Space Force (2020)
Sometimes funny, sometimes ...
Ok, it's funny, sometimes. Not always. The overacting flaws in its purpose. Not really satire. It misses some wit for this to be. Some jokes are cringingly (not) funny. WIth satire vices, follies, abuses and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, often with the intent of shaming or exposing the perceived flaws of individuals, corporations, government, or society itself. It's not much like that. It's a good attempt to be satirical, but not totally successful in its undertaking. That's a pity. Really, it's a pity ...
The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019)
Nice, refreshing, and funny too. One of the best adaptations of the book.
I find it a nice, refreshing adaptation of the book. Nice twists, good story. In my honest opinion, I'm afraid a lot of negative reviews have only to do with a masked negative feeling of the main actor not being white. Because I really do not understand the negative reviews. Really not ...
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Moving and (happily) without the evil alien or malevolent extraterrestrial organism
For me personally 'Tne Midnight Sky' is a very impressive and moving experience. Yeah, slow, but that's part of it. Why not? I got the impression that some ratings are low because it has not much action or hysteria. There is action enough, though it is brought to the merit of the story, on a balanced way. Because it's another story than one with an evil alien or a malevolent extraterrestrial organism. Happily.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Very good version, much better than the one from 1951
At last a excitingly good version of this story. Much better than the movie from 1951 which is quite daft and from to time boring, and morally quite silly.
American Gods (2017)
American Mythology (or Fantasy)
Personal view, I admit, but this is boring. Again that awkward, ridiculous view on mythology. I do not like it. I worked myself --yes, I did not enjoy it-- through the first season in the hope that it would evolve in an interesting way. But no... So, I will not view the next season, if ever there will be one.
My god --hey, a god-- what do I miss Carnivale. This series should have got more seasons. It was also awkward, but in a intriguing way. American Gods is a weak, cringingly version of it.
Khumba (2013)
Good movie
Perhaps not 10, but yet more than 7. Somebody else here wanted to rate it 10, but gave it a 7 because at the beginning of the movie the word "ass" was used in front of his younger children. My god, really? Yes, it not nice when you would have a movie with people cursing from the beginning to the end. No for children. But this? Really?
If my children, when they were wrong, heard such a word, I explained it to them. Letting them have their own conclusions, finally. But, by the way, ass is a part of the body. They should learn where that belongs, isn't it?
When there is shooting and killing, or raping, or abusing people, physically or mentally, wouldn't that be MORE a movie to disapprove for children to watch?
Midnight in Paris (2011)
Actually, Paris is the most beautiful when it rains
I was hesitant to see the movie first. I must admit that I underestimated the acting qualities of Owen Wilson. He should be given more opportunities to act in good movies. It's was an attractive movie, in the real sense of attracting. I didn't stop watching it until the end. I even listened to the music at the very end when the film credits where running over the screen. Something I seldom do.
To paraphrase the movie: I saw a photo. I saw a film. I saw a rhinoceros. The past is not dead. It's not even past, you know. Actually, Paris is the most beautiful when it rains. It was like a dream. I was dreaming. Even educated flees do it. You should dream too. Go see the movie! There is really nothing more to say.
