The Pacific (2010)
One Word: Crappy
Can you say crappy? Then you have defined this series. From the weird and lame opening credits to the end. The series is so haphazard that it's hard to even understand who the protagonists are. There is little character development. There is no real emotional connection with any of the characters. In fact, there was more emotion in the Japanese characters then the American ones. It was fake and a farce. I can't take this seriously. Band of Brothers was better than this. This series will attempt to tug at taking away what honor you felt for those who fought in the Pacific. You have to remind yourself to not associate this piece of crap writing/directing with the real heroes. And that's not even the worst part. Each episode is bombarded with hardcore profanity and there are graphic sexual situations/nudity displayed. Any real dialogue is shoved into a span of a couple minutes before you have to wait another ten or twenty to get to the rest. Talk about unnecessary. If the makers of the show wanted to take something that could have been good and completely ruin it then they have succeeded. Waste of time and money...avoid.
Undercover Boss (2010)
Pretty good, but repetitive pattern
I do think this show is very good. But, I'm starting to see a pattern here in each episode that someone else pointed out: "So these guys visit the people in the ranks. They see one that's really good on his job, and they promote him. They see another who works long hours while raising a kid as a single parent, and they give her a raise. They get inadequate training from some supervisor, and then because they've been poorly trained, they under-perform, and then they get fired or close to it. They see someone who mistreats employees or customers and they put a stop to the abuse. They see another who devotes time to some charitable cause after hours and they give her charity $5,000. They see a young person with promise, and they give him a scholarship so he can finish college." It makes me wonder if any of this is played out?
Jane Eyre (2006)
Sorry To Say, A Poor Adaptation
I am sorry to say that, in my opinion, this must be a very poor adaption of the Jane Eyre story. I have never read the novel, so it doesn't have anything to do with the movie vs. the novel. I have recently watched the 1940's film version of the novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So, going into this Masterpiece Theatre adaptation I already knew the story and so I had something to compare it to. As the movie played on I noticed that it was quickly rigged with vulgar language and foolish scenes (some of which I found out to be completely, newly made-up for this production). Then, towards the end of the film, and to my surprise, there was a very brief yet extremely vulgar sex scene. That was it for me and I refused to watch the rest of the film. I also had to watch much of the film muted because of the bad language (almost exclusively Mr. Rochester). I had a recent experience with another Masterpiece Theatre film, so I'm probably going to steer clear from those productions from now on and I would suggest others to be careful. My advice is to skip this adaptation.
Brief History of Disbelief (2004)
Where is the evidence?
Truth is absolute. It is not based on what someone thinks or feels about something which is what these people are doing. They do not have any facts that can validate their personal atheistic beliefs. They are simply choosing to not believe there is a God, or Creator as you could call Him, despite the infinite amount of evidence that proves there is a Creator. Whatever claims these people have in an attempt to validate their atheism is completely invalidated when compared to the truth of everything. I have listened to both view points and have seen the evidence that there is a creator and the so-called evidence that there is not a creator. If anything, science (which word means knowledge) can only prove there has to be a creator of mankind. If one were a true scientist, one that studies facts honestly and purely, then they would have to come to the point that there is too much evidence to prove there is a creator. That is why I believe that these people are not true scientists because they believe whatever they want to believe rather than believing the truth. At some point they made a decision to not let themselves accept the evidence for what it really is and instead just keep lying to themselves. Apart from my own personal experiences with God, I have seen plenty of scientific resources that can easily invalidate any of these claims that attempt to validate atheism in any way. One of these resources, for example, is a film called The Case For A Creator by Lee Strobel. He is a former atheist that came to a believe in God after honestly studying the scientific evidence for the existence of a creator. I myself am a former agnostic that eventually came to a belief in God and later I became a Christian. But, my point in writing this is that I want people to know that there is substantial evidence for a creator and if you take the time to look at the evidence, if you are looking for some scientific evidence that is, then there are resources out there. You must remember that just because someone claims something and just because they say they have some evidence and they try to explain it, that does not mean that they are correct. Anyone can come up with evidence to justify their claims, but it does not mean that their evidence is actually really evidence when you actually look at it truthfully without an agenda.
