10 to Midnight (1983)
Truly Awful
I remember seeing this movie when I was a child. I won't into the plot or very bad sub plots but, I will say that almost all of the acting in this violent movie is so truly terrible, that words fail me. The killer is played by Gene Davis and, his acting is badly done that I actually laughed at several of his scenes.
I no idea why they cast Gene Davis. Surely there were more talented actors around. There's little if any doubt that he got the part simply by being the brother of Brad (who I also thought was a terrible actor).
I'm actually feel embarrassment for Bronson while watching the movie. It's not unbelievable that a person of his age could be a detective as, many other reviews have said. To me, it's more depressing watching Bronson start to decline in the quality of work he was doing at that time.
This movie would best be enjoyed with a group of friends enjoying some alcoholic beverages... Many of them.
Smiley Face (2007)
Badly written garbage about a genre they obviously knew nothing about.
I saw the title of this movie and read the synopsis. It looked like It might be alright. I do love a good stoner movie. What followed was one of the worst 1 hour and 30 minute movies I have had the displeasure of watching.
As I watched I wondered why they would want to make such a movie. Are they trying to set back marijuana legalization 20 years? How could any producer back this? Why would Anna Farris star in this? I wondered if anyone associated with this movie had ever even smoked weed.
There were so many bad moments in this I do not know where to start or even care to try.
How did the director ever make it this far?
How is this movie getting slightly more than 5 stars???
I will always scratch my head after watching movies this bad. At least it inspired me to write a review, I suppose.
Stay away from this one. I recommend Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke, Nice Dreams, Next Movie, Thing's are Tough All over, or any other well-known and well-liked movie about smoking pot.
This was garbage. Nothing redeeming about it at all. Shame on you Anna.
Land of the Lost (2009)
This movie changed my life!!
I have never seen a movie quite as good as Land of the Lost. I admit I was pretty apprehensive about seeing it, having heard all of the buzz about a possible Oscar nod for my hero, and yours, The Amazing, Fantastic, Mr Will Ferrell!!! I won't go into details about the movie of course, I will say this...
Mr Ferrell's portrayal of Dr Marshall really spoke to me on such a deep and artistic level that I feel as if, I was touched by the hand of God.
I have lived a more fulfilled life having seen it, and can not wait till it's DVD release! I will purchase it on Blu-ray as well!! I urge anyone and everyone with the means to see this movie (at the theater) to rush out and hand out your hard earned cash (or mom and dad's) and see this wonderful addition to the medium of celluloid! 9 stars!!
Nekromantik (1988)
An Attempt at art, gone wrong.
I was like many here, who read about this movie and was dying to see it. I'm just glad that I got it at no expense whatsoever to myself. I am not going to write some long winded review about this obviously twisted attempt at some kind of art.
What it ends up being is an exploitation film of the worst possible caliber. I wonder what was going on in the mind of the director as he was making this film. I use the term "film", very loosely, when writing about this.
Waste of celluloid.
I am still wondering how I managed to sit through the entire viewing. I suppose I wanted to prove to myself, that I could withstand it.
If you're up for very bad cinema. This one is for you... Oh... By the way... DO NOT WATCH IT WITH A DATE!!!
Day of the Dead (2008)
George A Romero Fans....
... Are the people condemning this movie, no doubt. This obviously is a sequel to the remake of Dawn, (04). The characters are likable. The storyline, isn't the best or worst, I've seen. The effects are superb.
Mena Suvari, does a very decent job of carrying this movie. Fast Paced, action oriented. I'm sure Lot's of hungry zombie fans will enjoy this newest re-make in the zombie genre.
I was very pleasantly surprised, while viewing this one. Whilst not the best, certainly not the worst either.
I'll watch it quite a few more times.
I recommend giving it a whirl, before handing out heavy handed judgements against it. Don't be fooled folk's.
A Breed Apart (1984)
Grotesque
I was excited to see a movie with, Powers Booth, Rutger Hauer...AND Kathleen turner??? What I saw was a disgusting pile of trash with hurried synthetic music score, delivered by Maurice Gibb (of the bee gees clan), and the most horrid directing possible.
The film shows, real inhumane treatment of animals. In opening sequences they show piles of real dead birds, obviously freshly hunted.
In another scene, they show a boa constrictor going after, either a parrot, or some type of South American bird. Anyone how knows anything about this part of the world knows that they are more than likely, Mortal enemies.
Trash film, that was hurried out.
Gerry (2002)
With a name like Smuckers...
