Norbit (2007)
Great Eddy movie! One of his best!
When i read the critics reviews i concluded that there is a big difference in humor between countries. I and my girlfriend and son found this a great humoristic movie, and we watched it several times. I could even be one of Eddys best movies...
I also read that a lot of (black) people found it to be somewhat a racistic movie? It is probably a culture thing, because we couldn't find anything of that source in the whole movie. My girlfriend is black herself, and she didn't feel offended, on the contrary! And most actors are black themselves. And if the critics refere to the streotypes rather than the colour of the skin of the actors; what is wrong with stereotyping in a "Eddy movie"!!! Stereotyping is a tool that most comedians use.
U should critic this movie as a comedy and not as a serious movie because it is a comedy!!!
Age of Heroes (2011)
Great in it's class
I don't understand all those negative comments. It's a simple ww2 movie about a commando team in the making. The actors are acting good, but it never intended to be a deep Shakespeare like prizewinning movie. As war movies go, it's quite entertaining. I wasn't bored. It isn't the best movie i've seen, but it's really worthwhile.
It immediately made me think about all the dirty dozen movies, but those are more "the A-team like", this movie is more serious. I've seen almost all ww2 movies (i collect them) and this isn't one to miss.
Do not take this it to seriously, and you'll love it, if you do, you might get bored, it isn't a typical Hollywood blockbuster....
Banlieue 13 (2004)
fast and easily digestible rollercosterride by the master
"fast and easily digestible rollercosterride by the master" what i mean by this is is that this movie Will meet your expectations(or did you expect a deep going movie of some sort?); it's a fast, ironic, humanistic, action movie with excellent stunts and good music. Who cares about the story, or the characters? That's not what this movie is about or meant to be. Another good Luc Besson movie. But i do understand not everyone will understand or appreciate the "athmosfere" of this movie. It's a french movie, and although i don't like most french movies, i like this gerne. Non European viewers, probably Americans in particular, will not like the look and "feel" of the movie.
The Big Red One (1980)
mixed feelings
Whil judging this film, you can look at it in several ways. At first glance it's original for a movie of this age, from the other hand, its not that old (1980). The tried to make a war movie that was more, or even not, than a action-movie. They succeeded, but did an rather average job. But then again, its already 25 jears old, although they already had some experience with deeper going movies in that day. The problem simply is; back in 1980, i really might have liked this movie, but now in 2005, i think everything looks a bit corny and simple. The effects are average and not al the thins are accurate (for example the "tiger tank" wasn't a ww2 tank, it wasn't even a German tank). Conclusion: it was a good effort, especially for that time, but lacked enough dept and accuracy. All in all still worth watching!
Pearl Harbor (2001)
overdone and too long
I always think you should judge a movie for what is meant to be. This movie might try to be more than it really is. It was a typical Hollywood movie, but in spite of the money and efforts it didn't work out very well. I was bored during the movie, and that's never a good thing... It'll probably be because there was nothing original in this movie, Even a standard story can make an original film, but sadly it wasn't the case. To long, to "over the top" American, to simple storyline, the effects were good; but to much of the same thing for to long, to many stereotypes are used, to many hero's (underdogs).
All in all it wasn't a complete waste of time, but i wouldn't recommend watching it a second time...
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
excellent, but still one remark.
this is a great movie a gave it a nine. everything was right; sound, visuals, characters, story etc. but just one remark, HELLO AMERICA; although your part in ww2 was very big, you were NOT alone, not even on dday. lot's of other countries (canada, england, etc.) also fought hard to libarate europe and the rest of the world!
Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
excellent in HIS class; a lot of "dumb" fun!
first of all i must say that i'm afraid that most people will compare this movie with other movies outside his class. if you compare this with for example saving private rian, than you're crazy... you should always rate a movie within it's own class. this is a comedy, and when you like comedy's, then this is extreamly funny. the movie is fast, short, and a lot of "dumb" FUN!
Manta, Manta (1991)
portrays stereotypes just right
i can really understand that this film isn't rated very high, when you're not from holland or germany you won't understand this movie. it's primarely based on stereotypes / people that live in these countries. if you know people like this you'll see that every stereotype in the movie is portrayed just right! i love this "cult" movie.
The Mummy Returns (2001)
as expected...
the movie was as i'd expected. as usual sequals often depend less on storyline and more on things like action, humor and special effects. not that a storyline is always very important (i think it's often overrated very much), but the mystiqe of the first movie simply wasn't there anymore. the two most irritating things in the movie were probably the "return" of the scorpion king as a scorpion (i'd rather like to see him as a man) and most of all the fact that imhotep's girlfriend abandoned him at the end. but then again, here i'm almost making the same big mistake as most filmcritics do: checking storyline. who cares in a movie like this? o.k. the story isn't all that, and there are quite some mistakes, unlike the first movie, but sowhat? it is a great fun movie to watch and THAT'S what it's all about! period!.
The 6th Day (2000)
expected
this film doesn't need a long commentary, you'll get what you expect: lot's of action and special effects. a lot of fun to watch, a great movie of it's sort.
