Terminator Salvation (2009)
Entertaining and faithful to the original movies
This movie doesn't deserve the hate it got back then.
The movie is a decent action summer blockbuster, and it took you to judgment day, it added to the franchise and tried to do something different, and I believe it worked.
It's not a masterpiece but it is definitely a good movie.
The Prestige (2006)
A blend of science fiction and magic
This movie is about a rivalry between two magicians, it shows you how an unhealthy obsession can make you lose everything.
What I love about this movie is that Nolan creates the movie as a magic trick, the trick itself is simple and very obvious but you don't want to believe it you want something more.
BUT don't view it as a period movie because it has a science fiction element that I don't want to spoil.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
I can't believe this is put on the list of the best 250 movies ever made!
It's entertaining but not great. It's like all marvel movies nothing new.
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)
Funny and heartwarming
Caring for a disabled reclusive kid caries the risk of cliché scenes of course but overall it is funny and heartwarming.
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)
May be you are the bad person in your own story
Nadine is a pessimistic depressed dislikable teen. She hates everyone, first you sympathize with her, then soon you realize that everyone is not that bad.
This movie is different, it's not about the bullied kid who grows up to prove for everybody that they were wrong. It's about unconfident persons who think that everybody hates them and that they are the only people suffering in this world. It's about people who always love to play the victim.
I loved this movie, very realistic and funny at times. I highly recommend it.
All the Little Animals (1998)
Moral of the story: every living soul matters
I loved the movie, you really love Bobby and feel sorry for him :(
Bobby is mentally handicapped, after his mother's death he is exploited by his stepfather who wants to take his money, so he ran away and met Mr Summers who you find at the end that he has an intriguing story as well.
They burry animals on the road ( which you could find a weird job to do), but there's a line in the movie that I loved so much where Bobby says that every little thing matters and makes a difference on this earth that's why he also matters and he is important.
I have only one objection, his stepfather is portrayed as pure evil, which was slightly cartoonish, he cares only about the money, may be that justifies the ending but I felt it could have been better.
Ps: the following year after this movie Bale did American psycho! Just compare both characters with just a year in between them! He's incredible.
Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001)
A decent movie about love during war
The movie looks beautiful and the story is very good. Perhaps the only unnecessary thing is the accent they adopt for this movie but it's not as bad as written in other reviews. Definitely worth watching.
Mowgli (2018)
It's different from the other versions, and I loved it
The theme of the movie is searching for one's identity and trying to belong. It's heavier than the disney ones and definitely not for kids because of one scene that I don't want to spoil.
The performance capture really makes a difference, if you paid attention you could really see the actors faces through the animals!
The actors gave amazing performances especially Christian Bale and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The kid portraying Mowgli was also very good.
There's one scene where you could see tears in the eyes of Bagheera! It broke my heart.
To sum up, it's a different take on the story, more faithful to the books and definitely worth watching.
Metroland (1997)
The movie is ok but I didn't like the ending
It's a reflection on choices and nostalgia to the old fun pre marriage days. It's a decent movie but it adds nothing really.
What bothered me the most is his friend Tony, he is a jerk and he made a pass at his wife. Despite that, there is a scene at the end where Chris is talking to him and telling him that he is content and happy with his marriage, how come after what he did that the two are talking together as if nothing happened??
Jin ling shi san chai (2011)
A wonderful movie 10/10
I love the title of the movie! It shows how, during the horros of war, wonderful heroic acts came from the least expected people. It is poignant and beautiful.
Knight of Cups (2015)
Relaxing with unspoken emotions but will be boring for many
What I liked: Relaxing, beautiful quotes, the cinematography, unspoken touching emotions, Christian Bale
What I didn't like: Many unnecessary scenes/ it's exhausting to watch it all at one time, it needs to be divided or play it in the background while doing something else
Don't watch it if you are seeking a plot based or a good dialogue movie, it feels like a silent movie but it may make you feel something ( according to your mood)
But generally I'm not a big fan of Malick's style
The Dictator (2012)
Too dumb to laugh
I know it's an exaggeration of the prejudice that Americans have about Arabs but the jokes are really too silly and sometimes disgusting to make me laugh.
Music and Lyrics (2007)
Heartwarming with a wonderful collection of songs!
I loved it so much! It's funny and heartwarming. The music is so good especially the main song way back into love. Also the record of the band Pop is one of the funniest thing I've ever seen hahaha!
It definitely deserves a higher rating.
Green Zone (2010)
IMDb rating is 6.8?? how so??
The movie is very well done from the action scenes to the performances and it is very well written.
It is realistic too as it shows good and bad people on both sides.
Les Misérables (2012)
Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway!!
There are some things that I didn't like in this movie but Jackman and Hathaway's performance made up for that! Their performance was sooooo moving.
Eddie Redmayne did a good job too.
But there should have been more dialogue and less songs in my opinion and not all the actors sang perfectly which annoyed me a little.
