Natten har øjne (2022)
A Clever and Punchy Little Horror Film
This film was an incredibly enjoyable and engaging watch, and really fun to see in the cinema. A beautiful example of claustrophobic family horror, it manages to balance tension and emotional stakes while still being funny and charming. Every member of the small cast gives a really phenomenal performance.
This was a quarantine film that was shot quickly, and it shows a little in some clumsy exposition but that is easily my only criticism. All told, it is incredibly sharp, original and multifaceted, with a stunning cast and strong direction, a wonderful, complex queer storyline and a very fresh take on some old tropes. Absolutely delightful.
The Stranger (2020)
Poorly Written
I liked the concept and it started strong, but overall the writing couldn't hold up. The story just didn't make a lot of sense, plot developments were difficult to understand and character motivation was often completely lacking. Also that's not at all how microchips work. I wanted to like it, but it was not worth the time.
Midway (2019)
Dull and Uninventive
We've had over 70 years to make movies about WWII and apparently these filmmakers felt no need to do anything remotely different. It is a barely tolerable parade of bland, interchangeable white men. The CGI is pretty good, Ed Skrein's accent is appalling. Sorely lacking diversity. You can skip this one.
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020)
It's hot garbage and I love it.
Very fun, trashy tv. Yes the diversity feels a little forced, but I'll take forced diversity over no diversity any day. Feels modern, good ethics and really enjoyable to watch.
