Rules of the Game (2022)
Oh dear...
Having only watched the first episode perhaps I'm being a bit harsh but this drama appears to be full of unbelievable characters, poorly written dialogue and a story which is total nonsense.
How does the BBC end up commissioning this sort of rubbish?!
The Pact (2021)
Woeful
How the actors managed half decent performances with such a ridiculous plot is why it deserves 1 star. It starts of poorly and only gets worse with a finale that was as predictable as it was unbelievable.
Inside No. 9: Once Removed (2018)
Great story cleverly told but is there a mistake?
In the opening scene the house where the drama unfolds is shown as #9 but in fact it's #6 (the sign has been turned upside down) although we don't know that until later. Later we find out that May changed the house number from #6 to #9 (30 minutes earlier) in order to send the contract killer to Natasha's house instead of her own.
However, doesn't the fact that the house number is never changed back to #6 cause storyline problems?
1) the estate agent - he would go to the wrong house. This could be explained by saying he knows the house so wouldn't look at the number.
2) the removal man, Spike - he doesn't know the house so would be looking for #6, he wouldn't go to #9. This isn't so easily explained.
Why didn't May change it back to #6 when she returned anyway? She had the screwdriver and it would cover up what she had done were the police to arrive.
The Valhalla Murders (2019)
Bizarre mix of incompetent detectives and ridiculously obvious storyline
Who on earth read the script and thought it was worth spending any money commissioning this rubbish? With clichéd characters & family situations, numerous holes in the storyline as well as clowns dressed up as detectives, it's really difficult to take this series seriously. The scenery is good but not good enough to get past episode 3.
Try Hinterland, it's far better than this.
Staged (2020)
Great actors, good concept but just not funny
There are hints in the script that this could have been a great comedy, somewhat along the lines of Extras, however, that potential just isn't fulfilled. Despite a first episode that appears to be setting up lots of interesting avenues for exploration during the rest of the series nothing actually materializes.
You know the script is weak when even Tennant and Sheen can't save it. Disappointing.
The Dig (2021)
Disappointingly Dull
This should have been a fascinating story about how the Sutton Hoo treasures were uncovered and the politics in society and the museum world at the time. Instead we got a film that started off brightly but quickly drifted off into a number of subplots that didn't go anywhere and don't add anything to the story before petering out. Weird.
Traces (2019)
How did this drama get made let alone broadcast?!
This drama has it all; poor story, ridiculous script, scenes that didn't make sense, amateurish direction, badly cast lead.
It's only redeeming feature is that it made me laugh albeit at it rather than with it.
Makes 'Death in Paradise' seem sophisticated.
The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies (2014)
Fascinating story brilliantly told
We know the press can't be trusted but the astounding incompetence of the police is astonishing.
Don't miss it.
Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators (2018)
How do the actors keep a straight face?!
The script is unbelievably clichéd, well done to the actors for taking it seriously. After watching 1 episode you've seen everything it has to offer.
If you decide to watch more episodes, mute the sound, enjoy the scenery and make up your own story. I guarantee it'll be better than the one on screen!
