The First Step (2020)
Great Work In Quarantine!
I saw this premiere at the Toronto Independent Short Festival in a block with some other films and I still haven't gotten around to writing a review...so here it is!
A pretty good story of a tortured man looking for salvation after realizing that he needs to change something. I think the use of music and lack of dialogue really gives this film a sense of style. We can identify with the moments that passes as this character lives out his life.
I don't want to spoil it but if you get a chance to see this, it's definitely worth it.
Last Call (2019)
Wow, Amazing Synchronicity!
I can't believe how well the director was able to sync the performances by the two lead characters. This certainly is a difficult task that should be celebrated! Great story and great performances by both main actors. Can't wait to see more from the director.
Fugue (2018)
Great Canadian Movie!
I have been watching a lot of Canadian film and television recently due to online film festivals being "the norm" in 2020 and I stumbled upon THE FUGUE.
After some friends had recommended it, I decided to have a watch. A great lean story with wonderful performances from the three leads. I was actually surprised by the ending too! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to be inspired by what kinds of independent films are being made in Canada!
The Corner of Chaos and Serenity (2020)
Enjoying Short!
I have to admit, reviewing this was on my to-do list since I caught it at the Toronto Independent Film Festival's virtual festival screening back in September. I wish I had gotten around to it sooner because this is an enjoyable little piece of art!
A tight piece, beginning, middle, end...this is what most short films strive to do, but few succeed. I was pulled through ups and downs; an emotional rollercoaster ride that culminated to a "grand finale" and I'll just leave it at that. Catch it if you get a chance. It might be still doing the circuit.
