Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Less than what I expected, but decent overall
I have some familiarity with the FNAF franchise. I have kids at the right age to be into it. I even read a few creepypasta stories about the characters because as a whole, it's an interesting concept. All of the stories pretty much ended the same way - main character/narrator ends up stuffed into an animatronic suit - Not quite what happens here (the guy in the suit at the end isn't exactly a main character)
Movie as a whole wasn't terrible. The kids - 13 and 17 respectively - liked it. I liked it. Although the ending was super predictable, the trip to get there was decent. The dialogue felt clunky at times as well as expositional as hell, occasionally boring. But again, decent enough if you watch as a fan.
The (non-human) characters themselves look like they're pulled straight from the games and that's great. True to the source. Impressive work on the puppetry.
Overall it was decent, but not even close to what the hype and expectations were leading to. I liked it enough, but probably won't go out of my way to see it again.

You learn something new every day
Oh, don't get me wrong, there's nothing to learn from the plot of this show in general, just that the characters of a show don't need to be decent for the story to be interesting.
Seriously, not one single character has one single redeemable feature. Every single one is a terrible person. Imagine a TV series where every character is a slightly worse version of Rebel Wilson's character from Pitch Perfect.
For the first time ever, I finished binging a show solely based upon the plot. Admittedly, it took me about two or three episodes to realise that every character was a terrible person. Phoebe, Sasika and the American one (not really worth remembering the name) are probably the worst of the lot, even if one of them was absent for a few episodes.
Story-wise, it's a four star show. But having Caitlyn Stasey and Emily Browning in the cast added two more stars.
If you watch it, don't expect to finish it liking any of the characters themselves.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Oh yay.
Another Star Wars spin-off. Disney REALLY wants to keep this franchise churning out cash. Same with Marvel.
Not bad, not terrible. I'm not going to lie, I have very minimal enthusiasm for most Star Wars things. But seeing as how we're only one episode in, I'll remain neutral on this. I'll watch the others, but I might wait until either the whole season is out or at least 3-4 episodes. I'll update my review then when I've had a few more eps.
Watch this space!
Chucky (2021)
People seem to be forgetting something about Chucky
Notice that the negative reviews are all whining about "wokeness"?
It's almost like the second that a characters sexuality was mentioned, the straight men cried out in anger!
You realise that Chucky has a trans kid, right?
It's part of the canon.
Sure, it's from the second-worst movie of the series, but it's still a fact.
Are people REALLY that upset about a gay character or two that they'll slam a whole show?
"He might as well be black and trans" says the phobic racist.. Pathetic.
Anyway, onto my review: great cast, great acting, great story. Over the top kills (the one that we saw anyway) and all combined, it's definitely a series that I can't wait to see through to the end!
The Moth Effect (2021)
Each star is for a time I genuinely laughed (plus one for the cameos)
Took me three tries over a two weeks to get through the first episode.
I love absurdist comedy.
I love sketch comedy.
I love Aussie comedy!
This combines all three, but I don't love it.
Girls5eva (2021)
Seen it before
The concept has been done before in a 2006 Australian movie called BoyTown.
This is just an attempt to stretch the gimmick into a series.
A chuckle or two here and there, but all-around lame. If it were a movie, fine. But how do they expect the gimmick to last over a whole series?
If it was a mini mockumentary-style series, it would probably work well. But a proper sitcom series, no.
Rugrats (2021)
Great show for kids. Adults don't need to enjoy it.
For the 30+ year olds complaining, this isn't your show any more. Hasn't been for nearly 20 years (depending how far north of 30 you are).
It's an excellent show for kids! Mine love it.
Bright, fun colours. Lots of action and all the good stuff to keep them watching while I get some chores done.
If you don't want your kids to watch this one and want to force them to watch the same one you grew up on, get Paramoun+ or whatever streaming service has it in your area. Lame thing to do, but whatever. Your choice (though it really should be the kids decision which version they want to watch)
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Crazy Ridiculous Fun
I see the armchair critics and nostalgia hounds are taking this WAY too seriously..
1) Did you really expect Schindler's List or something? It's an NBA star playing basketball with the Looney Tunes. It is what it is.
2) The first movie wasn't anywhere near to being the cinematic masterpiece that people think it was.
But nostalgia makes things look shinier than they were, so meh..
It was essentially an extended Nike commercial/self-fellating Michael Jordan adventure.
3) If you go in expecting the first movie, you'll be disappointed. Don't expect spectacular acting either. Again, it's good for what it is.
If you go in with the very simple "Well, it's just a kids movie, so it's gonna be simple, goofy fun." Then that's what you'll see.
It's still strange to me, seeing grown adults panning a kids movie, as though they're the target demographic. 20 years ago, sure. Your opinion on a movie like this was way more relevant. Not now.
It's like a kid reviewing Grey's Anatomy or something. They're gonna think it sucks because they're not the core audience.
Legend of Frosty the Snowman (2005)
Watery trash. Put this Snowman out in the hot sun.
I love the original Frosty movies, but why did they turn Frosty into Patrick Star?
I know they share a voice actor, but that doesn't mean the writers had to make Frosty so dull-minded and stupid.
It was so awful, I barely made it through. General curiosity had me start it. Morbid curiosity had me suffering through it.
