Amazing looking filth
9 September 2022
I expected the Rings of Power would be ineptly written, pretentious, hollow and soulless. Which it turned out to be. But it is also outright foul, smearing filth all over Tolkiens work.

Bad writing, Nonsensical story design wooden acting and silly choreography compete for worst part of the show. All while great CG, beautiful landscapes, the best costumes I have seen in ages and amazing sets desperately try to hide the bad story.

Morfydd Clark playing angry Galadriel would struggle to carry a small town talent show, let alone this show. Her portrayal of Galadriel is constantly angry, berating, impatient, self-centered and lacking the grace and warmth one might expect from a noble elf. Characters make nonsense decisions or ones the audience can't understand for lack of context. They are given dialogue that aims to be grand, deep and epic but turns out only to be pretentious. The story crawl slowly and ineptly through the most beautiful set pieces.

Casting ethnically diverse actors has been talked about enough and I will not enter that discussion here, short for saying that if one wishes to include such actors, one would at least strife to not constantly imply that characters are related by blood who look like they are clearly not, creating a farce.

What was Amazon thinking? Picking two showrunners and writers all with nothing to their name to carry a billion dollar show failed to no surprise.

Should be 1/10 but added one bonus point for beautiful views.

Some well produced nonsense
24 July 2022
Here we go again. It looks amazing. The production quality is among the best there is. The action design is outstanding.

But all this can't hide the fact that it is a nonsense story, inept lazy writing combined with a main cast as suitable to this role as a panda bear would be. Nothing in this movie means anything.

Disappointment
25 September 2021
It looks amazing. The production budget must be huge. The writing budget however was not. The writing is quite bad and the story is simplistic given the premise of the books. The idea to cast a totally inexperienced girl who has barely acted before as lead backfired big time. The romance elements feel very out of place. It is preachy in the worst ways. I haven't read the novels, but this feel very different from the summaries and commentaries I have seen.

My brain hurts so bad
16 May 2021
So this movie features a bunch of teenagers in space in probably the most idiotic nonsensical way to set up a generation ship. The writing is just so bad it makes my brain hurt. The producers probably have taken too much of the blue themselves and then barfed out this disaster of a movie. It's like you eat and barf out Lord of the Flies ten times and then send the vomit out to space. Just watch your washing machine for two hours to get more entertainment. Skip watching Voyagers and watch the 2014 miniseries "Ascension" instead.

Fantastic masterpiece, don't be fooled by bad reviews
11 January 2021
I honestly don't know if the other reviewers maybe saw a different movie. This one is a masterpiece. It's brilliantly shot, Moretz acts her soul out, the cinematography is great. You really feel like you are on this plane. You feel that uneasy claustrophobia sitting in a small turret under a plane. And the movie is refreshing and surprising. With so many movies these days you know what will happen and just wait for it to play out. Here you don't. You watch as the events taking place slowly reveal what is going on and who this character is. Many reviewers trashed the writing, but I think its bloody brilliant. The story just flows naturally without feeling forced. Watching Moretz act her way through this movie is something you don't want to miss.

Better than everyone is saying, not as good as could be
26 December 2020
I just watched WW84 and enjoyed it. I don't know why this movie is dumped on by so many reviewers. A lot of the criticism is valid but it remains an entertaining movie.

You can easily appreciate it for what it is. It is light, entertaining and just popcorn movie. It has a good message and meaning underneath but doesn't want to be heavy or complicated. Yes, it has it's cheesy and silly moments but after all, it is a movie about the 80s - and a certain cheesy and unrefined quality is something that defines this period.

I found the acting quite good overall. The CG is a bit disappointing because it looks too much like CG an can take you out of the experience now and then. The fights are mostly cheesy - however I liked the cheetah fights a lot and they show very well what both characters are about: a more refined and controlled Wonder Woman vs a ferocious and uncontrolled enemy. The characters are sometimes a bit simplistic but the film establishes their motivation very well in my opinion and makes them relatable. The whole thing has okay writing which in these days is really very good and deals with the overall theme of the movie maybe not surprisingly but smart and skillfully.

The whole film is much more focused than the first movie which dealt with far too many element. This one is much simpler. Although it develops a bit slow at first this is for the better in my opinion. You will enjoy this movie if you are a fan of the 80s for sure. If you need it to have deep emotional character acting or overly drawn out CGI fights you will find it lacking though. What takes away from the movie is that the trailer gives away just too much. The whole thing would have been one or two stars more enjoyable without seeing any trailer.

Boring, generic and inept remake
26 September 2020
This show is in itself barely tolerable and compared to the masterpiece original a disaster engineered by inept clueless clowns. The beautiful and original cinematography of the original? Replaced by bland random generic images. The intriguing score of the original? Gone. The show is dull and generic and crawls along in a boring way. It has clumsy exposition, wooden dialogue and a mythology that doesn't make any sense anymore. But most importantly, none of the characters make any sense. I'm okay with them being changed and "americanized". But they are boring and one-dimensional. They lack the depth and uniqueness of the original and are just unimaginative fillers to convey plot. The relationship between Jessica and the group is absurd. Arby is a joke. Did no one with minimal writing experience check this script before it went into production? The production value is great in this show, but it is all wasted. It would have worked if the Fincher deal had worked out, but the showrunner has no talent for this kind of show. She has no idea what she wants to say or how to say it. The show features a very interesting and unique mythology but it doesn't deliver. What a wasted opportunity.

