Right in Front of Me (2021)
Comfort Hallmark movie found
I really loved this one! I admit I was in it for Janel Parrish & she was great. The chemistry between her & Marco Grazzini was so strong & they were so cute. The setting is gorgeous and who doesn't love it when food is involved. I also loved the little hints of Filipino food in the dishes Nick makes & I'm so glad the plot had him make those dishes. I love that despite the Hallmark romance tropes, the friendship between Carly & Nick was so fun to watch develop into more.
Big Time Rush (2009)
Enjoyed it then, enjoying it more now!
When Big Time Rush first came out, I was about 14/15 & I loved watching it. It also helps that the boys are so cute, funny, & so talented. I really only remember the first 2 seasons as I started to wane off kid centric shows when I was 16 & also got into other musical groups (mainly One Direction & The Wanted). Flash forward to 2021 when Netflix streams it & I am in love with the show even more now. The boys are still so cute, funny, & talented & I appreciate them more now. I'm a little late & I can't stop listening to BTR songs. The series does overuse comedic sound effects that it does become distracting & everyone is so on point that it's really not needed. Other than that, BTR is one of the best Nickelodeon shows of the late 00's - early 10's.
Jane the Virgin (2014)
After all, this is a telenovela. . .
This will forever be one of my favorite television shows. I've always wanted to be a writer, but Jane the Virgin made me fall in love with television. So, because of this show, I want to write for television. The premise can, at first, be perceived as silly but it's so smart in using this to throw in some cheekiness about the ridiculousness of the show.
Despite the constant twists & turns that can happen all in one episode, there is so much heart in this show. The Villanueva women keep the show grounded with their love & bond with each other. My favorite scenes are the emotional talks on the porch swing. These are always where the heart of the show shines through. There are some hilarious moments and great antagonists.
One of my favorite things is Petra's arc. She starts as the foil to Jane & a romantic rival for Rafael, but then she becomes one of the best characters of the show. Her relationships with Jane & Rafael become such strong points in the later seasons. It warms my heart every time I think about it.
This show is definitely one of those I'll watch over & over again. It takes some commitment but that's the beauty of streaming. I know one day soon, I'll get the DVD box set.
Julie and the Phantoms (2020)
Incredible songs & I can't stop watching it!
I'm pretty much obsessed with Julie & the Phantoms! The songs are so great & catchy. Even though the show has its comedic moments, there is one scene/song in particular that had me crying til about 4am. Anyway, I am on my third rewatch of the show & each time, I fall deeper in love with it. The characters are so great, especially our main four.
For an undiscovered talent, Madison Reyes leads the show with such strength and heart as Julie. Her talent is unmatched & I hope to see her in more things. As for the titular "Phantoms", those boys are adorable! Charlie Gillespie is total leading man material as Luke with his puppy dog eyes and a voice of an angel. Owen Patrick Joyner has a charm that is unmatched as Alex, the levelheaded drummer, who also has the best lines that are delivered so well. And last, but not least is Jeremy Shada who plays Reggie, the lovable bass player, who is the best person to have by your side.
With this being a Kenny Ortega project, we have some familiar faces that help elevate the story even more. If you've seen all 3 Descendants movies then you're probably familiar with Booboo Stewart, Cheyenne Jackson, and Jadah Marie.
Undrafted (2016)
Came for the actors, stayed for the heart
I will admit that I initially wanted to watch this movie purely for the actors. I mean you have Aaron Tveit, Tyler Hoechlin, Chace Crawford, Manny Montana, and Joe Mazzello. I've been following their careers and seeing them all in this movie was the best thing ever. And you can tell they all had a great time making this movie and playing baseball.
This movie is honestly one of my favorites and I was very excited when it finally was released. I enjoy watching it. It's hilarious and it has so much heart. I love that each of the players on D-Backs (the main team in the movie) has their own quirks that make them stand out in a stellar cast. Besides the names I've mentioned above, I recognized majority of the main cast in other projects and it was a "oh hey! he's in this!" for the first half of the movie.
I love that the whole movie is this one game on a disappointing day for all of them, not just Aaron Tveit's Maz. The whole team feels it and expresses it quite often in the film how good of player he is, but they also talk about why he probably wasn't picked. There are some great moments in this movie with so much heart. The team quarrels and are at odds with each other throughout the movie but they come together at the end and forgive each other. One of my favorite scenes consist of a passionate debate on which Backstreet Boy is the best. Hint hint, it's totally Brian.
