overall wave of emotions while being a roller coaster ride of fun! When the Oscar season is upon us they need to remember this flick!

A great Action/Adventure film that packs a Dramatic Punch
22 August 2020
I always love a great film that knows when it can be intense, funny, and dramatic when it needs to be. This film from a pacing perspective is extremely well done. At the begging it's slow but funny and light hearted. We get to see the humanity in these characters and what their home life looks like. Then as the storm brews the film itself brews up a faster pace. I like the different plot lines intermixing with the three people on the sailboat who need rescuing, the coast guard rescue teams, the families of our main characters back home and of course our main characters who are lead by Clooney and Wahlberg. One thing I really liked about the film was how it felt like a love letter to those who love sailing and the ocean as well. I think that was a nice touch to all of those fisherman who have died out at sea to pay them respect. Overall without getting to much into details this film made me cry, and I look forward to watching it again.

A Realistic Film
18 August 2020
For me when I watch a film I want something that has depth, a message, a gripping climax, a great ending, colorful characters, and sweeping dialogue. This film had that, and something that a lot of films especially romance ones today don't have, charm. I really felt compelled into both of the characters because not only were they super charismatic but they were real. They had feelings, and they cracked jokes and made fun of one another. They bonded over stories, talking about their interests, what makes them get up in the morning and experience life. These are real conversations that I wish we had more of today. Nowadays the dating world is so tough and everyone is moving a mile a minute and one of the key themes in this film I think is to stop and smell the roses. Life is going on right in front of you. Another way it felt so realistic was the super long takes and some editing tricks to help it look like almost one continuous shot. It was almost as if we were facing the characters and experiencing their love begin to bud as we were walking backwards witnessing it. This film moved me and made me tear up. I highly recommend it for not only entertainment, but also for insight into what true human connection looks like.

Da 5 Bloods Review
15 August 2020
Da 5 Bloods is a movie about brotherhood, friendship, war, the effects that things we do can have on our lives and racial injustice. I will say this is not a film for everyone. That being said, it is extremely powerful and entertaining with a very strong message. I think a lot of people will really enjoy it from the way it's shot to some really incredible performances lead by Delroy Lindo who seriously deserves an academy award for his work in this film. It is a blend of satire and political commentary with a mixture or violence and shock as well. The film from a writing standpoint is truly unpredictable but that is one of it's main strengths especially when the pacing of the film picks up dramatically in the second and third acts. I was moved and enjoyed every second of it. I loved how the film was shot for each different point in time this non-linear story is conveyed. I also loved how the editing kept the pacing in a forward building direction until the explosive climax. Even from reading reviews on here I think this will be a very divisive film especially with everything going on but that being said it is a very well made movie with a strong message, and a clear contender for the Best Picture Oscar.

It's All About Finding Your Way Back

Wow! This film really moved me! I am a big fan of sport films but an even bigger fan of great dramas! Affleck gives his best performance on screen that he ever as, and more layers keep getting added to his character through the film! I really liked how human this film felt. The themes of addiction, family, loss, mentorship and finding your way back are so well done and realistic. I will be rooting for Affleck's performance at the oscars because he deserves at least a nomination for his work.

1917 Is a Masterpiece
21 January 2020
Wow! I just walked out of the theater with my girlfriend and we both are still in tears. 1917 is is a beautifully crafted yet epic violent tale of an impossible mission. The style and craft from Mendes directing this film to look like one take is done so well I have never seen anything like it before. Now granted I have seen some good films that are made to look like one take, but this film is done perfectly. The whole film I was shaking with goosebumps one minute then completely sobbing the next and then chuckling at some of the one-liners in the next scene. That being said, this film is building and you can feel it and that climax is so emotionally breathtaking and intense. The performances are outstanding and the cinematography is just incredible. What really ties this film together is Thomas Newman's score that is beautiful yet intense mirroring exactly what the film is. 1917 better win Best Picture and Best Director at least at the oscars and that is saying something in a year like this where there has been so many groundbreaking films and performances. 1917 is my new favourite film.

Exhilarating
5 January 2020
This film understands the difference between a crime drama and a crime thriller. This film was extremly well executed at being suspenseful, fast paced, exciting and intense. Sandler gives such a great performance along with the fact that we in the audience are rooting for him even though his character is a dirtbag there are still moments of humanity along with character development brought in. He really does a good job of elevating his role to a point where you almost understand why he does the things he does but then when he does do something stupid you understand why he would choose to do that because he portrays his character so well. I really enjoyed the screenplay I loved some of the nods to 70s and 80s crime/thrillers. The direction is fantastic and really hits home base. However, most of all the original score is what brings this film to a whole new level. It is pounding and riveting with some classic 80s synth to make it slick and you can literally feel your heart race speed up and become on par with the score as the film progresses.

