Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Olivia Wilde, the man hating prostitute
Actually, I kinda liked this movie. Pretty well acted. I liked the esthetics. The whole thing being a VR stint was a bit of a let down, I thought it was going to be something more but still I enjoyed it to an extent. Of course Olivia Wilde would make a movie like this. A man hating film. And saying that the antagonist, Jack, is based on Jordan Peterson, an international hero for men and women, is mentally psychotic. Which begs the question, can a psychotic make a good movie? The answer is... seems so. It's a shame she's psychotic. Even Florence doesn't liker her. It's no wonder. The director is trash. Movie not too bad.
The White Tiger (2021)
Wrong message? Yes, obviously.
In and of itself it's an alright movie. However, the message is a joke. The main message of the film is that the only way to get ahead is crime or politics. I don't know that much about India, maybe it's true there, but in general that's the biggest joke. I get it, the caste system is bad. Ok... so... what're are you going to do about it? The movie says the right thing to do is play the victim. Don't take responsibility and work hard to overcome your barriers. Just be a loser because the only way to get ahead is crime or politics. So nobody smart and hard working can get ahead? And if they do they don't deserve to get ahead? Nobody at all? They're all lucky or connected and corrupt. All 100% of them? Really? The movie doesn't even try to hide the fact that it's pro-communist. The entire plot is the main character writing an e-mail to a Chinese leader! The CCP, the apitame of freedom and goodwill right? So much economic freedom and freedom of speech in China and such a clean environment. Air and water is pristine. That is what China is known for right? LOL. Oh my god. The movie sucks up to China like a desperate goupie. There's more. Apparently the time of the white man is done (as if all white men are the devil) and the time of the brown and yellow man has come. Oh and guess what guys? You're making a movie denouncing a system which you rely on for the success of your film! I'm not saying capitalism is great. But you really want communism? So what exactly? you want to be like China? or you want democratic commnism? Who is going to lead? You? The same corrupt psychopaths that are leading now? Who is going to keep the leaders in line? And a million ore questions which you didn't think of asking. Or you don't care because you're paid for by the CCP. You're not fooling anyone.
Sound of Metal (2019)
Best movie of the 2020
I wasn't sure what to expect with this but it really surprised me. There's a lot of tear-jerking videos on youtube of deaf people getting implants and hearing for the first time. Often they say it sounds "mechanical". This movie tries to convey what it actually sounds like. Great use of sound in general as well. Great acting. Great story. Just great. As of right now, this movie is underrated on IMDB. It needs to be in the top 250. It's the best movie of 2020. I hope this director directs more things. Congratulations.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
Mostly cringe.
There were some funny moments but the movie as a whole wasn't nearly as funny as the first. The basic story takes what would've been a few jokes about the mistreatment of women in Borat's country previously and makes it a running gag that goes ridiculously far with it. Relies too much on gross out humor. Hard to watch at times. It wasn't even that successful in political figure-damning. At least not how I expected it to be. Not really quotable or re-watchable.
Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind (2020)
DNA altered beasts
What I don't understand is, if, like Greer says, the DNA altered humans are actually jealous of his freedom, why don't they just kill themselves? Then they'd be free of the burdens of the physical world. Right?
The Irishman (2019)
Enjoyable
Again, like Once Upon a time in Hollywood before it, despite the relatively slow burn I found myself intrigued throughout wanting to know what happens next. These two double features may be one of the last classic style hollywood films ever. It's sad. Recommend.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
In all honesty, I enjoyed it
Hollywood vs the hippies.
With conflicting reviews I wasn't expecting that much but it turns out, despite the relatively slow burn, it was entertaining. The dialogue itself didn't blow my mind or anything but the way much of it was said was in this naturalistic, early Tarantino way not seen since Jackie Brown or Linklater's Boyhood; as opposed to overly-cool... which I liked. I found myself interested in what was going to happen next. The Bruce Lee scene didn't even bother me really. It was funny... and you know, maybe Bruce Lee was too full of himself. He didn't really win many tournaments. So...I dunno..
I kinda had an issue with the ending. Hollywood vs the hippies. Ok, so maybe there were some "crazy hippies" but I wouldn't consider the Manson clan or the like real hippies. There was a genuine movement of peace and love and the legend goes, it was the psychopaths that started spiking the LSD for bad trips which ruined the movement. No idea how true that is, but wouldn't be surprised. Regardless it was still entertaining.