Good premise, but turns out boring
10 February 2020
Sadly, this is a missed opportunity. Taking a good production budget, great actors - including a fabulous Hugh Laurie - and flushing it down the drain. The showrunners need to learn that funny is not the same thing as silly. It is just this sparkly stream of nonsense shallow silliness. Which isn't funny and you just can't get invested in. It is the afternoon-PG-13 equivalent of dick and fart jokes.

Amazing immersive fantasy show
20 December 2019
I feel this is new top show as far as fantasy is concerned. It is everything I have hoped for. It starts with great writing. The dialogue works. The exposition is done very intelligently and feels natural. You never feel a character explains something just for the viewer's sake. Geralt unsurprisingly doesn't talk much, but they have done a great job of juxtaposition him against character who talk at him a lot. The acting is amazing and all of the characters feel real and alive. The visuals are amazing. The show obviously relies heavily on CGI, but it blends in very well. I never looked at something and thought "oh thats CG". The production value is also amazing. I never had the impression that something was missing or shot a certain way because that's just the budget they had. The fight sequences work very well for me. I have done martial arts myself and I have seen a lot of fighting that just look like they do a lot of acrobatics and lazy moves that wouldn't work. Here, although I think they invented a kind of "witcher fighting style", it looks like it could work. It looks real. Nothing is hidden behind shaky cam or thousand cuts. The whole show just works on all levels. Soundtrack is awesome too.

Tedious to watch CGI demo
25 January 2019
A tedious to watch movie that doesn't deserve it's hype.

It's all about CGI here. It looks gorgeous. Bright colors, fantastic design of Atlantis, Subnautica-esque bioluminescence. But it feels shallow. There are a lot of underwater scenes, but they never feel like underwater, they feel like everything is floating in zero-G. Nothing in the water, no cavitation, no resistance, everything flies around in top speed like in a space opera. Nothing has weight or feels physical. The fight scenes are well done but become repetitive quite fast.

The actors do very well, but are battling with a boring cliché script. The dialogue is wooden. The story is riddled with clumsy exposition and pointless McGuffins. The characters never come alive. You never feel for them. They never make any meaningful choice that is not obvious. The characters are sad fillers for an idiots adaptation of the monomyth used as an excuse to show of CGI. The villains are beyond one-dimensional.

This makes the whole thing a waste of very good production quality for a forgettable boring move that feels like fast-forwarding through a B-tier video game.

Great director fails hard with bad story and horrible male lead.
9 December 2017
Well. That was a bad movie.

So I'm a big fan of Mr. Aronowskis work. And I love the genres of mystery, drama and surrealism. Alone and in combination. In this case however, it doesn't work. Maybe Mr. Aronowski has been abducted by aliens and replaced by a clone? This is so far off his other work.

Even though the story is meant allegorically and is presented in a somewhat surrealist way, it's set up in an inept way. It doesn't know what it wants. Whether to be realistic or confusing or surreal. It breaks suspension of disbelief. Many of the lines don't work, don't fit. The dialogue seems out of place, like everyone is just monologuing.

Javier Bardem is a huge disappointing. The is no chemistry between him and Jennifer Lawrence. He is unsympathetic and feels misplaced in the movie. The relationship between them never feels real at any time. His attitude is just not something you want to see for two hours. Maybe as a supporting cast he would have been OK. And wow is that guy ugly. Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer do a good job of acting, but constantly seem at odds with the movie and the dialogue written for them.

The production value, sound, set etc is OK, but everything looks bland. The coloring of the movie is somewhat boring and does not resonate with the story.

The resolution and ending makes sense in some way, but feels odd. I think if you for some strange reason find the movie appealing, you will probably feel that the end is satisfying, but Bardem really tries hard to make it as unpleasant as possible.

This will blow you out of your seats!
6 January 2006
Tony Jaa is the new Star of martial arts. This is Martial Arts like haven't seen it before. Tony Jaa moves fast. precise. incredible. He performs great techniques. He does a lot of elbow and knee techniques. You see them very rarely because few know how to do them properly and it is difficult to show them to the audience as they are so fast. He uses weapons. He breaks bones. You will be astonished by his versatility. Look out for his enemy who is an expert in Capoeira!

In many martial arts movies you see a lot of cuts in the fight scenes. Sometimes several per hit, with a cut concealing the impact. In this movie you see everything. You see incredible long scenes without a cut. Look for it! Look for the one scene where Jaa kicks the {censored!} out of his enemies for three (!) minutes without a single cut! If you've ever done martial arts you might guess how impossible this is.

The story comes second, of course. After all, this is an action movie. It a very simple story of a young Thai man looking for his stolen elephant. Nevertheless, the story is told very beautifully. You will laugh over this character from time to time, but he is always believable.

