It Follows (2014)

Whence cometh thou most beguiled enemy?
3 April 2020
What a clever and engrossing film that caught the current hysteria and zeitgeist of our disease filled phobia before it happened. The monster lurks and appears only to those who have the cursed disease. No matter it's shape or appearance, you will be wise to sequester yourself from all human contact - including sex. Casualties are inevitable and necessary to flatten the curve and rid our communities of the vile hidden evil. It Follows is haunting and the actors sell out to make you look over your own shoulder at every turn. It's a shocking and original take on the age old conundrum - be silent and await thy fate, or run like hell. The fun is in the chase, not the result. This film is exquisite because it takes itself seriously and not afraid of awakening demons from within your bones. Primeval in shocking the audience with manifestations of death, you cannot help but feel like IT is truly behind you and will not stop until you succumb to its passions.

Hypnotic and Surreal

Exceptional story, writing and direction create a haunting and mesmerizing flick about a time in history we rather not talk about anymore. This ain't The Crucible my dear readers. This is a fantastic foray into a language and culture that was fiercely religious and completely afraid of their Creator. In this scary time of pandemic all over the world we would do well to take some extra time to pray to God and meditate on his power to keep us away from evil lurking in human beings - not to mention animals. This family pf puritans sacrificed living in a community no longer tied to a a heavenly reckoning in order to live a solitary life of confinement. Idleness and hunger breeds jealousy and hallucinations that are a pestilence to their heart and very souls. Believe me, a more relevant and disquieting film ye shallt not see with thine eyes forevermore.

Rescue me even if I am a disaster

Thoroughly believable and sentimental, this is a powerful film about self image, worthiness and the capacity to love someone without questions and without sex between two friends. I can't say enough about the lead actress, Dawn O. She is fierce and vulnerable at the same time, rising to the challenge of every mood and thought of a deserted individual who has lost her identity. Thankfully and cathartically, we live out Anna's moments of reckless and self destructive behavior with a sense of shame and pity as a caring man steps into her life. It's not a moment too soon as Anna has given up on herself but her friend does not. The final few minutes made me literally cry with equal amounts of relief and hopefulness. Well done.

Rear End

Absolute rubbish. Con job of the highest order. One of the most ridiculous, idiotic and pointless endings in history of movies. Everything and every moment invested in watching this hack came to a dead splat. I just wish Jim and Alfred had done us the favor of starting the movie I reverse order; that way, I would not have the rug pulled out from under me after two hours of trying to figure out such a hackneyed plot. Sorry, in this review of Rearview, I'm in the 1% and I'm happy to stay there.

Don't mess with Sadie. You will regret it.

Are you kidding me!?! Olivia Wilde is on another planet with her acting on this engaging and engrossing film. Actually, it's not even acting. It's a complete and utter transformation into this protagonist. I just have a hard time explaining how Olivia did this. I thought for sure this has to be a personal connection to this character from her own life. To dig so deep into fragility on the inside and hard boiled vengeance on the outside is fascinating. She goes thru hell time and again during the movie and we are there with her every step of the way. Her mission is our mission. Her pain is our pain. Her sadness is our sadness. I have never seen anything like it. I probably never will. See this one.

Embrace of the Serpent... Part II
25 February 2020
Here is a film that blew away any expectations I had going on. It's best you see it without seeing any trailer or synopsis or review. I was captivated from frame one. An absolute stunner, gripping you at every turn. It's perfectly cast. Superb acting and assured directing by two young newbies to major motion pictures. How their vision was assembled and executed is unheard of for two non-related directors. I just love this film plain and simple. I embraced the serpents challenge and craved more.
