Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Great family fun
This was a surprisingly entertaining movie! The rookie all star cast will no doubt impress the younger audience both male (Duff) and female (Kutchner), while Martin and Hunt will treat the adults to the highest energy entertainment. Of course, you must treat this movie as a pure comedy and one must resist the urge to over analyze the script or any other artistic criteria.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Wonderful flick!
This is the kind of movie you want to see when you go out on the weekend.
This is a movie for all ages (some subtle mature themes). It's filled with ethnic jokes (Greek) everyone can relate to. A must see.
The Sum of All Fears (2002)
Critics are wrong!
I saw this movie because of the rave reviews it received from the "critics". For a movie based on a book, the script was a joke. Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan is soooooooo not believable. The action IS good but not anywhere close to advertised. Morgan Freeman and L Schriber (sp?) stole the show, by virtue of their characters. The cinematography was very contrived.... Excessive camera movement and untimely close ups provided no contextual/artistic purpose. I guess it was intended to distract viewers from the butchered script/storyline.
If you are a Clancy/Affleck fan, you may actually enjoy this flick.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
I just dunno!
I grew up watching the Star Wars trilogy. I liked them then, as a kid. Nowadays, I fail to see the attraction of the prequels. There's hardly any mystery. Lucas (the uncontested pioneer of the special effects industry) fails to impress with his current batch of effects. They are good but in a film industry that has given us Matrix, it's hard to get ooohhh and aaahhh ed by some (now) very basic special graphics. And unfortunately, that's 90% of Attack of the Clones. Regardless, the under 30 generation will make Episode II a box office success, despite the movie's shortcomings.
Insomnia (2002)
Tantalizing!
I don't particularly care for Pacino. I have always thought of him as a one dimensional actor (same facial expressions, same voice intonation, mannerisms, etc).
Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised with his performance in Insomnia. The movie will most certainly keep you awake, due in part to Pacino himself. His character (Will Dormer)played to his strengths. The "Twin Peaks" meets "just-about-any-other-thriller story line", allows Pacino to personify the essence of what Insomnia is all about. Swank and Williams complement Pacino both literally and figuratively.
I have not seen the original Swedish production but Nolan wasted no time in giving his "Insomnia" a distinct touch, very early on.
Insomnia will not set the Box Office on fire but will impress thrill seekers and all Pacino fans.
Unfaithful (2002)
Diane Lane breakthrough!
Let me start by saying that I am (and have been for a while), a BIG Diane Lane fan. I've always admired her natural beauty Unfaithful is the first movie that allowed her to truly display her acting competence. She's been primarily playing second fiddle to Snipes, Sobieske - hmmmm -, Reeves. Fortunately, Lyne entrusted Lane with the lead role and she did not dissapoint. This movie does lack an "Oscar-bound" script. Heck, 99% of the movies do. That however, does not translate into a bad storyline. The flow of the movie is wonderful and very provocative. Gere and Lane are great as husband and wife, Martinez on the other hand, will thrill women viewers (maybe even men...) with his sexy french accent and rugged looks. Make no mistake though! This is the Diane Lane show. She will take you along for a rollercoaster ride you won't soon forget.
Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001)
Typical Mick Dundee humor with a parental touch.
This was just as entertaining as the previous two. There are some unexpected but funny cameo appearances. The plot is light but enjoyable. It's not like the first two Dundees were Oscar nominated flicks. Worth the matinee admission price.
Just Visiting (2001)
Kids will love it
This was a very entertaining movie. The plot was light but amusing.
I can't get over the "reviewers" who expect every movie to live up to some sort of an Oscar reputation/standard How many "Traffic" or "Hannibal" can one digest??? Or the constant bashing on actors' performance, editing, lighting, etc. etc. If you had to choose between "Spy Kids", "Josie and the Pussycats" or "Just Visiting", pick the latter.