With a lot of cast and crew we know from "Ong Bak", this one is even better than the great predecessor "Ong Bak". Watch it! It will blow you out of your seats!

i didn't like this one.

the makers of this film couldn't make a decision if they wanted to make a light funny thing, or better a well perceved film about teenagers, girls, sex and love. they couldn't decide if realism or stange mixing of unreal scenes suites the film better. there are some scenes where you might laugh, but the jokes are bought very cheap and lack, well, everything. the whole thing isn't funny. but it isn't touching also. it's nothing.

everything here we have seen, and we have seen it better. remember "crazy"? so do yourself a favor and don't watch this one.

this one is difficult
22 April 2001
is this movie good? i am not really sure about this.

it features several loose cennected storys in mexico and the usa about drugs. about some who sell them, about some who try to prevent this and about some who consume them. to me the film seems very realistic. the actors are good, the music is good. there are beautiful pictures in the film. so one could say it's a good one.

but the point never really gets around. the film ends and nothing has really happened. if you're wanting some tension, action or twisted plot, you won't get it. but if you only want to watch some good shot storys about life and drugs you will enjoy this one.

breathtaking
22 April 2001
watch this one! and watch it in the cinema. i watched it the first time on a computer screen, which has shown out to be a mistake.

princess mononoke is a japanese fantasy manga. it has a very high standard. the artwork is astonishing, it is technical perfect. the movements are smooth and fluent. you hardly notice the use of computer graphic. the music ist great.

our protagonist kills a demon to save his village, but is touched by the demon and must leave to find a cure for his demonic curse. he comes to an old place where gods and spirits roam through a holy forest. they is a war between them and humans who want to cut off the forest and gather ore. he somehow tries to find his way between the frontiers.

the film does not show us the usual moral black/white set of the good guys and the bad guys, a lot of hack and slay and then the good guys winning. all of the characters are developed, and the situation gets very complicated. the holy forest is one the most beatiful settings i've ever seen in a movie. it's not unlikely that you forget to breathe while watching it and its gods.

one of the greatest ever done.

not only for children
22 April 2001
when we watched "momo", there were apart from us only children and a few mothers to move the children about in the cinema. obviously, the "mothers" were paying not very much attention to the film, for it is a "film for children". that is not true, it's a film for any age.

"momo" takes place in a small village in italy. there lives a small girl (momo), who is the most liked and trusted person in the village. one day strange haunty gray men arrive. they visit one villager after the other and steal time from them. the villagers get busy and hectic and have no more time for each other. momo and her friends try to do something about it, but it gets very difficult and dangerous.

the film is well-acted, has a intense atmosphere and good music. beside of that, we can learn a lot from it - expecialy the adults. so watch this film and pay attention.

classic
22 April 2001
well - i suppose we all know this one. and one should have read the book. a great story about the loss of phantasy and imagination in the modern world. about some dream creatures who attempt to prevent the humans from forgetting them.

it is the most expensive german film project of its time. the whole production has a very high standard (especialy as a "film for kids"). i enjoyed watching this one, but i doubt it can hold the level of the book. and the film has a "hollywoodian" ending - this could have been better.

but watch it anyway. watch it also if you're an adult.

good movie
15 March 2001
"american history x" shows us a young boy belonging to americas neo-nazis. the film shows us episodes of the past of this boy, how he got into all this. his brother was jailed for three years for shooting two blacks. now he comes out as a different man and tries to help his little brother out of the scene.

the movie has excellent actors (edward norton is brilliant as the older brother). it is beatiful shot. the flashbacks are in black&white and very impressive. the music is very good - well they did everything well here and created a very good movie.

I'm not from LA (where american history x takes place), and I can not say for sure how realistic the movie is. but I think they tried to make it as realistic as possible, and i suppose they did quite well.

there are some violent scenes in there (but not many), so if you cannot handle violence in movies, this is perhaps nothing for you.

fine movie
9 March 2001
of course, it is not really necessary to say that the film is good, as it is a charlie chaplin film.

chaplin plays a tramp in this movie. he aquires a very rich friend, who only remembers him when he is drunken, and meets "the beautiful girl", who happen to be blind.

the film has a lot of slapstick and comedy and is definetly not one of his more serious films. chaplin shows (here) a great ability to laugh and make fun of himself.

do not expect to much serious stuff here, although some scenees are very touching. do expect to laugh a lot.

good movie
2 March 2001
a movie about a joung german boy who doesn't know where he belongs. he leaves home and meets a neo-nazi, a girl and later a punk. he adopts habits and opinions very fast, but finding out what he really wants turn out to be difficult.

there are a lot of very strange but nevertheless quite realistic characters in the movie, and they all scare you in a different way - even the boring parents who lost any grasp of reality.

the film is black&white, with a lot of beautiful images. but i think some of the motives have only made it into the film 'cause they were beauty, not 'cause they had to do a lot with it. a good film, i recommend watching it.

it seems that the film has really shaken the scene in some cities, i know there were some fights between skins and punks in cinemas in düsseldorf (germany), with a damaged cinema.
