Brilliant!
17 March 2008
There is no other word to describe Holmes - Watson Duo other than BRILLIANT!!! Jeremy Brett---The best Holmes ever! Just Scintillating as the greatest, most loved and congenial detective of all time. David Burke---Great Watson! Brilliant acting , brilliant picturisation. I just love watching the Sherlock Holmes series The Way Brett plays Holmes is amazing! That spark in his eyes, that sheer Drama in his presentation! He plays Holmes to the T! His way of delivering those Sherlockian Punch lines is just out of the world! Burke ably supports Brett as the beloved Sidekick Watson. Entertaining and gripping to the Core. No one matches the Great Holmes Watson Duo!

Eragon (2006)
3/10
give it a miss
6 September 2007
well, when I read Paolini's Eragon, I was absolutely stumped by his genius...the way he enthralls you with the magnificence of his plot, writing and characters. Pure Magic

Sadly, the same cannot be said for The Movie Eragon. those who have read the book will be tad disappointed as it doesn't do justice to the book at all. those who haven't read the book aren't gonna make head and tale out of it. In the book , it was all done maginificently and engrossingly. he movie is an hour n half long but I dunno what the hurry was about?! The plot was changed and Brom ended up killing a Raza'c which doesn't happen in book 1, n Arya is too tall doesn't look like n elf, Murtagh is there for just two scenes or so, None of Eragon's adventures with Brom in the many cities they go are shown, at the end Eragon heals Saphira(That was the ultimate doom man!!!!)

The acting is good thank god but major credit goes to Jeremy Irpns who does a fine job as Brom. I have indeed imagined a much older man---Kind of a Dumbledore like man...But still Irons did a great job as Brom and its thanks to him I sat through the movie. His acting is remarkable.

Nishabd (2007)

A masterpiece in its own way
20 May 2007
Nishabd is a masterpiece in its own way. Due to its unconventional theme was slammed by the audience but as a film, it stands on strong ground. Mature, sensitive and sensible. A love story shown realistically with all restrictions thrown right at your face. Only a mature film-goer will accept this film. Splendid cinematography-The close-ups are magnificent. The way the camera captures each and every expression of the lead actors needs to be given standing ovations.Same goes for the Background score-brilliant. One of the best I have heard in many years. Performances-Newcomers Jia and Shraddha deliver superb performances and so does Revathy. Amitabh-what can I say about this man? I am out of words because whatever I say will not be sufficient to describe this one. Is this a performance?? I felt he was living he character. I haven't seen him perform so realistically before. He has always been realistic but Nishabd I feel saw the best in him.the darker parts of his personality. Is there anything he cant do? This has to be Big b's finest performance to date-AB fans don't miss this!

I AM LITERALLY NISHABD(Nuff said)

Verma's take on fluctuations of human mind and unspoken relationships should not be missed.

Best film of the year. Cinematic masterpiece
20 May 2007
Best film this year. Indian Cinema at its best.If its said a "lost film by David Lean"-It deserves it. Vidhu Vinod Chopra-Two Thumbs up-This man is our hope.

No words to describe this film. A modern day masterpiece. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's best. Breathtaking performances from Big B, Saif, Boman, Jackie, Sanjay, Vidya etc. Superb music and score and wonderful cinematography and locales not to forget the awe inspiring visual effects. In the years to come will be remembered as a CLASSIC. This is a poem on celluloid. Shakespeare nestling in the sands of Rajathan. This piece of work would have made Shakespeare smile broadly

A must watch for Cinema Lovers. EKlavya-a Royal TREAT!