I had read quite a bit about this movie before I attempted to view it. I thought to myself, "It can't be that bad...after all it's got Matt and Casey"...Goodness gracious... Realizing after about 15 minutes that this was an attempt at either minimalist, or metaphoric film-making. I sat back and watched it intently.
The film consists of long drawn out scenes of the desert, time laps camera techniques, and hardly any dialog. No character development whatsoever. With none of the latter, why even watch this film? It reminded me of "Dead Calm", only the desert was the enemy and Dead Calm is a true masterpiece.
There is no redemption for it, except among the pretentious filmmakers of Sun dance and, here...of course.
I'm not going to defecate all over it and say it was the worst I've ever seen. I suppose I'm glad I had the one viewing. I would never EVER attempt to again, however.
The Secret Garden (1993)
Beautifully Done
My mother used to talk this movie up, all the time. At the time I couldn't have bothered. Childish nonsense, I thought. I wasn't into family films at all. And for the most part, I am still not. It was after my mother died recently, I saw it on HBO. I decided to watch. I was pleasantly surprised. The film is wonderful. It kindles that bit of our inner child that we all possess.
The film is charming and, really does well at telling a family story of tragedy and loss. With the hope of spring and, thing's that grow.
There's a scene where Mary is dreaming where she is a young toddler and is crying for her mother. I was deeply moved.
I now understand why my mother loved this film so much.
Mallrats (1995)
More Garbage From Smith
How anyone finds this tripe entertaining is beyond me. Kevin Smith remains one of those successful people in the movie industry that eludes me as to how they even have a career. I'm so sick of the usual unlikely-dialog in these pathetic attempts to carve a specific niche in cinema. This movie is the same formula as all of his more popular movies... Two losers, waxing philosophic with witty and ponderous segues into comedic hi-jinx. Makes me want to vomit. I've often wondered why his movies are so popular. I think I have it. There must be millions of people like this in the U.S. Lazy good for nothings with the feeling that they are misunderstood geniuses. This has to be the reason why the economy is so poor.
Stay away from this one.
Stay (2005)
Stop Comparing it to Lynch...
It's been bothering me that so many comments here are referring to this movie with "Lynch", in the summary line. It completely unlike Lynch. It's better. It's more tangible than a Lynch film. I didn't see any similarities in a Lynch film either. It's one of the most original motion pictures I've seen in the past decade. And that's saying a lot, believe me.
This movie made me feel a lot of things. I felt so sad for Henry. So much more than sad. I understand the pain he was carrying around with him. This movie isn't for everyone obviously. I would imagine you might have to have some intelligence in order to fully enjoy it's eloquent subtleties.
A must See for "deeper-thinkers"
Tank Girl (1995)
Practically Unwatchable
Why Lori Petty was cast as tank girl, I'll never know. Her acting performance is lack-luster. Her voice is grating. It's almost impossible for me to put into words how bad this movie is.
There are several "modern-pop" references in the film, which I found to be very strange, given that the movie was supposed to take place far in the future. It wouldn't have been hard to make this premise interesting either. Some better writing would have helped loads.
Naomi Watts makes an appearance in it as a mild mannered techno-geek. I think they should have probably switched roles.
I'll never know why anyone would like this movie, unless they were a Petty fan.
Try not to see this movie. Total waste of time.
Clerks (1994)
Total Garbage
I've heard so many good things about this movie that, I just had to see it. What I came away with after viewing it was a bad taste in my mouth.
How can so many people like this piece of garbage? I'll summarize with this... Unlikely dialog, delivered by slack jawed uninteresting losers, who feel life has given them a bad break.
No one talks like they did in the film. I've met a broad spectrum of people from every conceivable profession and, none of them spoke the way the people in this piece-of-crap film do. This movie is so overrated its not even slightly funny.
I do like some other of Kevin Smith's films however. But this is not one of them. I'll never figure out why people hold it in such high regard.
Ghost World (2001)
Excellent Film For Certain Type of Intelligence.
I've noticed that a lot of the people leaving comments, either love this movie, or hate it deeply. This movie is a pretty thoughtful look at what amounts to be a commentary on the boring lives most of us know we're going to live as we get older. The Enid Character is simply attempting to put life decisions off.
The Seymour character, isn't quite as pitiful as I would have liked though. He's nerdy, but nowadays nerdies have grown very popular.
The end leaves something to be desired, but at least they left a really good metaphor to take one's place. If the end leaves you flat, then simply watch it one more time, and the answer will hit you in the face.
