Otro ladrillo en la pared (2004)
Funny and original
This movie tells the story of a man who wanted to be a luchador, but instead, he built houses, adding bricks to them, of course. He and his partner, a champion dancer of a make up rhythm called "Camarena", discover a group of freaks calling from the death, an Engenieer and his constructors, to find a treasure. The deads come from the ground. The builders and the freaks begin to fight against the zombies, and suddenly the anguish of the encounter, becomes a really funny sequence of heroism and achievement. Besides, it has really great references to classic zombie movies, as the name of the engineer is "Romero", and other details you gotta discover by yourselves. It was selected as the Best Horror Film in London and Congo Festivals, and had a good reception in movie film fests.
Tres veces mojado (1989)
Is the story of a young man form Salvador who wants to get to USA, but firts he will find trouble both Guatemala and Mexico.
Is a very good movie with a strong acting of Mario Almada in a supporting role as Fortino, the good Mexican family guy who receives a homeless and desperate pair of Salavadorenians in his home, with his family, in order to help them to save money and go to the US. In the leading role is Jorge Hernández, leader of Los Tigres del Norte. Is a good story about immigration, but with the special touch of the guy from Salvador. That's why the movie is "Three Times Wetback", because he had to pass two countries before the US. The plot is believable and the characters could be any poor guy from real life. Besides, there's always the hope of success to the good and working men. Mario Almada is wonderful in his role.
El extraño hijo del Sheriff (1986)
Better than any American "scary movie"
When I watched this movie the first time, I didn't sleep for a week, I was 15, not very young, but enough to felt terrified by a diabolical siameses and a "towny" father, the Sheriff, which believed that the Devil was inside his sons and decided to open them "a la brava", in a little cabana where the doctor had to perform the surgery with no surgical tools but a knife. Mario Almada makes you feel impotence when he tries to convince the Sheriff (Erick del Castillo) to desist; but the ignorance of the Mexican town people is stronger. So, one of the kids die, but he comes back as a diabolical phantom to take back his death. The end is very awful but has a message: Never underestimate a different person.
