The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Boring
This is the most boring movie. It is suppose to be a comedy and there are not more than a couple of OK one liners. For a comedy that is 2 hours long I would think that they could actually stick in some humor. I love off the beaten track comedies but I guess I just didn't get this one. I thought the idea sounded funny but they didn't go anywhere with it. There are a lot more serious moments than funny ones in my opinion. I hope Bill Murray can actually find a funny script soon. I am not surprised this did not do well at all at the box office. In my city the movie was gone in 2 weeks. I thought it was just because the other movies out at the time just had more publicity/good reviews. No offense to people who liked it but I just can't see why.
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
Boy are we in trouble
When I rented this film, I did not support Bush, I suspected many of the things covered in this shocking documentary. The facts covered where so shocking that I could not believe how MANY Americans have turned a blind eye to such obvious things and still support Bush. The glaring facts are astounding of what has and is happening to our country. When Michael Moore proclaimed at the Oscars that the president had gotten us into "a fictitious war", I did not quite know what he meant....Now I can't believe how ignorant I was. This film is not just telling you why Bush should not be re-elected, its informing you on what we are already in and just how deep.
28 Days Later... (2002)
Realistic Horror Film
This movie is one of the most believable horror stories I've ever seen. The basis of the plot could very possibly happen. The actors portray their characters so well its hard to believe they are actors. Its easy to sympathize with them. After seeing the alternate ending (shown after the credits) I am so glad they kept the ending they did. Its a thrilling picture that you can watch over and over again.
Black Books (2000)
Funniest show ever
"Black Books" is hysterical and one can easily watch each episode over and over and over again and laugh just as hard. All the actors are very authentic which makes it so funny. If you haven't seen it, try to. Otherwise you're really missing out.
Platoon (1986)
Breath taking
This film left me staring into space long after I had finished it. It was so realistic and heartbreaking it gave me chills. Never was there more heart in a film such as this, I felt the characters really existed, not actors playing them. Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger are excellent and Willem Dafoe is simply perfect. I think he was robbed when he didn't win the Academy Award for his nomination of best supporting actor for this film. An absolute must see, even if you're not a fan of the genre.
Spider-Man (2002)
Great Acting
The casting for this movie was so well done I can't believe it. Tobey Maguire is perfect in the role of Peter Parker/Spiderman. Willem Dafoe is absolutely wonderful as Norman Osborne/Green Goblin. He brings the perfect edge and conflict that the character needs as well as the sensitivity. Both actors also bring the correct wit to their characters. Effects are very well done. Go and see this awesome piece of cinematic history!
