Lel Maout (2021)
Glamour, luxe and true love
Wow. This show is glamorous and luxe, and absolutely stunning in every way. I JUST LOVE the acting. High quality storyline, intriguing plot, and beautiful cast. It manages to weave hard-hitting storylines about the realities of Lebanon into a thrilling and unusual drama. The juxtaposition of rich and poor is astounding. Most of all, it is a portrayal of true love, and the truth of life that you can't choose who you love. The Arabs have a saying, "the heart wants what it wants". No matter what.
The two female leads, Reem and Sahar, complement each other amazingly and are played by incredibly talented actresses. Just a treat to watch, and the male lead, Hadi, has the most loving, heart-wrenching eyes you could ever imagine.
I will say that you have to watch season 2, it is more gritty and the plot gets very dark and twisted. It is worth seeing how the story weaves together and unravels. The story is passionate, tragic, intense, and speaks of great love, loyalty, war, betrayal and revenge.it is deeply human and speaks to the stories buried within all of our psyches.
Luckiest Girl Alive (2022)
An important movie - a feminist movie
This is an important movie, I didn't know what to expect and I have to say I'm very impressed. Bravo to Mila Kunis for portraying a role that surely many women must go through, suppressing trauma from the past. The story depicts how events at high school can haunt both victim and perpetrator alike.
This is a story of a woman getting justice and finding healing, and bringing healing to other women. It shows that a life designed to mask and conceal the truth leaves you screaming for authenticity. For too long have these issues been minimised even in the Western world which is supposed to be free and equal. Timely and honest.
Gods of Egypt (2016)
Completely mangled story that makes no sense
The story is blatantly wrong. Set murders his brother Osiris before Horus is born. Isis puts the pieces of him back together and restores him to life with magic. Them they conceive Horus. Osiris dies again and becomes Lord of the Underworld. While Set wants to kill the young Horus, Isis hides him in the marshlands until he is grown and can finally seize the throne from Set.
This is utter nonsense. They shouldn't mess with such a powerful story. They have taken out the Isis magic which is the most powerful magic of all.
Atiye (2019)
Most beautiful soul stirring mystery
I can't explain how much I love this series. To me, this is the best thing I've seen in years. It contains elevated spiritual concepts and universal truths that are rarely seen in movies. It soo though provoking and soul stirring! It is not always perfectly executed, but hey. For me that does not detract from the rawness of its brilliance.
The first season stands alone as a brilliant story and beautiful piece of art. It is everything you could want from a mystery story. The mystical symbol - the passionate artist some think is mad - the sacred site - the forces of nature - the love story - the tense climax - and ones inescapable destiny.
The second season I loved, it examines the question of "what if" I made a different choice, "what if" that choice was self-serving, what would the consequences be? The feeling of being lost and adrift is all pervasive, and touched something very deep in me. I did not think it was nonsense at all.
The third season has received a lot of criticism - I have to say, I love it! The people who dislike this season simply "don't get it". Keep up guys! It's like the Matrix on acid. The quantum truths it contains mean nothing is as it's expected to be. Finally, a mystery that keeps you on your toes, is unpredictable, and timeless in its messages. The pine cone means something very specific. Are you Awake??
To all involved in Atiye - the Gift: thank you. I love you! This has me questioning reality on a very deep level. Watch it if you dare...
