Spirited (2022)
Ugh! Wish this WASN'T A Musical!
I started watching this movie with high hopes because it wasn't a Hallmark Christmas Movie AND because for a new Christmas movie, it had decent ratings on here. However unfortunately the musical aspect of the movie just completely ruined it for me. The story line (from the first 30-45 minutes of it that I saw) was promising, and could've had great potential even if this movie was just a "regular movie," not a musical. But unfortunately the musical aspect of it ruined it for me and made the story line & movie too "choppy" for my liking. It's unfortunate because as a society were LONG OVERDUE for a GOOD (read: aka DECENT), General (read: aka NOT a Hallmark one) Holiday/Christmas movie!
The Mission (2023)
Horribly Boring AND SLOW Documentary
Years ago I aptly proclaimed that I was/am, and aptly gave myself the title of a, 'Documentary Nerd.' I honestly cannot think of a documentary that I've absolutely hated, nor have I ever not finished a documentary in its entirety...until this one! And my thoughts, feelings, rating, and review of this documentary have absolutely nothing to do with any religious, nor societal/sociological "right or wrong" points of view. They are, and it is, just what it is: This documentary was horribly boring and slow! Painfully so! I've sat in college trigonometry based physics lectures (as a NON-SCIENCE major!) after working a 12.5 hour overnight/night shift that held my attention more than this documentary (and that is saying A LOT!). Dull! Dry! Boring! And the information that was presented in it was so haphazardly thrown together and strewn about it was unbelievable! Adding to that, the director of the documentary couldn't seem to decide just what direction he wanted to go with this documentary, the underlying feeling that he was trying to achieve (ie. Touchy feely, or factually based). I sought high and low for this documentary after learning about it, hoping that it just happened to be including on one of my many streaming subscriptions and I was so excited when I found it on one of them that I instantly started watching it (or trying to watch it rather). Only to be horribly dismayed at how such an interesting story with so, so, so much documentary, and even feature film, potential was handled with such callous ineptitude and thus was subsequently destroyed.
LIFE·LOVE·DOGS (2019)
Definitely NOT What I Was Expecting NOT In A Good Way
I thought that this movie was going to be a GENERAL documentary on Dogs and the various roles that they may play in our lives, and the impact on their presence or lack of presence in our lives. And to achieve this, of course I thought that there would be small snippets of personal stories illustrating the data & information that was presented. HOWEVER this documentary was nothing more than a really focused AND really, really, REALLY in depth handful of individuals' personal stories. Which there is nothing wrong with that except that's not what this documentary is purporting itself to be. What this method of documentary film making turned in to being was basically was basically like individual local news "features," or feature stories on the handful of people were included in, and made up the documentary.
MK Ultra (2022)
Uuuggghhhh NNNNOOO!
A topic for a movie, with so, so, SO much potential, yet this movie fell an entire universe short of even scraping the very top of that potential. Dull, and disjointed that make it EXTREMELY difficult to watch. I also found this movie to be really narrowly focused. In fact, I do not feel that this movie is about the CIA's Experimentations at all; that was just the underpinning to the plot. Rather this movie was really just about a psychiatrist's personal inner struggles, morals, and ethics, and that is what made this movie so narrowly focused on the topic, and not in a good way. I was expecting (and hoping for) another 'Chernobyl' like production, but alas that is what this film is most definitely NOT (unfortunately)! Also, the cinematography in the ending scene (of the "actual movie," not the real life news reports) was horrible! So bad that it was rivals old, old movies such as 'Frankenstein,' and even 'The Birds' (both of who's the cinematography was to be expected for each of those movies' respective time period). I found it funny how at the very end of the movie, right before the credits started to run, the title of the movie, 'MK Ultra' is shown large enough to take up the entire screen, and then just under it the filmmaker/director made sure to put his final stamp in the movie and include his name, 'A Joseph Sorrentino Film;' if I were this film's filmmaker/director, I wouldn't want to be claiming this abysmal film. Hey maybe we can hope that now after this movie has come out, and thus the topic of the CIA's Experimentations has been brought forth, maybe another filmmaker/director will create his/her own version of the topic in a movie, or even in a mini series, format, much like what happened to the "Roadside Zoos/Tiger King topics" that began proliferating into different versions, formats, parts after the release of, and the tremendous success achieved, of the "First" Tiger King film production. But however unlike Tiger King, hopefully any future renditions or spin-offs of this film's intended topic will be much, much better than all of the Tiger King spin-off were, AND much better than this film. They need to get the production team that is responsible for the mini series 'Chernobyl' to do a reboot of this film!
Assault on VA-33 (2021)
So Much Potential!
The title of this movie, 'Assault On VA-33,' is what the title to a pretty decent movie would be. Wwwweeelll, the only single thing in this entire movie that had any potential...or heck, that even had any real substance...was it's title! It's too bad that this movie was so absolutely atrocious because it's title makes the movie sound as though something is there, but trust me, there's not. What a waste of a decent movie title! Had the directors, producers, and screenwriters even halfway tried with this movie, it could've been a pretty decent movie (or at least an 'okay one'). While I'm not some absolute movie junkie and historian, I personally can't think of any other movies who's primary location/setting was in a VA Hospital, so the location/setting was original and thus garnered a nice amount of attention had it been even halfway decent.
Senior Year (2022)
Unwatchable
I'm someone who literally always gives movies a chance, watching them through their entirety no matter how painful they may be. However recently, there have been two movies that I just absolutely could not torture myself, and force myself to continue to sit through and watch. There have only been two movies ever that I couldn't watch through to the end. This was one of them [the other was 'Memory' with Liam Neeson.). Ever heard of the adjective "juvenile humor?" Well this was "infant humor" then. That's just how stupid this movie was (or beyond stupid. And I do not mean stupid in an endearing way at all.). The supposed "humor" in this movie really can not, and should not, even be called "humor," because it missed any semblance of the "humor" title by a long shot...a very, very, very long shot. There was not a single instance during the entire chunk of this movie that I did watch that caused me to chuckle, nor even giggle a little. The attempt at humor, and/or dumb humor in this movie is so awful, that no high schooler, nor even middle schooler, and possibly not even older elementary school age children would even find this movie funny. And of course Rebel Wilson once again played her very character and very typical character in this movie once again. She has absolutely no range! Has she ever been in a movie in which she played a different role than her typical character? A serious role? An even slightly serious role (They may potentially be one movie that she played a serious or somewhat serious role in...maybe. I'm not sure if she was the actress in the particular movie that I'm thinking about, and no I cannot remember the name of the movie. The role that in the movie that I'm thinking about, if she was indeed in fact that actress in this particular movie that I'm thinking about, then she was an alcohol sales rep in the movie.). My advice on this movie: save yourself the time and the disappointment and pass on this one.
