The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Amazing Series. My Favorite Sci-fi Since Fringe
The cast is amazing. Robert Sheehan is hands down one of the most talented and funny actors I have ever seen, and the rest of of the cast isn't far behind. Eliot Page's character was incredibly well written, and their transformation was well acted. The effects are mostly pretty good. There's a few scenes in season 3 where it looks like effects were low budget, but they were edited to short scenes. That's why I gave it a 9. Otherwise it's a 10/10
#5 was great. I hope that actor goes on to some great roles.
The first season started out strong and kept going. I kept seeing this pop up in my Netflix que, but the monkey made me think it was a bit too absurd to be worth watching. It's not. The talking monkey is a wonderful character and didn't have enough screen time.
Gutsy (2022)
Cherry Picks Information. Horrible Docu Series
I'm a big fan of many of the women in this series; however, it's all fluff. Jane Goodall is one of the reasons I became a teacher, but this just idolizes her and doesn't touch on any of the negative aspects of her career or negative effects she had on science, local communities, and the animals themselves. It looks like it's all that way. I'm all for celebrating women for their accomplishments, but a true documentary series needs to be unbiased. It all plays out like a Lifetime Christmas drama. I'm excited about the Goldie Hawn portion. She is remarkable and most likely the only person on this series without controversy or things they need to cover up. Hillary is a bit obtuse as to how she comes off. She's very unlikeable. I realize she's trying to make a contribution, but this is as boring as an awards banquet and only flatters the subject with things we already know. This series offers no new information and puts the subjects on pedestals. I guess it might be something to watch with very young young children, or maybe a primary school classroom, it I was expecting something more. Sadly, this is pretty much something you can have running in the background while doing something else. If you want better representation of these women, pick up their biographies. This show is bland and self-serving. Now, if she got someone like Michael Moore involved, that might correct what's wrong with this show.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Visuals are great. Story and writing is horrible.
I had a bad feeling when the "Do you know why boats float?" Line came up in the first episode, but I stuck with it to see if it got any better. It didn't. It's like they're trying to write like Tolkien, but putting his words in a blender and going with whatever comes out. But the visuals are good and the female dwarf is pretty good. I hope to see her on other things. The sound editing is good, but not as great as the visuals. It's sad that the spent this much money and didn't hire competent writers. It doesn't really fit in with the movies, as they are restricted to what parts of Tolkien's writing they paid for, so at least they can't ruin the movies' characters or story.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Load of garbage
The cgi was the real killer for me, as I can take bad acting and writing, which this show has in spades. There's nothing good to see here. Every line spoken was cringe.
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
A poor ending to a great trilogy
I was disappointed in the movie as a whole, but some parts will stay in my X-Men movie memory for a long time. The action sequences were seemingly flawless, but the storyline that fell in-between explosions was very weak. Wolverine's lines were G rated and stale, while some of the new cast members were spewing off curse words left and right and even they had little impact or momentum to move the plot or give it flavor. The story was lost, and I think it was because it was trying to do too many things. Phoenix was fighting for her storyline, several characters were fighting for their storyline to end, and then there was the main storyline trying to fill the empty spots, but there wasn't any available.
As for the new characters: Beast was a better character than I expected. Juggernaut was a very small role, but effective, Angel was anticlimactic, Calisto was nice to watch, but said and did little of importance.
This is the first X-Men movie I wont be going back to see in the theatre, but I will buy the DVD to complete the set.
