Catherine Called Birdy (2022)
Deligtful
Based on the YA novel, Catherine, Called Birdy, Bella Ramsey brings Birdy to life in this medieval comedy.
Bella is an up and coming young actress, and hopefully she will not be spoiled by being cast in roles that don't do her justice. Her face is so expressive that every feeling is read there.
The whole cast is wonderful, especially Andrew Scott as the put upon, perplexed, father who loves his daughter, but is desperate for money.
Modern day sensibilities are touched upon, but they don't really change the reality of life in the 13th century. The burden of childbirth, the infant mortality rate, the women trapped in roles they can't escape from, all are here. Birdy has to deal with all these things, especially being married off against her will. She rebels against all of it, is even punished for her rebellion, but in the end she gains some maturity and acceptance of her role in life.
Our Great National Parks (2022)
Beautiful
Brilliant photography of rare species...things I've never seen or heard of before. The importance of the natural wonders and ecosystems of the different national parks is stressed, but not in an your face way. That narration is soothing, unhurried, and I must confess I've always enjoyed Mr. Obama's voice. Our whole family enjoyed this series.
Another Life (2019)
Omg!
What a waste of Katee Sachoff's talent. This is sooo bad. I give it two stars just for Katee who did her best with an improbable, nay, impossible script, and for the child actress who also did a decent job. As for the rest? The most juvenile, horrible, self serving, immature, crew that you could ever imagine. These people are the best astronauts they could find for this most important mission that could save Earth? Kiss Earth goodbye, people. Ain't gonna happen with this crew.
I watched two full episodes, skipped around to the rest hoping for the best. The AI William caught my interest at first, but that soon became ridiculous too. Who wrote this garbage for Netflix.? Fire their asses!
Sad, just plain sad. And I had such high hopes for this new Science Fiction series.
