Zanna Bianca e il cacciatore solitario (1975)
Holy Yellow Tail Fat Man!!
Finally, a movie fit for a drunken Yukon tie salesman. Wahooo! The 'inebriated couple wallowing in the hay' scene caused me to sympathy-puke. I then began sobbing as I thought of just how nasty this movie turned out to be. The soundtrack features redundant noises such as the moo of just one cow dubbed and re-dubbed to suggest multiple cows fleeing a burning log cabin. Granted, this sorry flick was produced in 1975 but come on!?? Daniel's 'pusskins' fur-topped boots just don't seem to fit in with the rugged Alaskan (or Canadian) outback, but who's taking note? The close-up on little Johnny's face during an early mindless fight scene was an interesting study of pre-adolescent bicuspids. Mr. Director, why not study a single nostril while you are at it? OMG! The stunt of all movie stunts occurs in this film when David (who is dangling (1) meters above the ground by a damaged hemp rope) tells little Johnny to run and fetch some water to pour over the top rope. He then demands that the runt pack it with snow to quick-freeze the frays thus eliminating the dreaded suggestion of a tragic fall incident. Don't try this at home kiddies! The unintelligible babble between Ferguson and railroad developers doesn't offer a clue during this blizzardous plot. It's too bad Ferguson (who planted a mini-bomb in his model of the mountains next to Grizzly City) didn't blow up the entire cast and production crew.
The Buhdist monk who performed a Catholic wedding in falsetto Greek gibberish marked by a distinct Italian accent was hilarious! He looked sort of like a hooded Cheech from the movie, Up In Smoke. The surreal and wacky music during the fist fight that ensues was apropos for such a sleazy shtick.
Do yourself a favor, rent an old Godzilla movie instead of this horrid excuse of legitimate cinema.
Lost in Space: One of Our Dogs Is Missing (1965)
Reflection on One of Our Dogs is Missing
The monster on this episode reminds me of a werewolf that behaves more like a horned lizard in loose sand, very disturbing. I always wondered what happened to the small dog. He helps out near the end and that's all we see of him. Was Penny Robinson aloud to keep this dog or was it left to starve in a Southern California desert somewhere? He was actually quite cute I thought, very mischievous and he could dig real well. I think he might have had some Corgi in his bloodline.
I know that Dr. Smith had already established himself as a total idiot prior to this episode but somehow I get real angry at him during this show. I guess my frustrations watching him disassemble the the last of the laser weapons leaving the women basically defenseless pushed me over the top. I never understood how forgiving the Robinsons were in the foreground of his dangerously self-serving cowardice, totally ridiculous eccentricities and Pansy behaviors (puke). I think I would have strangled him with a lamp cord for sure. How perfectly and consistently irritating he has become!
Trained in the Ways of Men (2007)
Documentary Focusing on Transgender Panic / Murder
Both sides of a murder are analyzed and contrasted in a case where transgender panic was used as a legal defense strategy. The director illustrates conflicts that exist for all parties. Interviews are included with defense attorneys, advocates and the District Attorney assigned to prosecute the case during both trials.
Filmed on location, footage of many of the actual events is included along with rare clips of Gwen Araujo during her younger years. Through these images, the audience is treated to a glimpse of Gwen's gradual development as she boldly and honestly chooses to face her gender conflict and accepts transsexual status.
Gwen's murder and story have led to the adoption of legislation signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006. The Terminator's controversial "Girlie-Man" comment is also included in the film. The Gwen Araujo Justice For Victims Act (AB 1160) amends jury instructions and prohibits jurors from accepting testimony based on a gay or transpanic defense.
Trained in the Ways of Men challenges viewers to consider how they might react or respond to the knowledge that their g/f or b/f is or was transgender.
The stories and reactions of three Post-op transsexual female women are woven into the movie and foster a better understanding of the real people behind the otherwise mysterious lives of those who change or wish to change their sex.