One Word Describes this film... Masterpiece
9 November 2019
As a kid growing up Joker was my favorite superhero villain and I always enjoyed seeing the different ways he was portrayed as. That being said, nothing tops this film. Phoenix gives one of the best performances of any film I have ever seen in my life. The writing is absolutely enchanting, dark, tight and extremely engaging. This movie blends psychological thriller, with crime mystery, and overall dark drama. The original score is about as perfectly made for a film as it can possibly get. Whenever it came on I notice the effect of the slow burn increasing suspense my heart rate would increase. The pacing in this movie is just fantastic, it flys by so quickly. I am still taking everything in, the symbolic elements, the meaning of it all and the ending especially the ending which is worth the price of admission. Joker is an extremely dark, and emotionally intense film that really is a lot to take in but it is so well done. Masterpiece!!!! Oscars make sure you watch this film and give it the awards it deserves!!!

This Film Brought Me To Tears
12 September 2019
I am still crying as I am writing this review as of right now. I don't even know where to begin. I can now see why this film was one of the highest grossing movies of all time. The blending of genres was masterfully done through the style of a Historical Romance/Drama, and a Disaster/Action film. The writing was absolutely superb, for a 3 hour movie I found myself completely engaged not even blinking my eye. The costumes, music, performances, characters, cinematography, dialogue was so magical I can't even put words here to describe the beauty of everything put into this movie. The performances just take your breathe away. Jack and Rose's love story is so full of life and heart and what true love should be even if it's a battle or your not the same class and can't be together ounce you find your soulmate that's what love is about. Their characters felt so human and that really is what puts this movie at a whole new level. The camerawork is some of the best I have ever seen in any film. I don't even want to spoil how thrilling, chilling, beautifully well done the Titanic sinking part of the film is because it is something you just have to see for yourself and experience the devastating heartbreaking tragedy that occurred. James Cameron you are and will always be one of the best filmmakers to ever live and this is your ultimate masterpiece.

Historical Fiction War Film At It's Finest
20 August 2019
I will never forget the first time I watched this film. It was in my Sophomore year of High School German 2 class. I had never seen a Tarantino film, and was just at the cusp of becoming a huge movie nerd. From the moment "The Green Leaves of Summer" by Screen Gems Orchestra played I felt like I was taken back in a time machine to WW2. The first scene is filled with so much suspense as we are introduced to Col. Hans Landa in which I think Christoph Waltz gives one of the best performances I have seen in any films. The dialogue for being multi-lingual is extremely well written and easy to follow. The plot is very complex but with Tarantino's right writing and directing it all comes together and leaves you wanting more. I will say this masterpiece is very violent and knowing that going in is very important if your not into violence. That being said, a lot of the violence is very realistic and makes you feel like you are killing Nazis right alongside Lt. Aldo Raine (played by Brad Pitt who gives a strong performance as well). This film is extremely intense and full of suspense and humor as well as a lot of satire and a great original score. The best complement I can give this film is it made me want to be a movie nerd and become a huge Tarantino fan. So get our your sour kraut, turn on the fireplace and enjoy this wonderful Historical-Fiction/War-Thriller.

An Entertainingly Fun Love Letter to Tarantino's Style
14 August 2019
With a great soundtrack, fantastic performances, magnificent cinematography, and a thrilling non-linear screenplay, this film captures the true essence of the Tarantino style of mystery/thrillers. The twists and turns and scenes from every characters point of view really help this plot develop. It is a very engaging film, and well paced by starting out slow and getting more intense as the adventure captivates you. The only part that confuses me is why this didn't even get an Oscar nomination for best writing/adapted screenplay? This tightly written film is a true must see!

Tarantino is a Film Genius
26 July 2019
I just saw this film and was blown away! This story is a sharply directed and written cross between a love letter to the late 60's in Hollywood and a buddy film. The cinematography is gorgeous and all of the colors are incredible to look at. The non-linear storytelling and narration we all know Tarantino does best is at the top of his game. I absolutely loved the scenes that were Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) acting in the movies he stars in. They were extremely intense or hilariously funny but so enjoyable. That being said, what really puts this movie ahead more than any other is the performances from DiCaprio and Pitt. They are both hilarious and then in the next scene they are making you tear up or feel their emotions at a whole new level. DiCaprio has to be an actor playing an actor who occasionally is playing a role in tv shows or movies which is extremely difficult and he blows it out of the water. Pitt plays a mysterious and hilarious stunt man who is cocky but deep down he will always be Rick's friend. Alright academy awards let's bring home the bacon with this incredible piece of film.