A hilarious and superb entertainer. AMitabh-Shashi-Best combo duo ever...just a stunning duo!!! no can beat them once they come together on screen!!! Amitabh-Parveen-Whatta couple!!! excellent... A must watch for all Amitabh and Shashi fans. The song Tune Abhi Dekha nahiin... is outstanding!!! The comedy is excellent. Especially the scene when Amitabh is made to eat parottas by all the children and his stomach nearly s. His expression in the scene was just outstanding. And the scene when Parveen faints in Amitabh's room and Shshi blocks his way out of the house. It was hilarious!!! and when Amitabh says "Sangeet Samrat" and starts singing and making a fool of Shashi is the bornfire. just rib-cracking

Shakti (1982)
10/10
Excellent film. Excellent Performances.
30 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Shakti is a wonder of a film. The highlight of the film is the powerhouse performances by both the legends-Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar. Amitabh able displays all emotions with such talents(His character is more or less similar to that of Deewaar) and he gives and equally stunning performance. Dilip Kumar too gives a superb performance that won him the Best Actor award. But well, Amitabh was the more deserving contender for the award because actually he is the one who ends up stealing the show. But, Shakti is somewhat similar to Deewaar. Deewaar is a brilliant classic. Shakti follows suit. See it for the stunning performances and powerful plot.

Silsila (1981)
10/10
Superb-the best of Chopra+Big B after Deewaar
18 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Silsila-one of the most sensitive, humane and intense movies ever made. The film shows how a man's heart can work and how fragile a person's feelings can be...

very beautifully made film-Worth watch Amitabh Bachchan's performance leaves a deep impact on the viewers when he gets angry, when he cheats his wife, when he recites poems, when he loved his babhi, when he enjoys with his bro, when he says "main aur meri tanhaayi....", when he plays safe in front of Sanjeev, When he asks Chandini(Rekha) to leave the place forever on their own, when he speaks to Shobha(Jaya) before leaving, when he last says to Shobha that (in Hindi of course)"the truth is that you are my wife and I am your shusband bakhi sab jhoot hai..."-You cant hate his character in the film. You understand his feeling and love him... Amitabh and Rekha- They just rock...best couple of Bollywood... Sensitive film for sensitive viewers...

Big B's performance deserved the actor awards of the year for sure, but yes yet again-Another dirty rude joke played on him (after Deewaar)

Baabul (2006)

Excellent movie
18 December 2006
Baabul is a excellent movie. Peoeple are being biased and comparing it with Baghban Agreed Baghbanwas a great film but that is a league apart. Baabul is one of the best movies of the year. One of the finest performances of Amitabh Bachchan. He makes u cry many a time and for everyone who like to see with "Less style and more substance" unlike most movies of today, so see Baabul. Amitabh and Rani have done it again after Black. Big B and Hema look stunning together and they have created the Baghban effect (though Hema is relagated to the end of the frame almost all the time. Big B carries the film on his shoulders effortlessly. Very good film-Recommended.

Don (1978)

Amitabh-The 'Don'!!!
10 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
DON IS COOL...DON IS HOT...DON IS SEXY...DON IS THE BAD BOY...DON IS SMART...DON IS HANDSOME...DON IS AMITABH BACHCHAN!!!

Don is surely one of the finest and the best movies made in Indian Cinema... The direction is amazing...the script is amazing...such fine dialogs...(more about that soon)...amazingly thrilling story!!!...and of course...the heart and soul of the film=AMAZING AMITABH 'DON' BACHCHAN!!!

The film is very well made...each and every character is very well etched out and great direction...good job Mr.Barot!!! The story is superb...it takes you through 3hrs of sheer excitement and thrill... and the dialogs....wow...The standout ones are surely those of Don: "Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil nahiin, Namumkin hai" "Don Zakhmi Hai to kya, phir Bi Don Hai" "Tum Jaante ho revolver Kali hai, main jaanta Hon Ki revolver Kali hai lekin Police nahiin jaanti Ki ye revolver Kali hai" "DSP, Mujhe giraftaar hone Ki aadat nahiin hai..." etc etc(there are many so...)---and WHO COULD HAVE DELIVERED SUCH DIALOGUES other that the REAL DON HIMSELF-AMITABH BACHCHAN!?? His stunning deep baritone voice, tall posture and personality, amazing facial expressions truly oozes reality and menace through silence into this character!!! Standing ovations to him!!!

