Red Rose (2022)
Good English drama
At first I thought it was going to be pure teenie stuff, but was pleasantly surprised at the creepiness. That is actually my favourite type of "horror" - not the slashing, torturing type. The CREEPY kind that makes you nervous. I am aware I have to write 600 words in order for my lame little review to be posted, so please forgive my rambling. I am not going to give any spoilers. The young woman who plays Rochelle looked so like an actor who used to be on Coronation Street, so I looked the series up here on IMBD. Anyways, turns out they are not related but was shocked to see that Amelia Clarkson, who plays the teenager Wren Davis was born in 1977. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that makes her 46 years old!! You always assume actors play characters a bit younger than them, but WOW. 46 and playing teens - I need her face cream.
The Last Witch (2013)
Not a movie, not a TV show....just a 43 minute tease!
I recently discovered this "movie" on PrimeTV and saved it to watch around Halloween. I am glad I didn't wait and decided to watch it earlier. Really, I couldn't wait as I really enjoy Katherine Kelly and Anne Reid's work. Both these women are very talented actors. This story would have/could have been SO good but someone decided not to finish it. BBC just let it die! It ended just as it was getting interesting. What a huge disappointment. Apparently I have to find more words to finish and submit this review but there is not a lot to say about something so short. So I will end by saying BOO to BBC!
Missing 411 (2016)
Adults are always present!
Most of these disappearances happen when adult(s) are supposed to be watching/supervising. In my opinion, this in itself explains the missing kids. Walking down a trail, it would take 10 seconds to grab a child trailing behind a group and subdue them. I do not believe animals OR aliens can take a child when there are several adults there who are actually PAYING ATTENTION to the child. In one case, the father of a child allowed other adults to take him on a hike and he stayed back and watched TV. People will invent conspiracies and paranormal events when they know they were either negligent or responsible for the child going missing. I've watched this show 2 or 3 times and each time it becomes clearer to me that it is one of the adults who is responsible.
Dracula (1979)
Still the best Dracula movie
Saw this in the theatre way back in 1979 or 1980. Absolutely loved it and got it first on VHS, then DVD and have watched it countless times. Everyone who watches with me agrees it is the best version they've seen, well casted, classy but still creepy!
Midnight in the Switchgrass (2021)
Quite mediocre film
I started watching this one and Bruce Willis made me stop. I'm surprised they got him on film, thought he just phoned in his lines.
One thing I noticed was this building where Emile Hirsch works had FDLE over the entrance (stands for Florida Dept. Of Law Enforcement). Then in his office, he's wearing a shirt with LEDF and a sign on the wall says Law Enforcement Department of Florida. Then his boss has a patch on his sleeve that says City Police. Weird? I'd assume FDLE/LEDF would be a state organization and City Police would be just that! Oh, and Megan Fox isn't as bad as I thought she would be.
World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji (2020)
Go Canada---we're rooting even though we can't see you!
Like many other reviewers of this show, completely disgusted at the coverage of all the last place and "struggling" teams. They cover the first place team and their arch rivals, but completely ignore the Canadian team who is at the top almost the whole time.
Reckoning (2019)
Police procedures were a joke
In particular, the scene where they are digging up the old man's patio. It's pouring rain, they are digging without a cover over the site, rain's washing away tons of evidence. They are handling the remains with bare hands for chrissakes. When they are searching the riverbank for nurse Valerie, cop #1 is searching on the riverbank while cop #2 directly above him is shining his flashlight DOWN on the bank where cop #1 is already searching. I could go on and on.
The Poison Tree (2012)
Loved the two episodes I saw!
Acorn TV had only 2 episodes and it did not seem like the story was finished. I've heard of 'mini-series' but this is extremely mini! Matthew Goode was excellent from what I saw in 2 shows. Disappointed there wasn't more.
London Kills (2019)
Missed the plot because of Sharon Small's awful hairdo
I watched 4 episodes and Sgt. Cole is almost an exact duplicate of Sharon Small's character Sgt. Havers in the Inspector Lynley mysteries. Anti-social, aggressive, annoying, blah blah. Just a lot older looking with the worst hairdo on earth. Well, maybe an orange president has a worse one.
Notes from the Field (2018)
If you want respect, show respect
I was disturbed by the use of the term "paddy wagon" throughout the film, particularly in the recounting of Freddie Gray's ordeal. This term is very derogatory to people of Irish descent and should not be used EVER. I think the actor thought it meant the police vehicle was "padded." A very ignorant assumption. Do your homework and show some respect for other cultures!
