Tenchi Muyô! In Love 2: Haruka naru omoi (1999)
Best Tenchi Movie by far
This was by far the most beautiful of the Tenchi movies, but for some reason it got a lot of bad reviews over here. This makes me sad since this movie affected me emotionally more than any other Tenchi episode or movie ever has. I think this has to do with the fact that I'm a Ryoko fan though. If you're more on Ayeka's side and like seeing her a lot, then you'll probably be disappointed by this movie. But, if you're like me, then you will appreciate this movie very much. You get to watch Tenchi as he grows and matures. You see Yosho (always one of my favorite characters) and much more of his backstory. You see the true depths of Ryoko's love for Tenchi. You get to see Mihoshi and Kiyone actually doing more than fighting with each other in the background. And you get to see more of Ryoko's midriff than she usually shows. And of course, there's the ending. Like I said, if you're really rooting for Ayeka here, you may not like it. But for everyone else, it's perfect. Much more based on Tenchi Universe than the other two.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Like a picture book that vomits at you
I have read all the comments on this film. I have heard all my friends talk about it. And the only thing that can come to mind is the book "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. Have any of you read it? There's a part in the book where a young playwright writes this terrible play. But a columnist for a prestigious newspaper tells him to go for it. So he does. The columnist writes great reviews for it, everyone else writes good reviews for it, soon everyone thinks it's a wonderful play. But it's not. It's crap. I was told over and over that Moulin Rouge was unlike anything I'd ever seen. This is true. I enjoyed it for about five minutes. I thought "Oh, how funny. They're making fun of The Sound of Music." I thought "Well that's sort of clever. They're singing a Nirvana song". About the 10th time, it got old. Very old. But there's still a story to pay attention to, right? Something I can focus on to forget the music? No. There isn't. Nothing is original in this film. The comedy is faintly reminiscent of Jar-Jar Binks. The music reminded me of a karaoke bar, and the story was stolen from Melrose Place. The visuals were the only redeeming factor. And I can't say they were very redeeming. I found myself falling asleep toward the end. Basically, go see this movie if you like bright shiny things and songs you've heard a million times before. If you don't feel like leaving the room, just turn on MTV and watch the music video for it. It's basically the same experience. You're not missing much.