But Vijay too doesn't fail you here...He too has some stunningly simple and lovely dialogs: "In Kali Kali Nanon Se...Tu goo Na humko aye Gore!!!" "Pehle Pan...phir Gan!!!" etc etc(here too..there are many so...) ---Amitabh delivers these dialogs in the exact "Banarasi boy" accent which seems to come so naturally for him...Now we know why he is the A-Z of Cinema...He is the underworld sophisticated Don and the simpleton Vijay...Bravo Bravo BIG B!!! The show completely belongs to Amitabh Bachchan...he is the other name of 'Don' and truly so!!! He definitely deserves the Best Actor award for this film which he did get...!!!! Genius of an actor he is!!!

The music also deserves a special mention here...the songs are a visual and audible treat to all...especially "Khaike Paan Banaraswala" and "Main Hon Don"...In the former...Amitabh jives and jumps amazingly with such simplicity and it is truly a treat to all viewers...and in the Latter...Amitabh proves himself the best looking(:=)) and the ultimate...The song too is another fast number and a visually enjoyable!!!...The other songs too are superb!!!

Zeenat Aman and Pran too shine in the roles of Roma and Jasjit respectively...AND so do all others...But Under the Bachchan thunder, they get overshadowed by the Big B's amazing acting skills, screen presence and manly personality!!! In fact the film is the best entertainer one would ask for...

SHOLAY--DEEWAAR---DON=Three of the best classics ever!!!

The film is completely thrilling and exciting and if you have 3 hrs to spare...the go see Don!!! He will make you happy!!!

Beautiful love story!!! One of the best made!!!
9 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The Plot was really a good one and the movie was well made with Amitabh winning all hearts, as usual. I watched the movie firstly because it stars Mr.Bachchan (who is my favorite actor-I am in love with him!!!). And 'O saathi Re...' is my all time favorite song. My expectations were high from the film and I am happy to say that it has reached that level very convincingly. The story is about an orphan boy (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who is given love and care for a short time by a man and his young daughter. He finds a loving mother in a woman (played by Nirupa Roy-Amitabh's most loved mom on screen). He gets the name Sikander but soon he gets thrown out from the girl's house accused of robbery (which he hadn't committed). His new 'mother' dies leaving her only daughter on Sikander's shoulders. He grows up to a handsome (yeah everyone knows how handsome and cute he is!!!…you go Fido over his Ada…) and responsible man in the same town as his old memsaahab-Kamna (played by raakhee).Sikander is a great characterization who loved his love interest and friend (vishal-vinod khanna) so deeply that he would give his life for its sake... Though it has a tragic end, once you see this film, you can't help falling in love with Amitabh!!!

The cast was...I would say...PERFECT!!!...Amitabh just seemed to go deep into the character and play it with such versatility that you actually tend to cry when u see some scenes… His acting is WONDERFUL...AND MORE…The mixture of motions in that character-happiness, love, care, sacrificing mentality, anger…Only Amitabh could have done it so well and in such a touching manner. Obviously Rekha just makes you go bowled over…U feel "arre yaar…she is too beautiful to live"....The jodi the two (amitabh and rekha) make is just beyond words to describe. Not many will love Rakhee's character, though- Mainly because her character doesn't demand much. Vinod Khanna, incite of having just a side character, did a great job and supported Amitabh well. The film also has Amjed Khan doing the villainous role, who at last…kills Sikander and himself dies. Zohra {Rekha} too suicides (That scene is really touching- when she dies lying in Amitabh's Arms) Amjed Khan too proved that he is the best bad man in town!!! Therefore, it was completely an Amitabh show, ably supported by vinod khanna. It's a typical Hindi film but you will love it for sure. The best parts of the film are: Amitabh-First and foremost-He is just the best! The beautiful music (each and every song is wonderful) and the climax.

IN SHORT...THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE films along with classics like Deewaar, Sholay, Don, Kabhie kabhie, Silsila, Amar Akbar Anthony, Mili, Abhimaan, Zanjeer, Trishul, Kaala Pathar, Anand, Chupke Chupke, The Great Gambler, Namak Haraam, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi and other countless numbers...this is one great film which is a proof for the real capacity and versatility of this great actor-Amitabh Bachchan. From a struggling actor…to an actor…to a star…to the superstar of Indian cinema…To the biggest star in the world…the greatest and best actor ever born in the universe…to the GOD of Indian cinema…this man has done it all!!! No wonder he is the called the "One man Industry". He deserves this and more and more.

