Fire with Fire (1986)
My search for this AWESOME movie and why I cannot help but laugh at it sometimes
As with a few other commenters, I too first saw this movie in my early teens. When I was about ten or eleven, I had only seen the movie once, but I never forgot it. It is one of those few stories that stick with you. For some reason, I had started to think about the movie again when I in college (3 years ago) but I could not remember the actors or the name of the movie. So here I am, looking up "prison camp, love, movie, catholic school girl" on the internet. you can image that did not turn out well.
Finally I caught a break. I thought the guy in the movie looked a lot like craig scheffer so I looked him. Guess what, it WAS him. So I immediately went searching to purchase Fire with Fire. Got the movie on DVD (looks like it was just copied from VHS).
Great story and 80s movie.
I LOVE THE MOVIE, but I can not help but make fun of it. If you love this movie and would hate to read anything cynical about it, DO NOT READ ON.
Firstly, Joe has unibrow. I can not look away even though I am in love with him. I swear Lisa's eyes snap to it a few times. Secondly, during the seen in the crypt, I feared that lisa's hair would catch fire. Thirdly, after the dance, Lisa is waving good bye and is symbolizing the hand-holding move, she looks like she is thinking "look, I have five fingers." DUDE MAPMAKER does NOT have a name!!!! Not even in the credits.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in love and romance. I just can not help but make fun of it sometimes. Maybe because I am still waiting on the man of my dreams.
I do believe there is a romantic in everyone and you should fight to keep that romance alive.
American Nightmare (2002)
Watch Behind the Scenes FIRST. Then the movie
When I first watched the movie I was disappointed. HOWEVER, I saw the "Behind the Scenes" and I must say that I like it for that.
For one, I wish that the actress had her hair like she had Behind the screens (she looks great, in the movie she looked like a mother figure).
I wish I saw the "Behind the scenes" before i watch the movie because I would have noticed the lighting (apparently Jane was in dark color, the friends were in bright colors. In the same screen Jane and a friend would be talking, Jane would be dark, the friend would be bright, but when the Jane would start to coax the friend to go with her, the friend would be dark as well. Pretty cool).
I like the story about the little girl actress. The movie was made at night and everyone kept falling asleep on set. This is the same for the little girl. The other actors need a little time to wake up and be ready for a scene. But not the little girl. The director would say ACTION and she was wide awake. As soon as CUT was called she would fall asleep where ever she was. Sweet.
BEST PART of the Behind the scenes was about the kissing scene between Brandy Little and Johnny Sneed as described by Johnny: "I had a kissing seen with brandy. That was a lot of fun. And Kyle, Brandy's husband, he was great. He's a big guy and he was always on the set sort of helping out. For the big kissing scene, I went over to him and said 'look, I just want you to know that I am dating someone and, no, I don't have any feelings for Brandy.' We had a nice man to man talk and he was great. Kyle is such a great guy, really kind hearted guy. Really understanding. And he said "Johnny, I understand you're an actor, she's an actor. I know how this works. And, ah, you know, if the kiss lasts longer than 2 or 3 seconds I am going to rip your head off.' So, I think he and I had an understanding."
Awesome.
BUT. I wish I knew more about Jane. Why was she rampaging? but, as in real life, not all answers can be rolled out to you. O D Well.
The Stand (1994)
Great Adaption of a Book
This movie was an excellent adaption of an even greater book. Though the movie was four hours long, I have been known to watch it over and over again. Now if you are a person who lacks time to read a 1135 page book then WATCH THIS MOVIE.
If this movie ever inspires you to read the book (as it did for me) note the differences. I suggest that you keep pen and paper next to you because there are many. For instance, Nick gets in a fight both in the book and the movie. In the book, Nick loses his sight in one of his eyes. When you see the movie you will understand why this is horrible for him (more him than others). Furthermore in the book there is a play on three characters: the woman that came out of N.Y. with Larry, Nadine Cross, and Lucy Swann. I think the movie did an excellent job in changing up the character plots of Nadine and Lucy to incorporate the plots in the book. Now if you watch the movie then read the book, note the woman who finds Larry sleeping is NADINE!!! I thought it was Lucy Swann, but I was wrong and it was really difficult to change my mental picture.
So Watch this excellent and long movie.
A Sound of Thunder (2005)
Rainy Day movie for Non-readers
I have always been big in to stories. This movie has a Great story with action...as long as you can get over the dismal digital effects. When first viewing the movie, get over the bad special effects as soon as possible. Doing this first, you will see the good aspects of the movie instead of looking for even worst effects.
I had saw previews for this movie on-line and was confused as to why it went straight to DVD in my area. Once I started the movie, I understood completely (bad special effects as I explained earlier).
But I do not care what anyone else says, I liked it. If you hate reading books and want a good story, I say watch this movie on a rainy day.