( Ps: I love Russel Crowe's voice but I don't know why I felt it doesn't suit his character)
Overall it's really a good movie.
American Hustle (2013)
It's not purely a hustle movie, it's a character based movie
If you watched it purely as a crime movie you will be disappointed. The main theme is trying to change your life against circumstances.
The soundtrack and the dialogue are amazing. The ending is very good.
My only issue is that it felt random in many scenes because of a very large cast so it's hard to follow everyone.
A thing that I loved so much in this movie is that Irving ( Bale's character ) was very charming and charismatic that makes you believe that Amy's character (who was super hot will fall in love with him). So be yourself no matter what and someone will love you just as you are.
The Machinist (2004)
Wait till the end!
I loved this movie, I watched it a while ago and it really sticks with you afterwards.
My only remark is that some scenes were longer than needed.
The ending is shocking and poignant, it's definitely worth seeing
Public Enemies (2009)
Could have been better but it's worth watching
The thing is.. this is Bale and Depp in a gangster movie! This naturally sets the bars high!
The cast is great, the story is interesting but it is too slow, it could have been a good hour and a half movie..
The performances are really good, Depp is so cool, Bale is unrecognizable (as usual) and he has been praised by Purvis's family for his performance! BUT they weren't given a good script to develop their characters more!
To sum up, this is decent movie worth watching and there are some good scenes in it, but it needed better pacing and more character development.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
The best movie I watched since a long time and it's for everyone
Before writing my review I wanted to answer those who criticized the movie for being historically inaccurate, come on guys this is not a documentary! Even the director said that it is inspired by real life events but not all of this really happened.
And for those who said that this movie glorifies Ford it doesn't by any means, at the time Ferrari had the top cars and racers so Ford envied them, so the movie does the exact opposite.
Now let's talk about why I adored this movie (and I'm not even a car racing fan):
1- The racing scenes were incredible, they are taken from inside the car so you feel that you are with Ken Miles in the car, it's very engaging and exciting.
2- The cast is amazing! with beautiful chemistry especially Bale, Matt , Josh Lucas and Tracy Letts
3- CHRISTIAN BALE! As usual he is unrecognizable and gives a wonderful performance. His character is so likable and unique and you really get attached to him.
I wished more people had seen this movie in theatre because movies like this are not made anymore and it really deserves to be supported. I guess the name wasn't attractive for a wider audience. But anyhow go see it now! You won't be disappointed
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
I don't know why people love this movie?
I love the cast so much but this is one of the most boring movies I ever watched (especially with a big budget movie)
What's the point of this movie? It felt very random and it led to nothing. Perhaps because I'm not american I didn't get the humor as of cultural differences?? I really want to know why some people loved it that much..
Eat Pray Love (2010)
The problem is lack of character development which made it very dull
Well, the movie contains few good quotes and beautifully looking scenes from different countries.. But you know NOTHING about the main character so how could I get engaged to her story?? I thought it's an emotional movie but it's not, because of the lack of character development. What happened to her marriage? why did it fail? What is she seeking? You know nothing!
The New World (2005)
This could have been a really great movie! The problem is it's TOO LONG
The cinematography is amazing, the cast is wonderful, the soundtrack by James Horner! What else would you need for a great movie?? I liked the first hour when Collin Farrell was discovering this new land and the last hour with Christian bale was just love I enjoyed it very much! His character was so beautiful and kind you really like him. But in between it is so boring and a lot of whispering and cinematography and nothing is actually happening I don't know why????
Empire of the Sun (1987)
The story of war through the eyes of a child makes it more poignant
Christian Bale was amazing in this movie. He started as an obnoxious boy that you really dislike then you watch all the horrors he went through and you watch him grow to a kind young man.
From a child's point of view he doesn't care who wins the war, he love airplanes and admire brave pilots. He was so innocent at the beginning believing that his parents will eventually come to him then at the end he lost hope even he forgot how his parents look like. This movie is an underrated gem!
Out of the Furnace (2013)
Don't watch it as a thriller, it's a pure drama.
I loved this movie with the second watch more! First time I thought it was a thriller, I was thriving for something to happen, the story was just too slow but the performances were amazing and that what kept me waiting till the end. But the second time I watched it I knew what it is about so I didn't give a damn about the story and I focused only on the performances and they are amazing! It's a journey of man who's losing everything throughout the movie, a very decent man who at the end of the movie kills. It's very poignant and emotional and I loved it.
Also, the SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING.
Swing Kids (1993)
This movie deserves more praise!
I loved this movie! Basically Thomas and Peter are two friends choosing opposite paths during the Nazi period in Germany. It depicts the horrors of this period like how they forced the young boys to spy on everyone even their parents! It is so touching, Christian Bale and Robert Sean Leonard are incredible. Also very entertaining with their sense of humor and their dancing on swing music. A must watch 👌