Sarkar (2005)
10/10
Amitabh the 'Sarkar' of Bollywood
9 November 2006
First of all..I begin by saying that I AM A HUGE FAN OG "THE GODFATHER"-Novel. But Sarkar is not a complete adaptation of Gofather. Only the basic undercurrent of a mafia Don has been taken from it. I feel Sarkar is a great film. RGV proves himself a wonderful director who is truly different from most of the contemporary directors of today who make films for mass appeal. For a film like 'Sarkar' to get mass success, it should be surprising. But go see the film and you will know why! IT is truly the best film of 2005 with 'Black'.

The sets are wonderful...Dark and intense...and so is the look given to all characters. They were all very apt to the theme. The background score especially 'Govinda' one is truly intense and helps make you spellbound to this film. The editing is cool and thumbs to everyone behind this genius of a film.

The most important thing here is the standout performances! Abhishek Bachchan handles his role very well and we see the rising superstar of tomorrow here. Great job by AB junior. Same goes for Kay Kay...he was superb as the bad son Vishnu. I don't actually agree where some people say he stole away the show...Because...it truly belonged to the Bachchans alone!!! The new meanie in town Rashid rocks!!! Truly what a performance man!!! Standing ovations to him...

But if you are pitched against the actor-Amitabh Bachchan in any film, then he is sure to be too bhaari on you. He just excels like anything in this role. This is surely one of his finest performances and goes on par with that of Black. He truly beats Marlon Brando in the role. He makes you go spellbound with those piercing and intense eyes and stands tall and strong as the best actor ever born in Indian Cinema. He excels as Gofather/Subhash Nagre and you get to feel the pulse of his power!!! Had Black not released the same year, Bachchan needn't have worried...Because he would get all the awards and accolades for this performance in Sarkar. He proves himself the 'SARKAR' of bollywood...still going strong in an unbeaten 64!!! He is the ultimate actor without doubt.

TWO THUMBS UP TO THE BACHCHAN, ALL THE OTHER ACTOR AND RGV for such a great film!!!

Black (2005)
10/10
Black is beautiful!!! Amitabh at his peak best!!!
8 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
10/10 is too less for a film like Black. It cant be described in sheer words... SLB surely proved himself a very capable director...after such a flashy film like Devdas, he surprises with such a mute {yet strongly speaking} film like Black. The sets were apt to the theme and added to the beaut of the film!!! Great editing!!! Great background score-It was so intense and apt to the film!!! Very good script!!! Through those limited talks, a lot was expressed!!! Stading ovation to all those who were a part of this wonderful film!!! Surely one of the BEST and FINEST made in history of Bollywood!!!

But, the main plus point of the film is THE STAND-OUT performances!!!

Rani Mukherjee proves very capable an artist and carries the deaf-blind girl Mischelle in her shoulder's with ease. The scene when she speaks{actually he mother speaks} after graduating really brought tears into my eyes...great acting...she is here to stay!!!

Ayesha Kapoor who plays the young Michelle does such a fabulous Job...no one could have done a better job...She plays the rough and arrogant young girl so well and you grip on to your seats when she gets intense and slaps Amitabh or throws water onto his face!

Shernaz Patel too does a commendable job and makes a great mother! Her love for her daughter is evident in her eyes!

And now...Mr.Amitabh Bachchan...He is surely the man who proved himself too good for the others. The show actually belongs to Big B who truly bowls you over with such a powerhouse performance!!! He plays the eccentric Debraj Sahai to perfection and shows the audience that the Big B era is here to stay well beyond 64. His scenes are perhaps the best in the film. Especially the one when he pleads Shernaz to let him stay and teach Michelle and says how his own mother had always said she was there to protect her daughter but at last send her to asylum. The intensity of his eyes...Only Amitabh could have done it!!! The kiss between Debray and Michelle too is a classic one-The most justified kiss perhaps in history of Bollywood! Touvhing scene. And towards the end when Michelle comes to see Sahai in the hospital and he dances out of joy and happiness....that alone is worth the money you spend for the film!!! Only Amitabh Bachchan could have touched your heart so deeply...especially in those scenes when he begins to show the start of his Alzhimers disease...His performance is truly sensational!!! HATS OFF TO THE GOD OF ACTING!!!

