Pedro + Tony? (2002)
dog + chicken?
"Pedro + Tony?" is a charming tale about an interracial gay couple, which consists of a dog and a chicken, and their struggle to work through their differences and resolve personality conflicts. The animation is very fluid and expressive, and the film won many awards, including the Best Animation Prize at the Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival in 2000.
The film opens with a humorous exchange of text messaging, and includes a few other scenes of 2d animation, though most of the film is stop motion. The dialogue is "purely nonfictional" and is based on the director's own relationship.
Pink Komkommer (1991)
bizarre, but fascinating
Marv Newland of "Bambi Meets Godzilla" fame puts together a group of animators who all do their own short interpretations of the same soundtrack, which are assembled into a series of "dreams". There is great variation of style and medium, and it is equally interesting to see the various interpretations of the same sound effects. That said, most of the interpretations are rather, err, adult in nature, so this is definitely not a kids' cartoon.
