Arabela (1980)
THE TV series for kids, but not only them...
This series, together with the "Expedition Adam '84" ("Die Besucher"/ "Návstevníci"), made by the same crew, are the most entertaining, funny, witty, intelligent, you name it. Unfortunately, I haven't seen since anything that would equal these, not to say top them. Now, that I have access to all kinds of TV stations, all I can see are some absolutely dumb, rubbish (mainly) american series. Stuff that I wouldn't let my kids watch for anything in the world. Maybe there are some worth watching, but I haven't seen or heard of them yet.

THE TV series for kids. And not only kids...

Lost in Space (1998)
One of the (if not the) worse movie ever...
...luckily i didn't pay a penny in order to see it. Awful, awful, awful. Exagerated eye-candy special effects can't save this movie. The director should hide himself in some monastery after making this. If he was next to me after i saw the movie, which gave me a terrible headache from the nerves, I would have strangled the guy. What annoyed me the worse is that it could have been made a good movie from that story. The last third of the movie is absolute rubbish, nothing makes sense anymore, the actors act like they have no idea about the script and there's someone on the set telling them their lines while they're 'acting'. I expected an average SF movie, maybe average-to-nice movie, due to William Hurt and Gary Oldman in the cast. All I've got is probably the worse SF movie yet, even worse than Battlefield Earth (I never thought that to be possible), and one of the worse movies ever seen.
Absolutely, positively NOT recommended. Better take a nap.
Evolution (2001)
Dissapointed...
I saw the Evolution poster in the subway, and had 2 hours to spare today. 'Have a nice end of the world' I didn't have a clue what to expect. A SciFi comedy??? The SciFi idea was interesting. But the 'comedy' side of the movie spoiled it. And the ending was the last nail in the coffin. No character in the movie seemed to take ANYTHING seriously. The one-liners weren't funny enough for my taste or mood. The special effects were nice, but that's where the 'nice' ended for me. "Ghostbusters" was good. "Mars attacks" was funny. But "Evolution" I think it's almost a waste of (one's) time. Even "Ice Pirates", 25-30 years older, was funnyer, with crappy effects and hilarious costumes and robots. If they had made 'Evolution' a thriller/drama/horror, a little a la 'Alien', or 'X-Files - The Movie', it would have come out something better, I bet. As I said, before I saw it, I didn't know what to expect. Now I can say that - if I expected a pure comedy, or a pure SciFi, I would have been even more dissapointed. If there's no other movie around you that might raise your interest, and have absolutely nothing better to do for 2 hours, then I think you might consider watching "Evolution". Rate - 3/5
Starship Troopers (1997)
War is hell
This movie is after all about war. War doesn't mean just firing a gun, it has to deal also with tactics and straeegy. These 2 things this movie lacks. How idiotic a commander has to be to send herds of soldiers against dozens of some lightning fast tank-like 10 ft tall bugs? Sorta dumb soldiers too, as they don't fire their super rifles until the bugs get closer than 100ft. The only things I enjoyed on this movie were the special effects. Period.
Scream (1996)
Yeah whatever
Well I saw 'Scream' 1+2, 'I know what you did last summer', 'I remember what you did last summer' (?). Now I'm waiting for 'I can't forget what you did last summer' and 'Damn I'm good, I still can remember what you did last ummm.. summer or something'. It was like watching the same movie over and over again. In a way I can say I enjoyed these movies. They make me laugh out loud. Watching a bunch of stoopid teenagers going beserk is entertaining. That's the only reason I can find one may want to watch something like 'Scream'. On the other hand after watching the first two 'Screams', I felt like email flooding Wes Craven with the message 'You're an idiot!!!'. Because I truly believe this guy is. The 'Nightmare on Elm Street' series I thought was smth to do with the 80's. I was a pre-teen kid then when I saw them and yes, those movies gave me the gibbies. These days I thought the genre was dead. Alas, it is not. I don't think anyone over 16 that has at least half of a brain could find this movie thrilling/terrifying in any way.
Then again, maybe I'm not a horror movies kinda guy.