In fact, Black is an actor's film. It deservingly won almost all awards at all awards ceremonies of the year {whichis unprecedented in history of Bollywood} But all other elements too are fabulous!!! Together , they made the most beautiful film=BLACK, which will be remembered as a classic forever!!!

By the way, I forgot to mention: Amitabh deservingly won the National award for his performance in the film...Though he deserved the Oscars!!!

BIG B's Show all the way!!!
8 November 2006
OK...firstly, I don't know how many people will read this...{I hope some do take the pain to go through my dragging review!!}

Now...I don't understand what message Karan Johar{KJ} was intending to show with this film?! Did he want to show that he has matured as a director by trying to tackle such a topic?! Or did he just want to give his favorite SRK as many scenes as possible?!

You are more or less familiar with the story for KANK has been the most anticipated and discussed movie of 2006, thanks to its unprecedentedly huge star cast. So, I am not going into the story here, I have more important things to say!!!

If someone calls KANK a "flawless movie", I would suggest them a good doc. I would call it a "worthless movie". The flaws:

1:Why did Maya{Rani Mukherjee} not like Rishi {Abhi Bachchan}?? 2:Why does Maya listen to Dev's{SRK} advices and does what he says and not those of her own husband who is so loving?! 3:What wrong did Rhea{Preity Z} do that makes Dev hate her?! 4:Why exactly do Maya and Dev remember each other after so many years??? {oh...were they by chance so attractive???! I don't think so....Sagging face of the so called "King Khan" and not up to the mark face of MAya?!} 5:Why so less footage for an actor like Amitabh Bachchan??{More about this later}...And why was Kamaljit{Kiron Kher} there in the film!!?? great talent gone wasted!

Now into the direction: I CAN SUM THAT UP IN JUST ONE WORD AND THAT IS "BAD"...The script has no justification, no innocence and isn't worth even one ovation. KJ needs to take classes from Yash Chopra whom I really admire for oozing such reality and simplicity and innocence into the film "Silsila" which dealt with more or less the same theme(But Silsila had the advantage of such talented actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan,Rekha and Sanjeev Kumar).

Last but far from least, the performances:Lets start from the worst: SRK:He is his usual self...he bores you to death. This is one of his worst performances...man...he doesn't know to act!!! He truly needs to take classes for acting. He is the typical SRK-His expressions in the film-I have seen it in most of his other films...worst actor ever!

Rani:Her performance isn't up to the mark and she has nothing but to cry and be rude to poor Rishi. After a film like 'Black', this is not one would expect from her.

Preity: She didn't have much footage in the story in comparison to the other actors...but she does well in her role.

Kiron Kher: Pure talent truly wasted. Kiron Kher has scenes which can be counted in you fingers. But she and Sam give you good enjoyment though short-lived.

Abhishek: He surprises you. He proves he is a Bachchan-Baduri combination. He completely overshadows the lead actor SRK and makes you feel sympathetic for him...and he looks so cute!!! Thumbs up to him!!!

Amitabh: If you think this man cant surprise at this age of 64, then you are completely wrong!!!The man who truly steals away the show is definitely Amitabh. He proves that he isn't India's {In fact the World's} best actor for nothing. He oozes such comedy into his role and if not for his undiluted Charizma, Sexy Sam would have seems too vulgar. He gives you a comic relief from the dragging drama and whenever he comes on screen, you really feel a sort of excitement and affection for Sam. His vulgar dialogs make you go pale with embarrassment but bring the house down with laughter!!! Only he could have done the role so well...AND only he would have accepted such a role...MAN...HE IS TRULY AN ACTOR+A SUPERSTAR!!! In fact, For me Sam's character was the most positive and original one for he never hides anything from anyone. He whores but in front of his son...Now many may not find that so cool...but I for one did...And his emotional scenes make you relate with the character and shows he is as human as anyone...He excels in both the humorous and sentimental parts of his roles...He makes you cry when he dies and that 4 minute speech after rocking in 'Rock N Roll Soniye' was very effective. The WHO most memorable dialogs of the movie are the above mentioned one and the one between Sam and Maya in the hospital. And to sum it all up AMITABH PROVES THAT HE IS SEXY POS SIXTY!!! He looks and acts too well!!! He is truly the emperor of our Industry!!!

