American Nightmare (2024)
Solid coverage of a bizarre kidnapping
I remember this event when it occurred and the BS police response. Furthermore the media and public ridicule that ensued.
I suggest you go into watching this series with an open mind free from any preconceived ideas.
Seriously.
The recreations are complete and thorough.
Detective errr Colonel Mustard is a complete misogynistic muppet who (I hope) probably regrets his handling of this case.
My only misgivings regarding this documentary series is whether any monies exchanged hands with the key characters to participate.
If so, it biases the narrative. Sadly.
In any case, watch it and follow the failings of the police in their handling of this unique and hopefully never to be repeated case.
Peace.
C*A*U*G*H*T (2023)
Watch this. Seriously!
Before I dared watching this series I was extremely sceptical of the calibre of the show. I too had all the preconceived ideas around rubbish Australian content and thought that that this series ranked with the best of the bottom feeders.
How wrong I was.
Sincerely.
Halfway through the first episode I saw the brilliance in its writing direction and performance.
Truly.
I wanted to attribute particular accolades to one performance however everyone shines.
There's so many performances I won't spoil.
Erik is so great.
Especially when he asks for the massage door to be closed and he rolls over.
I laughed at the dark and oh so sharp Australian humour.
Moreover our cultural peculiarities with our errrr, sister nation, the U S of Aye.
Led by our stand out PM, Brian Brown - who I'm sure was channeling the idiosyncratic qualities from the late (and maybe not so great) Bob Hawke.
Enough said.
Please ignore the rest of these negative comments.
They don't understand Australian humour nor can anyone speak our accent.
All hail the Dingo!
Travis is such a wonderful dancer.
Kick needs to write more and more and more.
Accidental Truth: UFO Revelations (2023)
Rubbish
If you watch this and believe. Then you are not truly informed. The content included here is false and or misleading. I direct you to the New York Post video expose on Skinwalker Ranch. Further there are many issues here which simply do not stack up. Why? Because they don't have the real evidence to support the narrative. Instead they have only people onscreen talking. People can talk all day about what he said she said etc. Importantly I am very well versed in immersing myself in this material and subject matter. Why? Because I want to be informed by all sorts of content across multiple platforms. Sadly this doco falls very far short of properly informing. Instead it rehashes old or worse lazy misnomers. You've been warned.
Unprecedented (2022)
Weak
Alex your work as a filmmaker allegedly wanting to expose the Trump mafia fell way short. Instead it seems you drank the kool aid and succumbed to shooting a select few media appearances with the Trump approval. Shame on you for your lightweight insight.
The Deep End (2022)
Absolute
Rubbish. Simply put, if you offer the vulnerable kool-aid, they'll drink it. This woman's bias against other women in her 'inner circle' suggests her own insecurities which bleed out through the cracks in this one dimensional documentary series. Sadly it never digs deeper that the Band-Aid on the Teal coloured skin. Watch with Teal-coloured glasses...
Zachowaj spokój (2022)
Absolute rubbish
An absolute piece of rubbish. Moreover the overt violence against women is abhorrent. This is clearly a series which Netflix was desperate to green light despite the gaping plot flaws.terrible acting and even worse storyline. 6 hours of your life you'll never get back!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Ridiculousness
I'm unsure of why this has received a high IMDb rating. It's rubbish and slow and nonsensical. Instead this film rakes in all past cast members for some obscure reminiscent feelgood film. Trash at its Hollywood best. You've been warned.
The Adam Project (2022)
A Spielberg Wanna Be
At just over 100mins The Adam Project kinda ticks the boxes of a Spielberg blockbuster however it falls short and just is an ok popcorn movie. Enter at your own risk.
Gold (2022)
Gold FeverLESS
Such a shame for a film produced here in Australia. Poor narrative, poor production design and poorer cinematography. The colour grading of this film aka the desaturation looks cheap which underpins a stench of desperate film making. Be warned, this is 90mins you'll never get back and you'll start looking at your phone inside the first 10mins. Truly.
John and the Hole (2021)
Great except for the ending
Such a beautifully scripted film yet the final scene unravels the entire premise of the story. Such a shame for a such a could be great film. Watch it and you'll see.
Undercover (2019)
This show
Keeps getting better with each season. Story plots are tightly woven from episode to episode. If you haven't yet discovered this series then do yourself a favour and binge it all. You won't be disappointed. Truly.
Triple 9 (2016)
Underrated
One of the most underrated films! Stellar cast and killer story. And incredible cinematography which makes for a very dark and understated film. It's opening sequence is one of the best ever captured. Watch it.
My Son (2021)
So good yet so bad
So what was the ending??? So many questions left unanswered. Such a shame. Watch at your own peril. You have been warned.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
This is definitely not...
The White Lotus. Instead it's a vacuous series which wallows in bad acting and narrative and fails badly in its attempt to match the caliber of originality of The White Lotus. Shameful Tranquillum.
Disparu à jamais (2021)
Another bad Netflix series.
Bad acting. Bad direction. Bad production design. Bad cinematography. Sadly Netflix pulled the trigger on a series prematurely.
Seaspiracy (2021)
Haters Be Haters
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with the global fishing industry.
However having worked for over 20 years in the news media industry as a camera operator I am acutely aware of the manipulation of images to create a believable narrative.
This documentary does exactly this.
Moreover it sacrifices facts at the expense of delivering sensational messaging (which is out of context and misleading) by editing in misrepresented imagery to support their alleged argument(s)/narrative.
It's irresponsible of Netflix to sanction such a blatant expose.
Shame !
High Ground (2020)
Good but
Not great. Sadly. Worst part - the cinematography. Shame.
A Classic Horror Story (2021)
Love Italian Cinema BUT
This film is not worthy. Unfortunately it try's to be something it's not. Instead it's nonsensical and lightweight. Shame.
The Mosquito Coast (2021)
Never...
Trust an actor who dyes his eyebrows and hair colour. Nothing more needs to be said.
The Tailings (2021)
Screen Dread Australia
Why or How!? Do these premature scripts get green lit by Screen Australia? More importantly is there something rotten inside Screen Australia? Either way, I unfortunately only made it to the 2min mark of the first season before alarm bells tolled. Smells like a cross between Home and Away and bad acting. Such a shame.
Under Suspicion: Uncovering the Wesphael Case (2021)
Meh
Dull viewing. A tragic story without any significantly vicarious narrative threads. Spare yourself the indulgence of 2.5hrs of viewing you won't get back.
Servant (2019)
Exhausting Slow and...
Don't bother. Mr Night may think he's a genius but sincerely he's nothing but a one trick pony. This is sadly such an overrated show that lacks any complexity in plot development. It's an linear as Mr Night's creativity. Pass
Ted Lasso (2020)
So very good.
I've just smashed all12 eps in one sitting. Refreshing brilliant. Just watch it
Upright (2019)
Tim Meh
Respectfully I just can't understand why this fella gets so much oxygen. I'm undecided as to whether his acting is just atrocious or pure narcissism, or both. Meanwhile the script and dialogue is forced, at best. Stick to your piano man...pun.
Tehran (2020)
On Point
A great short run series (8 eps). Tightly woven plot through a culture and life, worlds away from mine, as I sit here in the Southern Hemisphere. Looking forward to a second series! Watch it, you won't be disappointed. Truly
