Agnes Moorehead...

I would rate this as the best performance of her life - and she never says a word! Incredible work by her.

Just dreadful.

Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand all the hype about this movie. Spoiler alert. The music was good, but that is all the movie had going for it. Just a mishmash of scenes, terrible ending, neither star could sing, acting was OK, but certainly nothing to get an Oscar for. Emma Stone deserved an Oscar for " The Help", but not for this mess. I love movies, but this was painful to watch. 13 Oscar nominations? Insane.

Stupid, boring movie.

Warning: Spoilers
Talk talk talk, kill a guy. Talk some more, kill a guy. Talk some more, kill a guy. The end. DUMB! One of the worst movies I have seen in years. Lots of weird camera tricks, bright blurry scenes of nothing, slow motion heads exploding, blood spattering, "F**K" about every other word. No women in this movie, except a hooker who says about three words. Definitely not a "Good Fellas". Worse than "No country for old men" - at least that was interesting until it just stopped in the middle of the movie. Great actors totally wasted in this movie. I damn near walked out on this one, which I have only done in one other movie. What a waste of time and talent. I want my money and time back!

Dumb...
16 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie had one of the dumbest plots I have ever seen...spoiler alert..an undefeated boxer runs out of the ring at the start of the championship fight because he has a scar on the top of his head and is afraid somebody might see it...dumb,dumb,dumb. Good stars, wasted in this film. Leslie Caron is doing ballet on top of a bar at a New Orleans dive - very unlikely. She is French, but her father is Italian? Gilbert Roland (who is one of my favorite stars) just wanders around with nothing to do in this picture. Even Louis Armstrong is wasted in this film. He plays a little trumpet and sings a couple of very unremarkable songs. The battle scene (which lasts about 30 seconds) in Korea takes place in what looks like a Douglas Fir forest. I don't think they have any of those in Korea. The whole thing doesn't make any sense.

Great, if you like 1/2 of a movie, with no ending...
26 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of this movie was great! Suspenseful, well acted, etc. Just as I was getting really fired up for the ending, the movie stopped, just STOPPED. Everyone in the audience was going "WTF?". What the hell just happened? I cannot believe the critics gave this a good review, nor can I believe the users are giving it such a high score. Towards the end, there are some characters that come into the movie, then disappear, and you have no idea who they are or why they are in the movie. And what the heck was Woody Harrelson's character there for? It could have been such a good movie, if it just hadn't stopped in the middle.

I loved it.

No long comment here. I just thought it was a great movie. A lot if intrigue and plot twists, and of course, Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas were well matched as lovers. There was a lot more to this movie than just the sex scenes. 10/10.

Shirley as Madam Butterfly will tear your heart out.
5 June 2003
Most of this movie is a regular romantic comedy with some excellent stars. But the end of the movie, where Shirley plays the death scene from Madam Butterfly, will make you weep. I first saw this when I was in the military, and had never seen Madam Butterfly. After seeing this movie, I went to the opera to see the full opera, and it has become my favorite. Having seen the death scene many times in my life, Shirley's performance still ranks up there with the best.

One of the best movies I have ever seen.

This movie has it all. Riveting plot, sharp editing, fantastic soundtrack, good acting, and special effects that are so good that you don't realize that they are special effects (the recreation of 1937 Los Angeles). There have been comparisons to The Matrix...The Matrix was all special effects and little else. This movie grabs your heart and soul and takes it for a very thought-provoking ride. It is NOT a rip-off of the Matrix, since it is based on a novel written many years ago, and was in production long before the Matrix was released. Absolutely one of my all time favorites.