So in fact, you see I wrote the biggest review for the male lead with the smallest footage....because he steals the show...and he ably saves the game....If not for him, you would have cried that you wasted you money and time...So if there is anyone worth in the movie...they are the Bachchans!!! Two thumbs up to both of them!!!

Deewaar (1975)
10/10
Deewar the best. Amitabh the best
24 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Today i saw DEEWAR(1975) for the third time this year(2006).I have seen this movie about ten time or so but this is one film which is a standard one...a film worth wasting 3 hours. Mr.Amitabh Bachchan clearly showed his power in the movie. The ease with which he turned from a coolie to an underworld don...oh my god!Its completely amazing and admirable! He proved that he is better than the best! His performance was breath-taking....spellbinding...amazing...wonderful...outstanding!The world searches for words to describe this man!

Vijay Verma{AB} was a man who loved him mother too deeply...and his love for his mother forced him to do bad deeds. He was the one who suffered the injustice of the society. He skips studies and goes to work in the footpaths as a child to help his mother and make his younger brother study and achieve his goals. He grows into a coolie and his younger brother Ravi Verna ( Shashi Kapoor) grows into a graduated man seeking a job.

At that time, Vijay gets into a fight with some goons of an underworld don seeing the injustice shown to a poor worker by the latter which results in the worker's death. Vijay beats them all and his name spreads among the other workers. He is called by another don-Daawar to help him carry out the smuggling businesses. Vijay, In order to wipe away the tears of his mother and to give her a good life, agrees to the the job. He soon becomes the Saviour of the gang and is the head in a short time. At this time,Ravi becomes a police officer who is very true at his work He soon finds out that his brother made all his wealth through smuggling He and his mother leave the house of vi-jay, breaking the poor man's heart.

The movie also has Parveen Babi, Neetu singh pairing opposite Amitabh and Shashi respectively. The film ends with Vijay being shot dead by his own brother. That Scene is considered the best in the movie-The scene where Vijay dies on the lap of his mother.Mr.Bachchan's acting was fabulous in the movie....the scene is a clear cut example for it. Most of the other scenes too are awesome. Some of the best are : 1:First and formost, the last scene when Amitabh dies in lap of Nirupa Roy{who portrays his mother}...clearly the best scene...Amitabh's acting make you awe him!!! 2:Ravi confronting Vijay and asking him to sign the paper confessing his underworld connections. Great scene and superb dialog!!! 3:Parveen asking Amitabh to do plastic surgery and remove the writing in his hand that his father is a thief. The intensity of AB'S eyes in that scene...worth a standing ovation!!! 4:The scene when Vijay says "I have mansion, money...blah blah...what do you have ?" to Ravi and Ravi answering "I have mother!" and the expression on Amitabh face...superb dialog and so well enacted!!! 5:The scene when Amitabh becomes the head of the gang and he sits in the seat of Daavar and places his legs on the table...the look on his face-Triumph, anguish, win after such suffering!!! The number of good scenes go on and on,....In fact Deewaar is a film which has just too many good points!!!

The film is very well directed and the plot rocks. And the script and dialogs too are wonderful!!! The performances were spellbinding especially the Big B's He portrayed the Vijay so well that, people bow their heads to this great actor who is brimming with talent. Shashi capo ably supported amitabh and he truly deserves the award for the best actor in a supporting role which he got.But the fact remains that he is overshadowed by Amitabh's powerhouse performance. Though Vijay has done many wrongs, you still get to love him. Its all credit to Amitabh for that. In short this film is a legend...a classic...a wonder of a movie! A must watch...with Amitabh at his best!

Deewaar and Sholay which released in the same year are the biggest hits of Amitabh...and deservingly so!!!