The fool says in his heart there is no God. (Psalm 14.1) There is a way which seems right to a man, but eventually it ends in death. (Proverbs 14.12) Have you met a person who thinks he is wise? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (Proverbs 26.12)
A Grandpa for Christmas (2007)
Some good moments, but...
Introduction: I recently watched this film on the Hallmark Channel. I like a lot of the film, but I eventually stopped watching it after the film became too unpleasant for me to watch due to the numerous counts of obscenities.
The Story: An elderly man, a former Hollywood minor actor, ends up getting temporal custody of his granddaughter after his estranged daughter gets into a major accident whilst traveling for work and is now in the hospital. The granddad and granddaughter have a rocky relationship at first, but they grow closer and become fond of each other as time goes on. Their relationship is helped by their love for song and dance. ***(SPOILER ALERT)*** The reason why the relationship is so rocky is because the daughter has grown up hearing stories of how rotten her granddad is from her mother and grandmother. The grandmother was young when she married the granddad, but she left the granddad for another man in order to have a better opportunity in hitting the big time. That man ended up kicking the grandmother and her daughter out. The grandmother tried to go back to the granddad, but he wouldn't have it after what happened. The grandmother was so angry that she held a grudge against the granddad for the rest of her life. Her daughter grew up with the result and so did her daughter - the granddaughter. The granddaughter and daughter slowly come to find out the truth of the matter, however.
Conclusion: There are some good moments in the film. I like the acting done by the cast and I like the song and dance moments in the film. I particularly like the growing relationship between the granddad and granddaughter, and the reuniting of the daughter with her dad. However, I didn't watch the end of the film because there are numerous - and completely unnecessary - uses of bad language. During one particular scene there was a string of them, and I decided that was it and deleted the film from my DVD-R. Another thing that I don't care for is the way the granddaughter acts disrespectful sometimes. It's understandable given the way she's grown up and the disappointments she's had with her mother, but it's still not good and it's not an excuse to behave that way. The granddad nor anyone else seems to correct her on it. So, all in all, I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone primarily because of the bad language. But, because there are a lot of good moments in the film, I gave it a higher rating than I normally would have.
The Christmas Card (2006)
Started out decent, but...
I watched this film on the Hallmark Channel recently. In my opinion, the film started out decent enough, but eventually got sour.
The Story: A U.S. soldier in Afghanistan receives one of the Christmas cards that a woman back in the U.S. has sent out to troops for Christmas. He becomes so inspired by the Christmas card that he feels it has given him a ray of hope and happiness in his life, a motivation to continue on. When he is given leave, he goes to the very town that the woman lives in. He comes across and spunky young woman and eventually finds out that she is the one that sent the Christmas card. He meets the family and after saving her dad (a Vietnam War Veteran) from getting hit by a car whilst crossing the street, the family decides to take him in for a while. We learn that he doesn't have a family back home. The soldier agrees to help out the family during the Christmas season by working with them at their logging company. The family comes to love him and vice-versa. The soldier also becomes in love with the family's daughter - the woman that sent the Christmas card. There's only one problem. She already has a serious relationship with a man that she's in love with. It's also a long distance relationship. The boyfriend is very different from the soldier. He prefers wine and trips to France over hard labor and the great outdoors. The woman prefers the latter. Throughout the rest of the film, there is a "love triangle" as the woman's boyfriend is back in town visiting her for the season. Everyone in the family seems to want the daughter to be with the soldier and the mom basically wants what's best for her daughter. **(SPOILER ALERT)** The woman comes to like the soldier more and more, as they have a lot in common. They happen to spend a lot of time together. She gradually becomes attracted to his persona. Then one day he kisses her and and she kisses him back. Now she's so confused! She's in love with her boyfriend and wants to marry him someday, but she's become so fond of the soldier. Soon enough, the boyfriend (who doesn't know about the kiss, but is very protective of the woman and thinks the soldier has been trying to move in on her) decides to propose to the woman and she accepts. His plans for their marriage, however, are not plans that she wants. She wants to be at home, have kids and be close to her family. He wants to travel the world, go to exotic places and if they have kids he wants to take them along. This doesn't sound too thrilling for the woman. However, the soldier feels bad about what he's done and doesn't want to make things worse. So, he decides to leave town, despite the dad's urging him to stay and be with his daughter. It all comes to a head when, at the Christmas Eve service with Church, we find out that the soldier hasn't left yet. The boyfriend and the woman speak to each other outside and he, broken-hearted, basically decides to let her go and breaks up with her. The film ends with the woman and the soldier getting together.
Things I like: I like the soldier throughout much of the film. He's basically nice and polite, with a strong sense of doing good for others; there are moments in which the family is going with Church and participating in charitable causes; the family hold hands and pray during an evening meal at the table; the dad and mom have a long-lasting and evidently healthy marriage; the soldier tries to do the right thing in a situation after he did something very wrong
Things I don't like: There is a very typical "love triangle" story in this film; the soldier turns sour as he slowly and subtly moves in on the woman and then eventually kisses her when she already has a boyfriend; most of the family practically applauds this behavior - the family goes with Church and participates in services, yet this is how they act; there is some bad language
Conclusion: I became disappointed as the film ran on, and it got worse and worse. I ended up fast forwarding the very end of the film because I had enough. So, the film started out decent with some few gem moments, but ended up ruining itself. Therefore, I don't recommend this film to anyone.
Time Changer (2002)
Great Film For Everyone!
This is one of the best films I've ever seen. I was very interested in seeing how the film would play out seeing a strong, 1800's era Christian placed in a modern setting. Wow - the differences! It's greatly sad how society keeps getting worse and worse in so many ways. I'm touched by this film and so is my family (my Dad got tears in his eyes after watching the lead character's sermon). Well done. Keep up the good work.
By the way, with all respect, the only reason why someone wouldn't like the values and lesson of this film is if they are in the dark and blind to the Truth. It's very typical to get a bad reaction from non-believers and not surprising. I get upset when people say all these negative and rude comments towards Christianity and such films as "Time Changer," but I forgive them and love them. They are only offended and negative towards them because they simply don't understand. I know because that's how it is and I've been there.
Bibleman (1995)
One Of The Best Shows On TV
I came across this program several months ago and I eventually came to the conclusion that it's one of the best shows on TV, but not just for kids. There's comedy, moral lessons and Bible quotes. I like that they pray in the show sometimes too. I do, however, think they go a little too far with some of the jokes sometimes to the point where it can come off as slander or name-calling. They sometimes use words such as "luck" and "Gosh." Also, I don't think it's necessary to use physical fighting when Bibleman fights off the demons, which is what happens, because that's not how humans fight off demons. But, I think they are trying to make the point that he's battling the bad guys. Despite those few problems that I have with the show, I think it's still pretty decent. It airs Saturdays on TBN.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the Gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak." (Ephesians 6:10-20)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
What The Hell?
I can't believe this movie has gotten a 7.0 rating on IMDB. I've seen this movie twice and I was disappointed. Not only is it the worst Kevin Smith movie I have ever seen (and I've seen almost all of them), it's just not a very good movie at all. It's alright for some laughs, but that's about it. I gave this movie a 3.0 rating. I thought it had a lot of potential too.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Worse Than I Expected
I started to watch "The Matrix Reloaded" hoping that it would turn out as well as the first one or perhaps even better. I have to say, I was disappointed in the film. I thought some stuff was a bit phony and all of the scenes that take place out of the Matrix and in their home city of Xyon, or whatever, is just incredibly boring for me. Actually, it kind of reminded me of "Star Trek" or "Star Wars." Anyway, it just seemed to drag on and I didn't think it was that necessary. The whole Neo and Trinity thing can get pretty annoying and boring as well. I guess the fighting scenes were pretty cool, but then again, there were some scenes that Neo fought in and I would just think to myself "Why doesn't he just use his new flying ability that he's obtained and get out of there instead of going through all of this fighting?" It didn't make much sense. Overall, I think this is an okay film, but I was let down. I expected better.
